Douglas Aerospace enters voluntary administration
Representatives from Wagga Wagga City Council met on Monday with the administrator of Douglas Aerospace, Andrew Wily from Armstrong Wily. “Mr Wily informed Council he was investigating the affairs of the company in accordance with his obligations and intended for Douglas Aerospace to continue to trade during the voluntary administration period,” Council’s General Manager Phil Pinyon said. Council is a creditor of Douglas Aerospace for $2.1M and has been monitoring the financial position of the
company. Council became aware of the appointment of an administrator on Monday 4 May 2015. “Council holds security over the assets of Douglas Aerospace, which is not affected by the appointment of the administrator,” Mr Pinyon said. “Council has requested further information from the administrator before making any further decision or taking any further action.” A first meeting of creditors is likely to be held in Sydney on 12 May 2015 and a report will be issued by the administrator to creditors.

LET THEM EAT CAKE: WWRFDC Patron Mary Kidson cuts cake as part of the celebrations.
Kids celebrate day care week Wagga Wagga Regional Family Day Care (WWRFDC) marked National Family Day Care week with a fun-filled open day on Tuesday 5 May. Clowns, craft, a jumping castle and cake helped kick off a week of celebrations for WWRFDC as it celebrates 40 years of service to the city and the wider area. The anniversary was formally marked at a dinner at the RSL Club’s Mirage Room on Friday May 8 2014 as WWRFDC looked back on its proud history. Patron of WWRFDC and one of the original campaigners for family day care in the city Mary Kidson said a lot has changed in four decades.
“It was very much a learning process for everyone in the early days,” she said. “You only have to look around now to see how vital family day care is. “More and more families have two people working and there are also single unit families and they all need to have access to care. “The carers are small business people and they have to meet a certain requirement of qualification and training and I think that’s fantastic. It’s good for them and it’s good for the status and standard of the scheme.” In 1975, WWRFDC began operations under a pilot program and was the first scheme in
country NSW to receive funding. The first office operated from the Rest Centre on the Esplanade and childcare cost $0.50 per hour, or $20 for the whole week. By the end of the first year, family day care in Wagga had 30 families registered. Now 2015 WWRFDC caters for 360 children per week across 250 families. Family day care stretches across the region from Lockhart to Coolamon and it also offers other unique services like 24-hour care and mobile play sessions. To find out more about WWRFDC, contact 6926 9367 or email fdc@wagga.nsw.gov.au

Council News - A Wagga Wagga City Council publication
Footy fans pack McDonald’s Park More than 9000 footy fans packed into McDonald’s Park to help make the Country-City Origin clash an unprecedented success for Wagga Wagga. A luscious green field and upgraded facilities were praised by both representative teams, who were thrilled to see the game supported by a sell-out crowd. The clash lived up to the hype following a 26-all draw in 2014, with Country claiming a 34-22 victory over their City counterparts. Mayor of the City of Wagga Wagga, Councillor Rod Kendall, said “I’d like to thank Wagga and all of the Riverina for helping make this event a success,” he said. “The sell-out crowd of 9127 is a testament to the hard work of Council staff and all involved from local rugby league, Country
Players praise supportive Wagga crowd Country players Jarod Croker and Ryan Hinchcliffe have heaped praise on the city following their 34-22 win over City on 3 May. A vocal crowd of 9127 at McDonald’s Park threw their support behind the Country team, with the pair both taking time to thank fans. “Coming back to my home area I was especially keen to get on board with this game,” Temora product Hinchliffe told CRLTV.
“I really wanted to play well. I was stoked we could come out and put on a really good performance in front of a huge crowd. “The people of the area, they really love this game. For us to get the win, that was for them and they deserve it.” Croker echoed his Country teammate’s praise of the crowd. “Every time the boys put on a big hit or scored a try it sounded like there
were 30,000 people here… they really helped us over the line.” Both coaches were also full of support for the game in Wagga, with City mentor Brad Fittler dubbing it the best in recent years. “I’ve watched the Cairns and Bathurst games and it was nothing on this,” he told nrl.com. “It was chockers and people were spilling out over the edges.”
Rugby League and the NRL. “Wagga is the City of Good Sports and we’re certainly living up to that title with a Super Rugby trial match at McDonald’s Park in January and the Sheffield Shield at Robertson Oval in February. “Country-City has topped off a very busy start to 2015 for our city and it’s a massive shot in the arm for the local economy.” Tourism research shows an overnight visitor to Wagga will spend approximately $383 per visit and stay an average of 2.6 nights, while a day visitor will inject up to $149 into the local economy each trip. Wagga’s sporting facilities will be on show again in July when the Eastern University Games are hosted by the city and Charles Sturt University. More than 3000 student athletes will flock to Wagga for the event.
Lucky jersey winner
Wagga’s Aaron Hausfeld (pictured above with the Mayor of the City of Wagga Wagga, Cr Rod Kendall) is the proud owner of a signed Country jersey after being drawn as the lucky winner of the Council News giveaway, from more than 800 entries. The prize was drawn at half-time at the Country-City blockbuster at McDonald’s Park. “It was a great game,” Aaron said. “I was right at the tryline so I had a great view. “I play soccer a fair bit, but I’ve always followed the NRL and I’m a Parramatta fan – I love it.”

Councillor Column
councillor.tout@wagga.nsw.gov.au After attending the Country v City game on Sunday I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank all of those involved in making this event a reality. The number of people who attended is a testament to the event, the organisers and McDonald’s Park as a facility to host major events. The passion of the organisers and those who made the event “happen” was obvious to see and is the invisible ingredient that escalates the success of an event from the enjoyable to the amazing. Last Wednesday I also attended the reopening of the renamed CSU Riverina Playhouse. Again this event was a truly entertaining experience and the passion and excitement of the students, staff and members of the public in attendance was obvious for all to see. I also look forward to attending further performances throughout 2015. The common link between these two seemingly

independent events is the existence of passionate and motivated parties who have partnered with Wagga Wagga City Council to assist in the development and operation of public infrastructure in the city. In regard to both McDonald’s Park and the CSU Riverina Playhouse, the success of the improvement in the infrastructure is inextricably linked to the passion and involvement of partners rather than the volume of dollars contributed by all parties. The ability for community organisations to source donations, sponsorship and in-kind services has the ability to apply a multiplier to seed funding that either the Council or the original partners have contributed. The last upgrade of McDonald’s Park is a prime example of this. Moving forward, Council and community organisations need to foster more partnerships where passion and ability to contribute in a project are a compulsory element. Just throwing large amounts of money at a project without that missing ingredient will not lead to ownership in and success of projects going forward.

While under administration, Traxion continues to trade. Council representatives have met with the administrator and were informed the principal cause of voluntary administration was exposure of a Traxion Group member to iron ore prices and a decline in the mining industry.
