Import-export event to connect Wagga to the world

Local business owners and operators keen to explore taking their product from Wagga to the world are being targeted at a unique exporting seminar in Wagga early next month. Wagga Wagga City Council and NSW Department of Industry will host a free seminar and networking event tailored for businesses in the Riverina-Murray which are interested in learning more about exporting and global trade

markets. “Exporting: Wagga to the World” will engage a number of local, state and national experts in the export and trade industries who will be available for walk-in sessions at the Civic Centre Council Meeting Room on Wednesday 1 May. “The all-day event will be free to anyone interested in global trade and who wants to investigate options about the first steps into overseas export markets,” Council’s

General Manager Peter Thompson said. “We want to provide an opportunity for business owners and operators who have aspirations to export their products but have uncertainties about where to begin. “The seminar will have a crosssection of key industry experts and trade providers on hand to discuss exporting and importing opportunities and help those with

an interest take the next steps in negotiating the process. “Representatives in air, sea, rail and road freight industries will be available to give first-hand advice on how to get started in global trade. It’s a chance not to be missed.” The trade event will take an informal format of walk-in, face-toface conversation with trade and industry representatives, and then supported by group sessions with

a particularly dry period with dams and lakes around the state in a similar situation to Lake Albert. A normal rainfall season is generally sufficient to fill the lake and account for any evaporation. The second, and probably the most achievable solution, is to pump water from the Murrumbidgee River

via a pipe. The costs involve the laying of a long pipe, the purchase of a licence (if one can be found) and the ongoing cost of pumping the water from the river. In round figures, it’s a $10M project that would provide the lake with an additional halfa-metre of water. The question then needs to be asked: Is

Lake Albert is once again in the news with a petition calling on Council to “fix the low water level problems”. It’s something that all Councillors are desperate to achieve, but it’s easier said than done. Lake Albert is a

popular attraction with many thousands of people walking around the lake each and every week. Sailors and motor boat users would also like to be able to use the lake 12 months of the year. At the end of the day, there are three main solutions. The first and the cheapest is rain. NSW is experiencing
