THE ART OF NOT DISAPPEARING

Discovering your God-given identity OVE RVIE W:

Children love to play hide and seek. It’s the one childhood game we all remember playing at some point. But think for a moment about how we as adults often continue with this game throughout our lives. Through a fear of self-disclosure and genuine intimacy we find ourselves masking our true selves and projecting an image that either we are comfortable with, or we believe others want to see. Adam and Eve were the original “hide and seek” team. Suddenly confronted with their own vulnerability and weakness after letting God down, they attempted to disappear, disguising themselves with foliage from the Garden. But God came looking for them, seeking to restore not only their relationship with Him, but their true sense of identity. In the same way, God desires to skill each of us in the art of not disappearing. He longs for us to understand both who He is and what we mean to Him – and to know that there is no longer any need to hide. Van Shore shows us that God was deeply invested in our lives long before we managed to get confused about our identity and self-image. Drawing on biblical insights and his own challenging testimony of transformation, he calls the reader to allow God to shape them into the loved, accepted person He always intended for them to be as He unfolds His plan for their life.

THE BLUEPRINTS OF HEAVEN

Seeing heaven revealed on earth OVE RVIE W:

In this current season God is opening up a fresh awareness of the supernatural in the lives of believers. His desire is for us to be increasingly sensitive to the Holy Spirit and tuned into how He wants to cause Heaven to spill out on Earth. In The Blueprint of Heaven, Trevor Baker recounts his personal story of how God has led him into a deeper experience of His presence and imparted a deeper understanding of the availability to us of the resources of Heaven. He offers revelatory insights from the cutting edge of prophetic ministry and practical guidance on how readers can access these for themselves. “Trevor Baker will whet your appetite for more of Jesus and an even greater move of the Holy Spirit input generation. There needs to be a warning label on this book: When read, believed and acted upon, the contents of this book will radically change your life!” - JAMES W GOLL, Director, Prayer Storm “A dynamic read that gives every believer a road map into maturity in this season.” - SHAWN BOLZ, Senior Pastor of Expression58

BRITAIN’S SPIRITUAL INHERITANCE

Our revival history, our prophetic heritage OVE RVIE W:

“Britain’s Spiritual Inheritance is an important book—a very important book. Diana Chapman has successfully captured the burning embers of past moves of God and embedded them onto these pages. Be prepared to burn in your heart. I can’t imagine any other outcome.” BILL JOHNSON (from the foreword) Senior Pastor, Bethel Church, Redding, CA. Britain’s history is full of the stories of great men and women of God who saw Him move powerfully in their day. This is our heritage, but more than that, it is a spiritual inheritance that belongs to us – and it is time to claim back what the enemy has stolen. Join the author on a journey of discovery as she tells some of the stories and explores what it means to ‘re-dig’ the wells of revival and understand our spiritual inheritance.

OVE RVIE W: The Burning Ones charts the vision of an emergent movement of sold-out followers of Jesus – those who have aligned themselves with the company of burning hearts that God is raising up around the world. Steve Uppal contends that a new breed of no-compromise Christian is being awakened across the land. In previous generations there have been notable examples – believers who saw God move in power through the completeness of their surrender to His Spirit. Smith Wigglesworth, George Muller, Kathryn Kuhlman and others were forerunners for what is to come. But now, rather than raising up individuals, God is raising an army of like-minded, passionate warriors. A generation is rising of the same calibre of the giants of the past, who will go further and achieve more for the Kingdom of God than their predecessors. In this book Steve Uppal shows us how we can be a part of what God is doing and he gives us practical tools to help us walk that path. Your heart was created to burn – to be set aflame with the radiating glory of God’s presence. For too long, too many have settled for much less than this. Now it is time to rise up and answer the call.

CALLED

The journey to becoming a woman of strength OVE RVIE W: When Becky Galloway set out to deliver a teaching session on balancing the dual calling of leadership and motherhood, it quickly became clear to her that this was an issue that many were struggling with - not just in her local church, but nationally. Many women think - or have been influenced by others to think - that they cannot successfully be both a leader or involved in ministry, and a great mother. As a result, many are living with frustration and a lack of personal fulfilment. For Becky this has further consequences: the Church misses out on the input of their gifting; ministries are under-resourced; children miss out on a female role model to demonstrate how to serve in the Church in ministries other than the “obvious” historic ones. Becky’s hope is that this book will set women free to become all that God has called them to be: women of strength who are empowered to serve and, in turn, have a heart to empower and release the next generation of strong, godly women.

DO I HAVE TO BE GOOD ALL THE TIME?

And other awkward questions OVE RVIE W:

There are some deep, profound, life-defining questions we may all have pondered at some time… Is there only one way to live? Will anyone mind if I don’t resist temptation? If I find someone attractive is it OK to steal a mobile phone to get their attention? Is there anything in life worth sacrificing everything for? At what point on a first date is it acceptable to start planning the wedding? What is grace and should I get some? Do I Have To Be Good All The Time? attempts to make sense of these tricky topics and more. Vicky Walker explores life, love, pride, control, romance, relationships and why it probably isn’t a good idea to start a fight with a man with ‘Cut Here’ tattooed around his neck. This book cunningly provides the perfect opportunity to sit back and laugh at someone else’s mistakes while pretending to contemplate life’s big questions.

FI R ST DAY

Di s co v er i n g t h e f re e do m o f S a b b at h c e nt ri c l i v i ng

OVE RVIE W: This book challenges us to look at our lives in the light of Adam and Eve’s “first day” on the planet. Although the Sabbath was “day 7” for God in terms of creation, it was “day 1” for newly created humanity. Before God asked Adam and Eve to “do” anything, He invited them simply to “be” - to enjoy and understand the power of rest. The Sabbath teaches us the principle of working out of a place of “rest” in God, not simply “resting from work”. At it’s heart are three vital truths: 1. Worship - which is God-centred 2. Worth - we are “beings” not “do-ings” 3. Work - we work out of a proper understanding of our purpose through a clear insight into our value before God. John Andrews teaches that the principles contained within the concept of “Sabbath” are not simply intended as a once-per-week experience. Rather, they express a lifestyle that should shape our whole experience of walking with and trusting God.

FROM BEACH HUT TO PALACE

A story of church re-purposed OVE RVIE W:

In Summer 2007 James and his family spent three weeks in a beach hut in Somerset. They were broken, confused, disappointed and desperate. After 13 years of effort in ministry, they were having to walk away into the unknown. During those three weeks, however, a miracle happened. They received a “heavenly download”, the blueprint of a church God was asking them to build, back in James’ home town of Stoke on Trent - consistently described as one of the UK’s worst cities. So began a three year rollercoaster ride that has seen Breathe City Church explode in growth, expanding its membership by a factor of 10 with 70% of its growth coming from first time conversions. In this book James shares the blueprint God gave him: 7 cultural pillars that were to utterly redefine the church and its people. This book does not set out to provide a model others can copy to guarantee growth. That would be missing the point. James shows us how to receive our own revelation from God regarding our own town or city. Then he provides a wealth of wise advice on how to implement God’s plan and overcome the challenges and obstacles that will certainly exist. A book for every leader who wants to see their church break through and make an impact.

OVE RVIE W: The message of Jonah to us today is both provocative and prophetic. It reminds us that God has a passion for reaching people that far exceeds our own. It reminds us that He is deeply affected by human sin and consistently seeks to win people back to Him by extending His outrageous grace to them. We all have something of Jonah in us. Like him, we are often wrapped up in our own concerns. But God gave Jonah a wake-up call he would never forget, setting him back on the path to achieving his destiny. He can and will do the same for us! We may have messed up in the past or feel disqualified from doing anything great for God, but Jonah’s life is the ultimate evidence of the “God of the second chance.” Greg Haslam takes us on a journey to help us understand and cooperate with the will of God for our lives (including our propensity to resist, hide and sometimes run away) and highlights the power of what even one person can do if fully surrendered to the Almighty.

OVE RVIE W: The “Joshua Generation” is a term well known to many, describing those currently in their 20s as God’s answer to Generation X. The Joshua Generation’s calling has been to break into new territories for God’s kingdom. But what of the generation that is following after them? Enter the Josiah Generation… This book identifies the unique calling and characteristics of the rising generation. Olly Goldenberg points to a growing revolution in children’s ministry, where children are not seen merely as the potential leaders of the Church of tomorrow, but as a vital, relevant part of the Church’s ministry now. Examining the life of Josiah – who became king of Judah while still a boy – and recounting powerful real life testimonies, this book aims to help prepare the Church to expect great things from this rising generation. They have a call on them to do amazing things for God and to shape the culture of revival.

Th e unf ai l i ng pow e r th at re store s l i v e s OVE RVIE W:

This book tells the compelling story of one woman’s journey. It is a journey of discovery: of the profound depths of God’s love; of the unquenchable grace He pours into and through our lives; of God’s joy and commitment to us, every single day of our lives… In March 2009, Nicola Neal moved with her family to live permanently in a nation none of them had ever visited. All she had was God’s promise: “I am taking you there to teach you how to love.” Following this step of obedience began a rollercoaster adventure of dramatic highs and crushing lows as together they confronted the most unimaginable poverty and need. Yet, we read how, in the face of overwhelming circumstances and towering odds, love triumphs again and again. God’s love in action has the power to transform individuals, families and even whole communities. In this beautifully written book Nicola shares timeless truths woven through extraordinary stories of love and grace.

2:52 LEARNING TO GROW ON PURPOSE

Lessons from Jesus’ hidden years OVE RVIE W:

As Jesus is about to enter into eighteen years of obscurity, Luke gives us only one clue as to His preoccupation during those years, informing us, “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man.” (Luke 2:52) The temptation is to think that Jesus grew ‘naturally’ in these areas, but the verse implies that Jesus grew intentionally and deliberately. In short, Jesus grew on purpose. When it comes to Jesus we often want to get to His miracleladen ministry, His teaching on the Kingdom and His death and resurrection. For approximately 3 years Jesus impacted His world, but these 3 years represent only 9% of His life on earth. So what about the other 91%? These silent years of Jesus undoubtedly form the foundation for the 9%, for which Jesus is most famously remembered. It’s in these years that Jesus grew! Every follower of Jesus and any person who seriously desires to take up the mantle of leading others must also learn to lead themselves. Even though Jesus was God in flesh, He intentionally grew intellectually, physically, spiritually and relationally. If Jesus grew, so should we. Contained with 2:52 lies the blueprint of learning to grow on purpose.

LEARNING TO LOVE

Passion and compassion - the essence of the Gospel OVE RVIE W: Rolland and Heidi Baker founded IRIS Ministries in 1980. After conducting missions across Asia for several years and later planting a church among the homeless in central London, they received a strong call to minister to the world’s poorest nation: Mozambique. They encountered an unprecedented outpouring of God’s Spirit in Mozambique and have since planted almost 10,000 churches across the nation and bordering countries. They have seen God’s miraculous power in supernatural provision and countless healings. Continuing where their previous book left off, the narrative of Learning to Love covers the last 5 years of the IRIS journey in a unique package: • The narrative is interspersed with devotional reflections from Heidi Baker at the end of each chapter • The book is packed with black and white photos from Rolland Baker’s stunning collection Readers will be inspired by how much God can accomplish when we simply say “Yes” to His will.

LIVING THE LORD’S PRAYER

Powerful and relevant: unpacking Jesus’ model prayer

OVE RVIE W: As Christians we find ourselves living in a pluralistic society where many people know little biblical truth. This has not always been the case. Many will remember learning The Lord’s Prayer at school and, to this day, can recite it word for word – the words of Jesus firmly imprinted on their memories. In removing The Lord’s Prayer from our school system’s daily devotions we have lost something vital. The truth is that the Lord’s Prayer is revolutionary! Contained within it is everything that society needs to connect with the God of the universe who made humanity in His image. It expresses essential truth and, when examined more deeply, gives a revealing insight into the heart and character of God. David Carr takes us on a journey through this prayer into a deeper intimacy with the God who provides, sustains, protects and guides. In each chapter we meet a Father whose power is unlimited, whose tenderness is deeper than any other, and whose protection is guaranteed – regardless of what life throws at us.

OVE RVIE W: LIFE! Life is a gift we have all been given. Each of us only gets one shot at it – one chance to make the most of it and to make a difference in our world. God has given us one life – how will you live yours? Author Steve Uppal contends that we must, “live it well, live it right and live it in the light of eternity.” The issue is not how long we live, but how well we live. Jesus only lived to the age of 33, but during His time on earth He fulfilled everything He had been given by God to do – such was His sense of purpose – and He split history in half as a result. This book unpacks the principles of living a life of purpose. It helps us to identify and understand our calling and explains the difference between the purpose that is true for all believers and our individual, unique purpose in Christ. It reveals that, ultimately, we discover who we are and what we are meant to do when we immerse ourselves in God’s presence.

OVE RVIE W: “In my life and ministry in Iraq, nothing is more important to me than the immediacy of the presence of God. Without His presence we are truly lost. Here David provides an all-important compass for us to find and abide in The Presence. I highly recommend it.” CANON ANDREW WHITE In Presence Carriers, David Shearman presents a compelling argument to demonstrate how dwelling in God’s presence can, and should, form a part of every aspect of our lives. There is no area of life and nothing we can do that cannot be enhanced by God’s involvement. Taking examples from the personal journeys of biblical characters, as well as personal anecdotes, he shows how committed God is to shaping each of our lives by His presence. No event or circumstance is wasted in His diligence to form Christ in us. We will, however, need to be open to embrace change as a constant factor in our lives. Written in two parts, the first half of the book teaches the importance of finding alignment with the Presence. The second half looks at multiple aspects of God’s presence in the light of preparing us for our destiny in Him.

REVIVAL’S SYMPHONY

The Creator ’s masterpiece - more than one note OVE RVIE W:

Our history is rich with accounts of revival. The British Isles have experienced many amazing moves of God that have impacted our own shores and those far beyond. Whilst remaining keenly aware that there are differing definitions and opinions regarding what constitutes “revival”, author and respected revival researcher/historian Andy Smithyman explores the threads common to all revivals and looks at how they subtly and seamlessly work together to create culture change. Likening a revival to a musical symphony, Andy presents the individual “notes” that harmonise together to form the whole. From it we learn the essential ingredients that all would-be revivalists must focus on - including some elements which may surprise some. Andy describes this book as, “An attempt to capture the awe of Heaven’s handprint upon the land … I pray that the words that have been crafted give honour to what I term revival’s ‘intricate living symphony’: an organic movement of astounding majesty between the Lord of Creation and creation itself.”

ROOTING OUT RELATIONSHIP KILLERS

Proven strategies for healthy relationships OVE RVIE W:

Stephen Matthew contends that nurturing and maintaining our relationships is much like gardening. We need to root out the weeds that frequently grow up and threaten to stifle or even kill off previously healthy relationships; and we need to positively “feed” those relationships with things that will enrich and enhance them. In this book he identifies the “weeds” that are the most common relationship killers and tells us what “feeds” will most effectively counteract them. This is an overwhelmingly life-affirming, positive book that aims to strengthen and enrich all our relationships, keeping them healthy and strong. It is both positive - it focuses on relationship building - and it is preventative - if we take the advice offered here, we can avoid the pain of major relationship dysfunction. This book will do you good. It will make you a better friend, husband, wife, mother, father, brother, sister, team member, business partner, leader, manager or employee. As a result, your life will enrich those you relate to and do them good too. Everyone wins when we build relationships God’s way.

THE SPIRIT OF THE PURPLE COW

Leadership, Follow-ship & other mindbending stuff OVE RVIE W:

James Galloway contends that a vital ingredient is missing from many churches - and this is robbing them of the potential for dynamic growth. No, it’s not the art of great leadership. Rather it is the art of great “followship”. A leader must model their vision and provide a good example to follow, but more important for health, growth and vitality is followers who really know how to follow. Drawing from the biblical story of Jonathan and his armour bearer and the lessons learned from Breathe City Church’s explosive growth over a short period of time, James guides us through the essential characteristics of great followship and presents a completely different paradigm for church growth. What does all this have to do with Purple Cows??? Read to find out! “James Galloway is creative, courageous and compassionate. THE NAME

A journey through the names and character of God OVE RVIE W: Throughout the Bible we read that there are many different names attributed to God. Each describes a different aspect of His character and reveals - in as much as it is possible for humanity to understand the divine - something about His nature and the way in which He desires to interact with us. Above all, the names of God show us that there is an aspect of God that meets our needs in every area of our lives. When we call for help, God has an answer and that answer is Himself. If we are troubled and stressed out by life, He is our Peace. If we are embattled and oppressed, He is our Banner - the one who not only watches over us, but actively goes into battle on our behalf. Stuart Bell takes us on a journey through these and a number of God’s other Scriptural names, allowing the truths contained within them to reveal all that God desires to be and do for us in this season.

THERE IS STILL MORE

Reaching for more of the kingdom OVE RVIE W:

Whatever stage we have reached in our Christian life, the Bible tells us that there is always more to discover and experience. Paul wrote to the Philippians that he was always straining towards what lay ahead and the Bible is full of similar encouragement to press in and experience more of God. • Are you hungry to experience more of God’s presence? • Do you feel guilty about continually asking God for “more”? • Don’t we already “have it all” in Christ? In answer to the last question, Mary Pytches contends that potentially we do – yet most of us do not enjoy the riches that are ours by right as a child of God – a bit like the millionaire who chooses to pursue a meagre existence, never drawing on the vast resources available to him. But Jesus clearly taught us, “Ask and it will be given you…” and it would seem that God likes hungry followers because He also said, “Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance.” So how do we find “more” in Christ? Mary Pytches gives us a clear road map, drawing from her own experience over many years of following God, and presents clear, biblical guidelines.

Fre e to l i v e as God i nte nde d OVE RVIE W:

At this time God is at work in the nations of the world, doing new things that require us to re-adjust our thinking and align ourselves with Him. This book is designed to help Christians everywhere understand with greater clarity how to participate in the amazing works of God – and to enrich the lives of those around them with His love and power. Author Pete Carter poses such questions as… How can we grow as individuals in Jesus’ love and power? How can we demonstrate that love and power to the world around us? He uses the biblical story of Lazarus, brought back from the dead by his friend Jesus, to explore the answers. Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead – but that wasn’t the end of the story. This episode was not complete until Lazarus was free to live again, and that could not happen until the grave clothes restricting his body were removed. Likewise, one of our main tasks in serving Jesus is to “unwrap Lazarus” – to help people become all they were created to be. We were all born to be fully “unwrapped” – to love God more, to trust Him more, and to do all that Jesus did and more!

WIN THE WORLD OR ESCAPE THE EARTH?

The end times controversy

OVE RVIE W: “Prepare to have your worldview seriously challenged!”- KRIS VALLOTTON, Bethel Church, Redding Much confusion exists among Christians today over subjects such as the rapture, the tribulation and the nation of Israel. This book seeks to bring muchneeded clarity and makes a timely appeal for the Church to return to classical Christian belief and focus on reaching the nations for Christ. This major study of the return of Christ covers every aspect of the subject and leaves no stone unturned. Its no-nonsense approach to the second coming is sure to blow open the debate over prophecy and the end-times. “Many dubious books have been written on the end times which sow confusion and anxiety. This is a rare and welcome alternative. It addresses all the relevant biblical passages in a wise and thoughtful way demonstrating that a right understanding of God’s plan for the end of the age does not instil fear, but rather inspires faith.” TIMOTHY LARSEN, Professor of Christian Thought, Wheaton College, USA
