Assessment task 1 – Write a report on Industry Your objective Research information about the career pathways, functions and layout of a specific industry, e.g. emergency services, welfare services, hospitality, tourism, retail, engineering, building and construction, medical, IT; OR workplace, e.g. a restaurant, a hospital, a clothing store and write a report of your findings. Choose an industry or workplace that interests you, and/ or relates to the industry or career you intend to work in.

Setting out your report 1. TITLE (first page) This will include the title of the report, what the report is based on (workplace or industry and the type of workplace or industry, e.g. bar/hospitality) the name of the workplace or industry), who has written the report (your name), the date it was written/submitted, your student number and the unit code – WRS031. 2. CONTENTS (new page) As in a book, this lists the headings in the report, together with the page numbers showing where the particular section can be located. 3. SUMMARY (new page) The summary is a carefully written and concise overview of the message in the report. It gives your audience (the reader) a clear indication of what the report is about. 4. FINDINGS/ANALYSIS (new page, at least 500-800 words, 1 or 2 pages, in this section alone) This is the main body of your report. After you have researched your chosen industry, analyse the information you have gathered and state your findings in this section, include the following: 1. Identify the purpose of the industry and describe its products and/or services. 2. Identify the internal and external customers of the industry. 3. If you chose a workplace (not an industry) describe the reasons for the workplace layout and suggest changes where appropriate. 4. If you chose an industry (not a workplace) select one workplace within that industry (e.g. cocktail bar within hospitality industry) and describe the reasons for the workplace layout and suggest changes where appropriate. 5. Outline the processes the industry or workplace uses in developing products or services. 6. Describe the career pathways in the workplace or industry.

5. CONCLUSIONS (new page) After having researched, analysed and written about a specific industry, provide a conclusion on your opinions of the industry; ensure you provide reasons for your opinions. 6. BIBLIOGRAPHY (new page) Make a list of the sources you used to gather your information when writing the report (e.g. internet sites, books, companies and people you spoke to, etc.) Remember to cite these throughout the report.
