From front page “There are 22 sections of locally sourced concrete to be poured. Each 40 cubic metre section is constructed with a complex steel mesh foundation before 96 tonnes of concrete is poured into the slab. It takes approximately one day to pour and set each section of the 350m spillway,” Senior Project Manager Darryl Woods said. He said the long spell of dry weather had allowed the works to continue without interruption and the spillway is scheduled for completion by the end of May.

BABY BUBBA: Council’s Supervisor, Horticulture, Henry Pavitt and Zoo Curator Kira McBeath with newly named Bubba.
MEE T BUBBA AT T HE BO TANIC G ARDENS ZOO
Wagga’s donkey foal Bubba lapped up the attention on Tuesday morning when he was officially named at the Botanic Gardens Zoo. The community was invited to contribute to the very important decision of naming the donkey foal, the second born to mother Jenny. “More than 150 suggestions for names were posted to Council’s Facebook page,” Council’s Supervisor, Horticulture, Henry Pavitt said. “Many of the suggested names focussed on the Forrest Gump naming tradition of previous years. Dad is named Forrest, Mum is Jenny
and older brother is Forrest Junior. “Popular entries receiving numerous votes included Lieutenant Dan, Cadbury, Bubba, Duffy, and Shrimp.” The 150 entries were collated and then shortlisted down to three by the Council staff who care for the animals housed at the Botanic Gardens Zoo. The winning name, Bubba, was then selected by Council’s Director of Commercial Operations, Caroline Angel. The community is welcome to meet the adorable Bubba at the Botanic Gardens Zoo. It’s free and open every day from 9am to 4pm.

URANA S TREE T ASPHALTING WORKS S TART ON 7 MAY Asphalt works will start on Urana Street, between Bourke and Mitchelmore Streets, on Monday, 7 May. The Urana St works are approximately 700m in length and Council has scheduled two weeks to complete the project. Consultation is underway with
affected residents about the staging of the works to ensure vehicular access is maintained and to minimise disruption. The intensive work requires the thick asphalt to be laid in three separate layers: two lower base layers and one top wearing course.
Once all lower layers are completed the contractor will then complete the top wearing course over the entire stretch. While Urana Street is closed detours are in operation via Coleman Street and Fernleigh Road from 7 to 18 April.
