MR. PHALLY CHHAY MASTER OF ARCHITECTURE
ABSTRACT This Project focus on creating a new typology of architecture by injecting a mental facility into zoo to create human-animal interaction to treate mental patients. Five kinds of animals have been studied closely with their behaviors in order to create an interactive architectural design. After research, data collection and analysis, I and my group decide to choose Melbourne Zoo as our site.
PROBLEM STATEMENT After many rearches: - Human-anmial teraction seems to be view from ONLY pet ownership - Many disorders, depression and anxiety patients are prescribed with medciation instead of natural therapy treatment - Mental patients are sensitive to be diagonosed as having “Mental Illness symtomps
SCOPE OF STUDY The design will create two main three main facitlies for pateints such as Mental Clinic, Giraffe Restuarants, and Residental Units. The giraffe restaurants is designed to create patients and giraffe interaction through out different meal experiences with Girraffe. Similarly, Four residential units have different human-animal interaction such as Aviary(birds), Monkey, Outter, and acquarium.
OBJECTIVES - treat moderate to mild mental disorders, depression and anxiety patients through human animal interation therapy - Create architectural design that increase human-animal interaction i

9.4 DESIGN ESQUISSE PHASE 1 - SPATIAL DESIGN CREATION
Design Esquisse 1 Translating C.O.V.I.D Mask design ideas to spatial design.
Ideas of C.O.V.I.D Mask that can be extracted are colour coding, transparency, and use of advance glass technology. The goal of this esquisse is to see the mask functionality, and how the collage and spatial design be different, or even enhance the original product.

65
9.6 FUTURE ROOM COLLAGE COHERENT WITH THE MASK
C.O.V.I.D Mask Collage, based on the ideation of the medical equipment. The ideas of transparency, colour coding, and use of advanced glass technology are implemented in this collage, with the natural ambient used in the space, to elevate the whole experience and ambient.
66
9.7 DESIGN ESQUISSE PHASE 2 - INFLUENCE FROM OTHER DESIGNER
Design Esquisse 2 Translating Group A design ideas to spatial design.
The group extracted the idea of being therapeutic as an anxiety relief, and translated to a spatial quality and ambient. The goal of this esquisse is to create a space that has a therapeutic, calming ambient
67
9.7 NEW MOOD BOARD
68
9.8 NEW ROOM ENVIRONMENT INFLUENCED FORM OTHER GROUP
The group took the therapeutic idea and nuance of the Aroma-thing, and attempted to translate it into spatial quality. The group focused on how the ambient of the space be manipulated to be therapeutic, and inspired by Tadao Ando’s work, creating a zen, calm space, similar to a meditation through manipulation of lights and shadow. The central water body gives tranquility and quitness, with floating bowls, chiming throughout the space. The floor, inspired by TeamLAB’s LED installation, resembling water movement by following the users’ motion.
69
9.9 WAITING ROOM DESIGN
Tensions Physical barrier between staff and patients ● Unpersonal ● Feel like ‘other’
Being “in the dark” ● Power imbalance ● Heightens anxiety
70
9.10 WAITING ROOM DESIGN CONCEPT Concepts Design concepts: ● Increase interactivity and relation between staff and patients in waiting room. ● “Vending Machine” to encourage self check-in and a more transparent process. ○ ○
Booths and rooms that provide patients with functions for self check in. Computerised/physical staff support to each of the booth.
