After twenty-five years in the harsh and unforgiving spotlight of politics, The Wharf Revue has decided to step away from public life.
“It’s an opportunity to spend more time with family.” said a spokesperson. “At the end of the day, this is about the need for renewal. We’ll serve one last term to max out the super and then try to pick up some kind of consultancy work or do a series of Survivorlook, it’s too early to say but it has been an honour to serve the Australian people.”
Many public figures who’ve appeared in the show regularly over the years are lining up for a place in the final hurrah: Keating, Howard, Downer, Costello, Gillard, Abbott, Carr and other throwbacks too numerous to mention. Those who bear the torch of democracy today: Lambie, Hanson, Bandt, Dutton and Albo - a veritable “Who’s that?” of Australian politics.
So, join us for this joyous yet bittersweet send-off to one of the great national theatrical institutions - but please, no flowers by request.

Are You Lonesome Tonight is Opera Queensland’s most ambitious regional tour in its 40-year history. Visiting more than 30 communities and travelling some 8,000 kilometres across Queensland in 2021, this show is coming now all the way to Wagga Wagga.
With a cast of young Australian singers including Gabrielle Diaz, Marcus Corowa, and Jonathan Hickey, Are You Lonesome Tonight features arias and songs by composers such as Puccini, Verdi, Slim Dusty, and Dolly Parton, to name just a few.

After debuting Gladys in a rock ‘n’ roll press conference in the Black Summer Rock Opera Watch and Act, a crack team of musicians and actors takes you through the early life of Ms Perfect, from her flawless leadership through two disasters, until her biggest disaster, Dodgy Daryl from Wagga Wagga.
With music and lyrics by ABC Radio's Nick Rheinberger, Tia Wilson returns as Gladys in several colourful blazers. It's got big rock numbers, epic ballads, Armenian matchmaking, tap dancing, and even more musical press conferences. There are aging parents, drug side effects, precious catalogues, abandoned hamsters, not to mention drinking, fighting, projectile vomiting, and the destruction of some rather lovely tulips.
Boys will be boys, but can the grown-ups be grown up enough to resolve their differences without losing sight of right and wrong?

Bray’s works don’t look like conventional dance... They also feel different because you experience them in your own skin. He thinks of his audiences as “co-storytellers” because they’re inside the work they’re watching.
THE AGE
Garabari is a contemporary dance celebration inspired by corroboree.
Joel Bray invites audiences to be part of a thrilling, large participatory dance, celebrating the power of rituals across First Nations cultures to transmit knowledge and connect communities through shared experiences.
A key element is that this work was made in genuine collaboration with the Wiradjuri community in Wagga-Wagga and the Riverina.
The work began as an instruction from the Elders for Joel, with their permission, to create a new dance to honour one that had been lost - a revival of dance and language.
This is an active event where you will participate and be part of the performance on stage. There will be limited seats available for observers.

A new stage production igniting conversation, change and truth-telling.
Detention tells the compelling tale of two young people from disparate worlds finding each other amidst a figurative minefield: Sima, a Hazara refugee fleeing a detention centre when her visa has been rejected, and Dan, a marginalised boy raised in a caravan park in regional Australia. Their shared quest for a sense of home and safety binds them together.
Based on the novel by Tristan Bancks, this production explores the refugee experience, centring on themes of displacement, belonging, and shared humanity. Developed in collaboration with Hazara artists and young people, Detention seeks to ignite conversations, using theatre as a catalyst for truth-telling and change.

The Civic Theatre is fitted with a hearing loop. The system is accessible via hearing aids with a telephone setting. Please note, reception quality and levels may vary according to the age and type of hearing aid.
A carer is entitled to a free ticket when accompanying a paid Companion Card holder to the theatre.
Parking is available near the Civic Theatre. Car parks are in Cross Street, entry via Cross Street, and at the corner of Morrow and O’Reilly Streets, entry via O’Reilly Street.
