approved. With the project now fully funded, cycling is set to become a more viable transport option through the development of five new cycling networks that link the outer suburbs with the CBD. “This is an ambitious plan that looks to the future and will have long-term, widespread benefits for our community,” Mayor of the City of Wagga Wagga Councillor Greg Conkey OAM said. “The introduction of a complete cycling network with separated cycle paths allows our city’s transport infrastructure to adapt to

predicted growth and cements our position as a leading regional city in NSW.” The locations of the proposed cycling routes and end-of-trip facilities are yet to be confirmed. During the project’s design phase, stakeholder and community consultation along with technical studies will take place to inform what the cycling network will look like. Wagga Wagga City Council General Manager Peter Thompson said the planned infrastructure will have significant benefits for the community and works towards the strategic direction of achieving a healthy
and connected city. “The proposed cycling networks will connect key locations within the city", he said. "The strategy makes provision for arterial cycleways across the city and will give community members another great feature to enjoy in our city. "Users will be able to cycle along safe, separated cycleways with access to end-oftrip facilities including secure bike storage. “This infrastructure will provide high quality cycling options to move about the city and will encourage increased physical activity.” Story continued inside
Cricket fans beat the heat for WBBL matches Despite the hot weather, close to a thousand cricket fans attended each day of the Women’s Big Bash last weekend at Robertson Oval. While the Sydney Thunder took home a convincing win on Saturday, winning by 37 runs, the Sunday match was much closer with the Adelaide Strikers outplaying the Sydney Thunder in a super over to win by one run. Following last weekend, Sydney
Thunder sits second on the WBBL ladder while Adelaide Strikers closely trails in third place. Council would like to thank everyone who helped prepare for the match, including Council’s greenskeeper Tim Morrison and Wagga Cricket who were responsible for preparation of the grounds, and extend their thanks to all residents who attended and showed their support.

From front page The ATP was a key part of Council’s Wagga Wagga Integrated Transport Strategy (WWITS 2040) and has been in development for a number of years. Council initially received $88,000 in funding from Transport for NSW to develop the ATP and finalised the plan in 2016.
“The Active Travel Plan is something Council staff have been working on to make a reality for many years,” Mr Thompson said. “The support of the NSW Government and Daryl Maguire in making this happen is greatly appreciated.” “Wagga Wagga is growing rapidly and this week’s significant funding announcement of
$11.7M will allow our city to not only meet the current demand, but to continue to be a strong and vibrant regional capital.” Following the design phase, the construction of the cycling networks is scheduled to be completed in 2021. MORE SHORELINE WORKS F O R L A K E A L B E RT Additional shoreline works are set to take place on the eastern side (Apex Park side) of Lake Albert. A further 150 metres of shoreline works will extend on from the 200 metres of works completed in December last year. On Monday, the NSW Government announced more than $80,000 to complete the new
remediation works. Strategic Asset Planner (Parks and Recreation) Ben Creighton said these works will help stabilise the foreshore and improve accessibility. “Along this stretch we will be installing additional boat tie-up points, which will allow boat users to access more points away from
the boat ramp,” Mr Creighton said. All treatments along the foreshore are designed to withstand the elements and fluctuating lake water levels. These works follow on from 18 months of ongoing works around the lake, including carpark and boat ramp upgrades.
R E S E A L WO R K S TA K E B R E A K The first stage of Council’s annual road reseal program is complete. The program kicked off two weeks ago with streets in Lake Albert, Glenfield and Turvey Park having received a new surface. There will now be a short break in the program due to the contractor being unavailable.
The remainder of the program will restart in midFebruary. Residents and businesses will be notified via letterbox drop of dates and changed traffic conditions prior to works starting in their street. This year’s $1.5M roads reseal program will focus on roads across 12 suburbs and some rural areas and will
take about three months to complete. The reseal program is rolled out each year during the warmer months and is a preventative road maintenance technique. For full details on changes to traffic conditions during the reseal program and to keep up to date on the schedule, visit www.wagga.nsw.gov.au/roads.
