30 November 2012 Wagga Business translates into Chinese Business Wagga Wagga City Council is leading the way in NSW by being the first local government organisation to have their economic profile available online in the Chinese language of Mandarin. Visitors to www.economicprofile.com.au/waggawagga can now simply click on the Mandarin text icons on the top of the website page to view the content in Chinese. “China is forecast by the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development to surpass the USA’s GDP in 2017 to become the world’s largest economy,” Councillor Rod Kendall, Mayor, City of Wagga Wagga explained. “The capability of allowing users to toggle between the English and Chinese versions of Wagga Wagga’s economic profile will meet the needs of prospective Chinese investors through the provision of current facts and trends about our economy.” Wagga Wagga has world class investment, including the recently commissioned A$63 million Riverina Oils & BioEnergy facility, meat processor Teys Australia, battery recycler Renewed Metals Technology, oil recycler Southern Oil, automotive parts manufacturer Precision Parts, leading shopping bags distributor BeeDee Bags and the $20M Murrumbidgee Mill project that features a residential precinct set aside commercial and retail amenity in the heart of the city. “Our partners in China have been central to our expansion into overseas automotive parts markets,” Daryl Day, Managing Director, Precision Parts said. “With the economic profile website now available in Chinese, it will provide us with an excellent resource for building our relationships in China.” Bruce Dicker, founder and owner of BeeDee Bags said “Our company has manufactured bags in our jointly owned factory in Jaimusi in China since the mid-nineties, and we have developed strong relationships in China over this time. “Having our local economy’s profile online in Chinese will distinguish our city as one which welcomes the Chinese and is prepared to reduce the barriers to promote commercial opportunities.” The Chinese online version of Wagga Wagga’s economic profile has sprung from the Council’s relationship with economics consultancy Compelling Economics, which provides its economic modelling software, REMPLAN, to Council.
