The section of the road will be closed to all through traffic from Thursday 7 September until around Wednesday 4 October, with detours in place during the closure.
Local River Road traffic will maintain access under traffic control.
As Old Narrandera Road closes, Pine Gully Road, which has been closed between Old Narrandera Road and Muttama Place, will reopen.
Council Senior Project Manager Robert Mithilan said this section of Pine Gully Road is the first stage of works.
“We’re pleased with how the works are progressing in this major upgrade project which will deliver improved safety and traffic flow once completed,” Mr Mithilan said.
“The Pine Gully Road phase involves earthworks to form a new dedicated left turning lane onto Old Narrandera Road and stabilisation of the road base before it is resurfaced.
and reconstructing the River Road intersection.
“It’s expected that section of Old Narrandera Road will be closed to through traffic for up to four weeks while this work is undertaken,” Mr Mithilan said.

“We acknowledge the extra time this road closure and related detours will add to people’s journeys and appreciate the patience of residents and road users.”
Detours from 7 September
Motorists will still be able to turn left from Old Narrandera Road onto Pine Gully Road, and turn right out of Pine Gully Road onto Old Narrandera Road. There will be no left-hand turn out of Pine Gully Road onto Old Narrandera Road.

Outdoor adventure is returning to Wagga Wagga Botanic Gardens
Precinct this month with the Spring Jam Children’s Festival coming up on Saturday 23 September 2023.
Wagga Wagga City Council Destination and Events Coordinator Kimberly Parker says the curated children’s festival event is jam-packed with activities for kids and their families.

"We are excited to bring a program of vibrant adventure play and interactive fun to entertain and educate visitors and community," Ms Parker said.
Kids will be able to get active and develop their problem-solving skills with obstacle courses, participate in creative workshops by local and surrounding artists, and interact with beautiful and enchanting roving performers who will be wandering through the festival space sharing playful encounters with festivalgoers.
Live music will be performed by the ARIA-nominated Australian children’s band The Vegetable Plot and dynamic music duo Whistle & Trick on the main stage.
“Junkyard Beats will also join the other roving performers, bringing a blend of dance, comedy, and creative recycling into a one-of-a-kind performance,” Ms Parker said.
“You’ll be amazed with the way they transform everyday objects into extraordinary musical instruments.”
The Zoo and Aviary will be open with some of Wagga Wagga’s favourite furry friends making a special appearance during the festival accompanied by our expert zookeepers. People can get up close and learn about the animals.
Bring the whole family along for a day of outdoor fun and excitement, from 10am to 3pm.
Be sure to pack a picnic or grab snacks from the range of mobile food outlets that will be at the festival.
Wagga Wagga City Council advises motorists and residents about an upcoming road closure on Old Narrandera Road between the Olympic Highway and Pine Gully Road to allow for the next stage of the current upgrade project.
“Culverts and two median islands will be installed early next week.”
The Old Narrandera Road phase of works, between the Olympic Highway and Pine Gully Road, includes widening this section of road to four lanes (two northbound and two southbound lanes)
Southbound traffic is asked to detour via Estella Road, Boorooma Street, Farrer Road and Coolamon Road to access the Olympic Highway. This route in reverse can be used by northbound traffic travelling from the Olympic Highway to Old Narrandera Road. Motorists can keep up to date with traffic disruptions by visiting livetraffic.com

STUDY SITES: Sections of Kooringal Road to the north and south of the Fay Avenue intersection will be among the sites investigated.
Disruptions expected as geotechnical studies begin
Wagga Wagga City Council is advising motorists and residents to expect traffic disruptions due to geotechnical investigations on a number of roads across our local government area over coming weeks.
The evaluation work is scheduled to start from Tuesday 5 September and take approximately two weeks, weather permitting.
It will include sections of Copland Street, Kooringal Road, Byrnes Road and Main Street, as well as several streets and intersections in the city centre, east Wagga Wagga, Lake Albert and Kooringal.
Director Infrastructure Services Warren Faulkner said the geotechnical investigations are part of the assessment process as Council prepares its program
of road works, which is expected to start in October.
“These geotechnical investigations for road rehabilitation projects involve digging into the ground to understand the soil, rocks, and other materials underneath the road,” Mr Faulkner said.
“This helps engineers figure out how strong the current pavement and foundation under the pavement is and what kind of challenges might be lurking beneath the surface.
“By doing these investigations, we can plan the best ways to fix or improve the road, making it safer and longer lasting for everyone who uses it.”
This year, the investigations are being carried out as one block of work split between two local contractors.
The contractors will have an auger (drill) mounted to a trailer and will stop and test a site and then move up the road to the next site.
One lane will be closed around the trailer while the testing is being carried out, with traffic control measures in place.
The 2023/24 program of road works will be confirmed once the NSW Budget is announced in September.
The list of roads where geotechnical studies will be undertaken is included in the article online. Find it at wagga.nsw. gov.au/news
