PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS FIELD STUDIES

SENIOR EXHIBITION

Spring includes our annual week-long field studies which gives students and teachers the chance to use their knowledge in real-world, experiential settings. Students, faculty and staff head out of the classroom for a variety of direct experiences in Summerlake, Ashland, Portland and Antelope.

Senior Exhibition is the Riverdale High School culminating project. It combines research, writing and presentation skills with experiential learning and service. A major component of the project is service learning, specifically service as research. This service is designed to help students more fully understand the topic they have decided to explore, and to give them hands-on, real world experience. This six-month project results in a comprehensive paper (thesis) and oral presentation to the community.

VISUAL & PERFORMING ARTS Our arts-rich curriculum requiring four years of visual and/or performing arts provides a rich arts experience. Visual art courses encompass a broad range of subjects from cartooning to sculpture and design. Participating in the annual musical, band, choirs and jazz band give students the opportunity to demonstrate their many talents to the school community and beyond.

SERVICE Service at Riverdale is more than community service or volunteerism; it links education to service and service to learning. At Riverdale High School we have a 90-hour service graduation requirement. This happens through individual community service and classroom service learning projects. Participating in service projects prepares our students to be good leaders good community members, and good citizens.

• Skiing, Snowboarding and Swimming (in its first year) sent athletes to State Competition (2011)

HONORS Honors coursework is available to qualified students in all core classes (English, Art, Science, History, Math, World Language) and some electives. Honors encourages deeper thinking and provides greater challenge for students who are interested in and capable of such work. Students who wish to take Honors must be self-directed, able to meet deadlines and work independently. Honors work might include research, reading and writing, leadership and presentation, problem solving, scientific experimentation and investigation, community service or independent projects.

Riverdale Grade School : The Wings. These can be used as a design element; a particularly good way to use them is not at full opacity, especially when used in the background. Using just part of the wings, and at a large scale are two ways which are recommended for branding continuity. `
