Cycling complex works on a roll Progress works at the new Multi Sport Cycling Complex at Pomingalarna Reserve are now 80 per cent complete and on target for completion by early next year. Construction on the BMX track has started and work towards finishing the criterium track and its three loops continues at a solid pace. The final asphalt top on the 333-metre velodrome is expected to be laid next week and will add to the completed elements of the cycling park which include the pump and jump tracks, the education park and mountain bike trails.
Light towers around the velodrome and along the criterium track have also been installed with final fit-out of the community building underway. Council’s Strategic Asset Planner Ben Creighton said conversations are already taking place with cycling organisations towards planning of events at the new complex. “We have worked closely with the Wiradjuri Women’s Group and cycling stakeholder groups from day one. The input and feedback from all groups has been positive,” Mr Creighton said. “This project will not only cater for organised events but is a facility that will be open to the general public

elements are getting a real workout these school holidays. “We continue to get positive feedback from
the community and that is encouraging. The facility we are building here has enormous community benefits, as well as the potential to bring new events to the city which is great for our local businesses and the economy.” Council Project Manager Tom Lemerle said the project was on schedule for practical completion by April next year, weather permitting. “Asphalt for the velodrome and criterium track is the next major construction milestone. These works are ground temperature and wet weather dependent and are scheduled to be complete in the coming weeks,” Mr Lemerle said. “Stakeholder engagement and consultation has
been a big focus of this project, yielding some fantastic results to date, and will continue to be very important to the project team as the project is completed. “It’s definitely an exciting project which will tie in with the Active Travel shared pathway project that is also being rolled out at the moment … there’s some great development happening across the city right now.” The project is jointly funded by a grant from NSW Government's Regional Sports Infrastructure Fund ($7 million) and the City of Wagga Wagga ($5 million). FUR FACTS: When you are a cat owner, remember to be a good neighbour. If your cat goes outside, you need to ensure he/she does not become a nuisance by causing damage, displaying aggressive behaviour, fighting or killing our native wildlife. If you want your cat to experience the outdoors, think about getting a cat enclosure to prevent straying and these unwanted behaviours. R251000208

CENTRE STAGE: The design concept of the new stage to be built as part of the event spaces in Riverside – Stage 2.
Riverside – Stage 2 transformation starts Work is underway on Wagga Wagga City Council’s Riverside - Stage 2 project, which aims to rejuvenate the Wagga Beach and Murrumbidgee River precinct, enhancing the amenity of the city. The development comprises a regionally significant playground, food and beverage outlets, event spaces, car parking upgrade and a new shared path. It is designed to transform the precinct stretching from the beach carpark through to the former St Michael’s Oval into a large multipurpose public recreation space that will become a focal point and destination for residents and visitors. Council Project Manager Srivalli Miah said the detailed design for the development is being finalised and contractors, Huon, have begun stormwater works at the site.
“Once those are complete, they will continue with bulk earthworks in preparation for construction to commence in the coming months,” Ms Miah said. “A container for the gardeners’ storage and office, along with a food and beverage van have been purchased, while a substantial order has been placed for landscaping elements. “Separately, sub-contractor Moduplay has started fabricating and testing the playground equipment at its factory in the Illawarra. It will be transported to Wagga Wagga in small sections and assembled on site.” The Moduplay design is an all-abilities adventure play space inspired by some of the city’s history, as well as Wiradjuri themes. It was a clear winner with community members in Council’s playground poll conducted earlier this year. A new amenities block will be constructed, which will include
an accredited adult-accessible lay down change facility. Another stunning design feature of the precinct will be the main stage, which will cater for a wide range of events. The overall Riverside Stage 2 project is being funded by NSW Government’s Restart NSW, the Federal Government’s Local Roads & Community Infrastructure Fund and Council. Ms Miah said key elements, such as the playground, stage, and internal roads, have been designed to withstand flooding. “Some other elements, like the gardeners’ storage container, have been designed so that they can be removed during a flood event,” she said. “We would get advanced warning and would use that opportunity to take them off site CHANGES AFOOT: Transformation of the former St Michael’s Oval and using a truck or a crane.” caravan park site is underway as part of the Riverside – Stage 2 project. The project is expected to be completed by mid-April 2022, weather permitting.

ANOTHER WEEK OF HOLIDAY FUN!
School holiday activities across the city will continue next week after plenty of fun and games kept youngsters entertained during week one. Wagga Wagga City Council has planned a series of small activities at various venues across the city as a replacement to the popular Spring Jam Festival which was cancelled recently due to the impacts of the pandemic and
lockdowns. Council’s Visitor Economy and Events Coordinator Fiona Hamilton said the activities for week two, starting on Monday 27 September, would be similar to the first week allowing families extra opportunity to take advantage of the activities. “The school holiday program includes a minimum of one activity each day of the holidays,
targeted at the lower secondary, primary and preprimary school aged groups,” Ms Hamilton said. “To ensure there is opportunity for families to attend, the activities will be repeated throughout the second week, with a mixture of free Council-led activities as well as those offered through our local businesses. “We’re hoping these programs offer
