Directed by Santo Barbagiovanni, Center Lane provides a safe and comfortable place for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth, ages 13 to 21. Here, program participants can socialize and enhance their self-esteem and personal growth without fear of harassment. “We provide a sense of community,” Santo says. The program serves young people through support groups, workshops, counseling and community service, and also provides cultural sensitivity education to families, other youth-serving organizations, government agencies and school staff.
