Orchids open eyes, ears to the world
T
he Orchid Show, a New York Botanical Garden favorite now in its 11th year, showcases thousands of orchids from around the world. This year’s show was designed by Francisca P. Coelho, Vivian and Edward Merrin, vice president for Glasshouses and Exhibitions at the Garden, and includes musical accompaniments as well as an evening program. On Saturdays and Sundays, at 1 and 3 p.m. in Ross Hall, musicians will complement visits to view the orchids with tunes from the many corners of the earth where the flowers grow.

March 30, 31, & April 1 The ensemble Nu D’Lux quartet, will perform authentic Cuban Son music

The Carlos Almeida Ensemble, from Brazil, plays rhythms ranging from samba to choro to bossa nova. Want to enjoy the orchids with a drink in-hand? Saturdays, March 9, 23, April 6, 13, & 20; from 6:30 to 9 p.m., tickets — costing $30 for non members and $30 for members — include a complimentary cocktail and special dinner offers at eateries on Arthur Avenue and beyond.
