Fashion’s love affair with all things seventies is showing no signs of slowing down. For us, designs inspired by this decade continue into autumn via Hustle, our homage to seventies divas and disco. With Studio 54 dance floor regulars Bianca Jagger, Diane von Furstenberg and Anjelica Huston as style references, glamour sits at the core of Hustle. Faux furs, sheer chiffons and rich colours capture the decadence of the seventies, whilst floral corsages and retro prints add authenticity to the trend. If high octane luxe is your thing then this is the trend for you. Come on, let’s do the Hustle.
HUSTLE | 7
WAYS TO WEAR 1. Faux fur should be lustrous and smooth when working a luxe look – keep shaggier furs aside for more casual looks. 2. Try rich jewel tones for high glamour. Billowing silks and chiffons in ruby, sapphire and emerald shades really pack a punch. 3. Gold lamé screams seventies chic. Get extra mileage out of a metallic skirt by pairing it with an oversized knit for daytime.

Folk meets Navajo to put a new urban spin on bohemian style MAIN IMAGE: Navajo cape coat £85 606839; Aztec blanket cape £40 607618; Layered feather necklace £35 607293 ILLuSTRATION: Trapper hat £20 607799; Crochet scarf £26 608399; Aztec blanket cape £40 607618; Cable knit jumper £38 605079; Floral print scarf £15 605196; Distressed trousers £42 607207; Shearling ankle boots £80 607036
World traveller themes continue into autumn with our Savage trend. Textures feature heavily as do Navajo inspired prints, highlighting the Native American influences which appear throughout this look. Layer up different fabrics to keep things interesting and try vivid brights and prints against deep khakis for contrast. Homespun knitting styles, fringe finishes and faux fur trims hint at folk and handicraft inspirations; more urban parka jackets and chunky boots mix back the craftwork to add a contemporary twist. To complete the look, try leather and suede accessories in tan, brown and bold colours. New Native with an urban spin. It’s time to get crafty.
SAVAGE | 11
WAYS TO WEAR 1. The key to this trend? Layering; and lots of it. Pile on native prints, blanket capes, shawls and top off with an oversized jacket. More is more. 2. Offset the khakis and browns in this trend with vibrant pops of colour. Bright scarves and jumpers do the trick. 3. Give texture a consideration, too. Wear shaggy faux furs against leather, knits and heavy cottons to add dimension.

BOY Androgyny with a street style twist. It’s time to man up MAIN IMAGE: (LEFT) Black and white faux fur coat £90 606630; Checked blazer £70 608427; wide leg trousers £40 607761; Peter Pan collar shirt £30 610720; Strappy court shoes £65 605453 (RIGHT) Monochrome crombie £90 611292; Tailored trousers £30 609383; Black shirt £25 610824; Patent ankle boots £75 604615 ILLuSTRATION: Smart coat £80 609026; Roll sleeve shirt £25 608121; Beatnik jeans £40 607668; Chained loafers £30 605695
Mannish tailoring takes centre stage for London Boy where boyfriend style blazers, boxy shirts and pleat-front trousers are absolute musts. We’re not talking straight-forward suits here though: cut through the tailoring and mix things up with denim, leather, bold flashes of colour and details such as a bow neck tie. This trend really is an amalgamation of all things you can relate to one of the world’s style capitals. From teddy boys to trend bloggers, and quiffs to Quadrophenia, London Boy draws from subcultures old and new to present us with big style inspired by The Big Smoke. London’s calling. Here you’ll find your answer.
LONDON BOY | 17
WAYS TO WEAR 1. Androgyny is the key here - mannish shirts and brothel creepers fit the bill perfectly. 2. Leopard print accessories and bold denim add an element of London flair. Throw in a bit of leather to toughen up the look. 3. Experiment by clashing bright colours against black and grey for that distinct London Boy style.

Casual yet super feminine seventies. Farrah’s all woman MAIN IMAGE: Floppy hat £25 606012; Blouse £35 607489; Midi skirt £45 603033; Gold bangle pack £9.99 602062 ILLuSTRATION: Tie front blouse £30 606709; Printed skirt £28 610607; Strappy court shoes £30 605454; Tortoise shell sunglasses £12.99 597652; Trapeze bag £40 606651
The seventies has emerged as arguably the most referenced decade of the autumn 2011 season. You’ve seen Hustle but here we have Farrah, grown up day dressing which is packed with femininity. The first thing to note about Farrah is the colour palette. This trend is all about rich, tonal shades of ochre, teal, orange and burgundy which can be found on chiffon blouses and luxe suedes. Accessories, such as widebrimmed floppy hats and briefcase style clutches, are chic and compliment the casual tailoring which creates the womanly silhouette of this look. Seventies rock girlfriends are cited as influencers of Farrah as indigo flares, vintage-style prints and lace-trim blouses come together to add a little something extra. Look, be a lady. Give seventies sleek a whirl. FARRAH | 21
WAYS TO WEAR 1. Don’t be afraid to wear a jumpsuit by day. A tailored camel number needs nothing more than a contrast colour blazer and minimal accessories to set it off. 2. Make the midi one of your autumn wardrobe staples. Try flared styles which rest on the waist and sit below the knee. 3. Wear a retro print scarf dress with a faux fur gilet – make sure you belt the waist to create a ladylike silhouette.

Capturing the spirit of the sixties we have Gigi, our take on the fashion era where London defined the style of the generation. London’s Kings Road can be credited as being the epicenter of cool in the sixties. As a regular haunt for Twiggy, Jean Shrimpton and mini-skirt creator Mary Quant, the influence London had in this decade was unrivalled. Gigi taps into this with designs which hark back to sixties originals: Chelsea boots, polo necks and shift dresses all feature as key pieces with a clean mod twist; pieces with Peter Pan collars, polka dots and faux fur trims give a more girly take on the trend. Step back in time to be fashion forward. Go-go Gigi.
GIGI | 27
WAYS TO WEAR 1. Monochrome takes centre stage for Gigi but blocks of bright colour shouldn’t be ruled out. Autumnal oranges and reds sit well with this look. 2. It’s all in the details: cuffed sleeves, Peter Pan collars and accentuated pockets add to the retro theme. 3. A print pinafore-style dress is the ultimate sixties’ piece. For a more modern take on the trend opt for a bold shift as an alternative.

With strong eyes and bright lips taking centre stage this season, it’s safer to stay subtle when it comes to cheeks. Highlighting the cheekbones with Laura Mercier’s Peach Mosaic Shimmer Bloc gives that supermodel glow and the shades on this palette also double up as eye shadows. 42

As seen at Yves Saint Laurent, I love glossy glam side partings which are so easy to do and can even be done on dirty hair. Use a tail comb to get a clean parting, use a Mason Pearson hair brush to brush hair back and then secure it with a hair band. Seal with wet look gel by putting a small amount on your hands and smooth it all over the hair for a fabulous shine - L’Oreal wet and sleek gel is great for this.
