Rehabilitation works to begin on Forsyth Street
Rehabilitation works on the section of Forsyth Street between Docker and Murray streets will get under way early in the new year.
The project is scheduled to begin on Tuesday 6 January 2015 and the section of road will be closed to the general public from 12 January for four to six weeks. Access during this time will be limited to residents and businesses. The rehabilitation works will be carried out in two stages that will involve stabilising the subgrade and resealing the road to produce a high quality road for decades to come. The works have been scheduled
to be undertaken during the holiday period to minimise disruption to traffic and residents. Access to all residential driveways along Forsyth Street will be maintained throughout the works, with Council staff putting in place alternative routes and access points for local traffic. The driveways from Forsyth Street into the South Wagga shopping complex will be closed for approximately two weeks.
BIG SCREEN: Christmas may have come and gone, but the festive spirit is alive and well in the Civic Centre each night until the new year. A 23 minute-long animation celebrating the holiday period in Wagga is being projected on the outside of the Council building from 8pm to 11pm every evening. While you’re enjoying the projections from the Wollundry Lagoon area, take a look at the Christmas tree and the decorations around the Civic Centre forecourt and Historic Council Chambers.

At this time, once the end of year rush is put to bed, our thoughts turn to many of the finer aspects of life. Family, friends, a reflection of our guiding principles and how they support us as a community. Even in these troubled times the principles of peace and goodwill hold pride of place in our hearts and minds in this season. Over the life of this Council, our community has met many challenges and made many decisions about how we shape ourselves into the future. Overwhelmingly we have met those challenges, and made those decisions, with respectful debate and goodwill. We have an understanding that peace in our community is seated in that respect of others, and the knowledge that even when we disagree we are all working to build a better community. Sadly, we have not always risen well to that challenge. Sometimes the debate has descended into shouting, name-calling and ridicule. For
the most part, community members who have contacted me have been thoughtful and respectful to others, but I have been surprised that some have thought that an appropriate first contact is to abuse, shout or threaten legal action. I understand that by the time community members get to a Councillor they may be very frustrated, but I also know that all our Councillors are at pains to understand the problems that are brought to them, and to address those problems as best they can. Even if they ultimately disagree with you. I wish all a peaceful and safe end of year break, and thank those who are working across that time to ensure essential services, or to support those who find this time of year more challenging. Let’s hope that the spirit of peace and goodwill in our community continues to be nurtured and grows into the New Year as the foundation for our city as a respectful, open and diverse community. An example of peace and harmony, and an ambassador of goodwill.
