Laneway Revival The transformation of Cadell Place from back alley to beautiful was well underway this week, with the first two artists landing in Wagga Wagga and getting to work on their giant canvases. As part of Council’s new micro-festival Lost Lanes on Saturday 23 June, four murals are being created on the back walls of Wagga Wagga Tourism Partners Thirsty Crow, Knights Meats, Cadell Place and the Prince of Wales.
Artist Keo Match completed his mural on Knights Meats this week, while Ling is currently working on Thirsty Crow’s rear wall. The two other artists will be in Wagga Wagga soon to help bring Cadell Place to life ahead of Lost Lanes, which will feature music from local musicians, roving performers and winter-themed food and beverage offerings from local businesses. visitwagga.com/lostlanes

Have your say on commuter cycling network Your feedback on the development of Wagga Wagga’s commuter cycling network is continuing to roll in. Council is currently calling on the community to provide input on the preferred routes for the 43km network of shared paths, which will make cycling or walking to and from work or school a more viable option for residents. Council staff have also been working directly with key stakeholders over the past week to discuss the preferred routes, which consist of 10 links - Bourke Street, Kooringal, the levee, Kapooka, Forest Hill, university, Red Hill Road, Wollundry Lagoon, Morgan Street and southern. “We’ve received a number of submissions already and we’ve also had some interesting discussion at our stakeholder sessions,” Strategic Asset Planner (Parks and Recreation) Ben Creighton said. “We are continuing to meet with stakeholders next week and community members can make a submission until Wednesday, 13 June. MOVING FORWARD: Digital concept images of what the commuter cycling “Your feedback will be used to finalise the network may look like at the Bourke-Wooden (above), Morrow-Baylis (top right) business case required by the NSW Government, and Fox-Forsyth (below) streets intersections. which will unlock more than $11M of funding for Wagga Wagga.” Once the NSW Government funding documentation is finalised, the project will move ahead quickly and would be constructed by 2020. Mr Creighton said a commuter cycling network will help cater for future growth in Wagga Wagga. “The network will better connect our suburbs with the CBD and it will also feature end-of-trip facilities so you have somewhere to store your bike or get changed,” he said. “Wagga Wagga has many wide streets, which will allow us to develop a commuter cycling network without reducing traffic lanes or parking spaces. “Improved cycling infrastructure can also help reduce traffic congestion for motorists, as well as the many lifestyle benefits for those who choose to ride or walk to work.” For more information on the project, visit wagga.nsw.gov.au/cycling.
CONSULTATION: Council’s Strategic Asset Planner (Parks & Recreation) Ben Creighton (centre) discusses the routes with stakeholders this week.

HARD WASTE SERVICE: JJ Richards & Sons staff load a broken couch into the truck in Bourkelands this week.

HARD WASTE COLLEC TION BEGINS
Wagga Wagga City Council’s hard waste service kicked off this week, with households across the city taking the opportunity to dispose of larger items. The new service replaces the previous Free Tip Days and is part of the new kerbside waste service that started on 2 April.
Properties that pay the domestic waste management service charge are eligible for one free hard waste collection each calendar year. Unlike Free Tip Days where residents had to have access to a vehicle or trailer, under the new service a garbage truck comes to your property on a pre-booked day
and will remove up to two cubic metres of eligible hard waste. While the new service makes it easier for residents to dispose of larger items, Council encourages the community to first consider whether the items can be reused or recycled. Both Gregadoo Waste Management Centre
(GWMC) and Kurrajong Recycling accept a number of items for free. Residents can also drop of items in good condition to the GWMC Tip Shop. For bookings and to find out what items are able to be disposed of though the new service, visit yourwaste.com.au/ hardwaste or contact (02) 5942 6150.
COMPLETE: The final coats of paint have been applied to the western side of Wollundry Bridge after weeks of intensive repairs. The 1850s bridge has been undergoing maintenance works, with Council staff restoring the concrete handrail on the western side and reconstructing 28 columns. Works will now continue on the eastern side of the bridge. Pedestrians are asked to take care and follow detours near the worksite.
NE W PU M P AT W O L L UNDRY L AGOON
Installation of a new flood mitigation pump station at the eastern site of Wollundry Lagoon started on Tuesday. The new pump station will aid pressure relief from downstream flood pumps during flood events by pumping directly to
the Murrumbidgee River from Wollundry Lagoon. The Wollundry Lagoon acts as a retention basin for the inner-city stormwater catchment discharging to Tony Ireland Park. During moderate flood events, Wollundry Lagoon may exceed
its capacity and experiences surcharging, which can result in flooding around the Civic Precinct. Pedestrians should follow the detour signs at Wollundry Lagoon while works take place.
