BMX track to complete cycling complex Construction of a BMX track with lighting at the Multisport Cycling Complex on Pomingalarna Reserve will be completed early next year to finalise the entire project. An additional $2.8 million funding to enable Stage 2 was formally endorsed by councillors at the 26 July Ordinary Meeting which paves the way for the full completion of the project. Stage 1 is now 75 per cent complete and is due to finish by the end of this year, weather permitting. Contractors will stay on site after December to finish the development which includes the following elements. • Design and construction of the BMX track • 300 lux lighting to BMX track • Third loop of criterium track • Irrigation to centre of velodrome and adjacent to amenities building

• Additional bike racks • Playground •S ealing of Bagley Drive from existing golf club entrance to new entrance Council’s Director Regional Activation Michael Keys said the Stage 2 works were in the feasibility study and are not

additional works outside the original plans for the complex. “It means we can deliver on the entire scope of the original masterplan,” Mr Keys said. “This is an exciting outcome for the community. Being able to deliver the BMX track means there will be some very happy people keen to get pedalling at a facility that promises to be to a standard for top level competitions. “It also means finishing the third loop of the criterium track which provides so many more options for competition races.” Contractors have achieved significant progress in recent months with the opening of the pump track, jump track and mountain bike loop at the end of May. Progress on the community building has seen the roof installed and services fit-out, external brickwork and internal walls completed. Fittings, fixtures and finishes work is now underway. Earthworks and pavement construction on the velodrome is finished, landscaping is nearing completion and signage has been installed in the learn-to-ride space.
