“Devil’s Masquerade” helps out humane society By Ron Giofu
People and their pets dressed in their Halloween finest Saturday night all to benefit the Windsor-Essex County Humane Society. HAG Customs Print & Design teamed with GL Heritage Brewing Co. and presented the first annual “Devil’s Masquerade” event at the Howard Ave. craft brewery with activities happening both inside and outside. The event raised approximately $5,000. Food and drink was enjoyed inside while an outdoor movie and performances by Erikka Johnson and the Starlight Aerial Co. entertained the crowd. The evening also featured busker Eric Scott Baker, who performed both inside and outside GL Heritage Brewing Co. and a costume contest. Glen Greenwood, owner of HAG Customs Print & Design, helped organize the event and said it was presented as a way to assist the humane society. “The reason we’re here is to help those guys. We’re just animal lovers,” he said. “This is a way people can have fun doing it.” Greenwood said animals become members of the family so to help an organization that helps animals, “it’s a no-brainer. If you can have fun doing it, why not?” The event was a sell-out, with approximately 120 people coming to GL Heritage Brewing Co. during the course of the fourhour event. The plans are to try and make the “Devil’s Masquerade” an annual event. Arms Bumanlag, director of development with the Windsor-Essex County Humane Society, said events like the “Devil’s Masquerade” can’t happen

without the support of the organizers, sponsors and public. The humane society is working to build relationships and while he said he has worked with Greenwood for about 20 years, he is creating more through this event. “We’re in the business of being able to give second chances,” added Bumanlag. “We can’t do that without the community’s

The humane society has also launched wellness clinics for pets in partnership with veterinary clinics in the Windsor area so people can have their pets treated at a low cost if they are having difficulty paying their bills.
