AAM Goodfellows raise $15,800 in newspaper sales

By Ron Giofu The AAM Goodfellows’ annual newspaper sales brought in thousands of dollars to help the community. Volunteers with the Goodfellows returned to the streets and storefronts of Amherstburg last Friday and Saturday and raised approximately $15,800. AAM Goodfellows president Rick Murray said they raised about $9,800 Friday when there were morning and afternoon sales and an additional $6,000 last Saturday morning.

“We did pretty good,” said Murray. “The weather was pretty nice for a change except for the showers Saturday morning. Everything was good.” Murray said the $15,800 was down a bit from last year but that was because they had a higher than usual total in 2020. “It was less than last year but last year seemed to be an exceptional year for us,” said Murray. “But compared to past years, it was about normal.” Murray wondered if people were extra generous last year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. In the end, he was happy with this year’s

fundraising total. “All of the money is going to the food baskets,” Murray stated. About 45 people volunteered their time last Friday with another 35 volunteers giving back Saturday. The food for the food baskets is purchased through Sobeys with the help of franchise owner Rennie Rota. “He gives us as good of a deal as he can on prices. He watches for sales to keep our costs lower,” said Murray. Continued on Page 4
