Santa arrives in the snow!

The Windsor Parade Corporation presented the 2021 Amherstburg Santa Claus Parade last Saturday night. The snow was flying but over 50 floats entertained the thousands that lined the streets. It marked the return of the regular format, as a “reverse parade” was held last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. For more photos, turn to Page 15.

Audit being requested by town councillor By Ron Giofu

An Amherstburg town councillor has requested audit reviews of financial practices within the town. Councillor Peter Courtney put forth a notice of motion at town council’s most recent meeting to request KPMG to review several items including the town’s internal controls, operating budget variances that have occurred for the fiscal years between 2018-21 and capital projects completed and/or underway in that same time period with a project value

greater than $300,000, including the Amherstburg Community Hub. The notice of motion also requests that town council authorize interim CAO Tony Haddad to sign all the necessary documents required to undertake the noted work, and that KPMG’s findings be reported to council in accordance with the Municipal Act. The cost would be charged to the professional services account in the CAO’s office, should the motion be approved.
