Weekly information from us to you Get ya skates on Forest Hill The next Aussie pro skateboarder could be perfecting their skills in Forest Hill right now. The city’s sixth skatepark opened on Wednesday and has been a huge hit with the Forest Hill locals. “The skatepark and all the new facilities at the park are fantastic for the children of Forest Hill, it gives them somewhere to come after school and on weekends instead of having to take them into town,” Forest Hill dad Dominic Inman said.

WHEELS IN MOTION: Harry Inman, 10, and his dad Dominic test out the new Forest Hill skatepark. The skatepark has been a huge hit with the Forest Hill community since the construction fences came down on Wednesday afternoon. The skatepark is one part of a $300,000 makeover of the Forest Hill Oval. SCOOTER SISTERS (Inset): Emily, 6, and Sarah Bourne, 11, were all smiles at the Forest Hill skatepark earlier in the week. Wicked set to bedazzle Wagga It’s a treacherous tale that has spellbound audiences time and time again across the globe, and now Wagga Wagga will have its very own production of the Broadway hit Wicked: The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz.
The bedazzling cast of local singers, performers and musicians for the Civic Theatre’s latest community production was announced this week. Local nurse and singing teacher Meredith Adams will star as the wicked witch Elphaba. “I’m extremely excited to be involved in this production. Everyone comes along for the love of it and to do something special,” she said. “It’s such an iconic role so it will be very challenging and will definitely push me to my limits.”

Equally excited is the director Peter Cox. “I have always been a great fan of the original Wizard of Oz story and especially the MGM film,” he said. “So when the opportunity came up to direct this stunning version of the ‘Untold Story of the Witches of Oz’ I was just wrapped. “The fact that I am now able to once again work with such talent from our Wagga community, in a major musical production, is just the icing on the cake.” This latest production will see the Civic Theatre continue its proud tradition of
producing quality community musicals, which have included The Boy from Oz, My Fair Lady, Oliver and Legally Blonde. Wicked looks at what happened in the Land of Oz before Dorothy arrived. With a thrilling score that includes the hits ‘Defying Gravity’, ‘Popular’ and ‘For Good’, Wicked tells the untold story of Glinda the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West. Premiering in November, tickets are on sale now: civictheatre.com.au.

$300,000 overhaul of Forest Hill Oval now complete FROM FRONT PAGE
“It has been a fantastic effort by all, the community and working with Council, to get just what the people here in Forest Hill need.” The skatepark is part of a $300,000 overhaul of the Forest Hill Oval, with all improvements focussing on increasing the social and inclusive environment within the Forest Hill community. “When we asked the Forest Hill community last year what they wanted from their local park it was clear that recreational and social facilities was a top priority,” Strategic Asset Planner (Parks and Recreation) Ben Creighton said. “The skatepark, which was a big ticket item for the community, and a new sheltered barbecue and picnic area both provide new social opportunities for the people of Forest Hill. “There was also a need for better
connections within the open space. Through the improvement works we have been able to put in concrete footpaths linking the skatepark to the amenities. “We were also able to relocate the existing playground closer to the amenities and new barbecue shelter. This will make is easier and safer for parents to mind their children while accessing the services at the oval.” The new skatepark is a large modular style, the first of its kind in the city, complete with half pike, rollers, wedge ramps and grind rails. When compared to concrete skateparks, the modular styles provide greater variety in design and are made from flexible and impact-absorbing materials, which can help reduce injuries. The Forest Hill skatepark adds to the growing list of skateparks in the city, with one at Chambers Park in Tolland, Henwood Park in Kooringal, Bolton Park in Central, Webb Park in Ashmont and

There will be stories, smiles and plenty of sausage sandwiches shared at a new outdoor space at the Ngurra Community Centre in Ashmont. The space at the rear of the centre, which is owned and managed by Wagga Wagga City Council, includes a sheltered barbecue area, seating and table tennis table. New footpaths to the amenities and a new access path at the front of the centre
was also included in the project. Both pathways enhance the accessibility of the centre for all patrons. Funded through Council and the Family and Community Services (FACS) Social Housing Community Improvement Fund, the area has already been well received, being used for a NAIDOC Week celebration last week and a football carnival earlier this week. “This new area has given the
Ngurra Community Centre an added community atmosphere … we hope to see this area attract new user groups as well as benefit those programs and activities that already run from the centre,” Centre Community Development and Engagement Facilitator Tania Jones said. The centre is open Monday to Friday offering drop-in and outreach services as well as running a range of programs and activities, with a particular focus on youth engagement.

With the weather over the last couple of weeks been cold and foggy on occasions I am very glad for the farmers of our area and hope that they have received enough rain for their crops.
I am now going to ask for your help!! There has been a lot of graffiti appearing in the city and on a number of signs; this can be very dangerous. Wagga’s community policeman has had a meeting with our MP Daryl Maguire and is putting in a request for a grant to obtain more graffiti removal material. We have also obtained
help from a wonderful community member who has commenced removing graffiti during weekends. Now here is how everyone can help us, please advise where you have noticed graffiti, all you have to do is phone me on 0402 214556, or write a note to me and drop it into the Wagga Wagga Council Customer Service desk. This will be

very helpful especially if the graffiti is on a sign, it will enable us to get rid of it ASAP. It will also help us with Rotary’s Graffiti Removal Day, which is being held on Sunday 29th October when we can get more volunteers to help. We want to work towards Wagga Wagga being a graffiti free city. Here is another plea for help… Operation Wagga
