Chris Lewis wins re-election as Essex MP By Ron Giofu

The voters in the riding of Essex as well as nationally decided to stay the course Monday night. The Liberal Party and leader Justin Trudeau was projected to win another minority government nationally and Conservative Chris Lewis retained his seat locally. Lewis, first elected in 2019, defeated six challengers with the closest rival being NDP candidate

Tracey Ramsey. Ramsey had served as Essex MP from 2015-19 before losing the seat to Lewis. Preliminary results as of Tuesday morning saw Lewis with 27,688 votes for 41 per cent of the overall total. Ramsey had 21,428 votes, good for 31.8 per cent. Liberal candidate Audrey Festeryga had 10,408 votes (15.4 per cent) while People’s Party of Canada candidate Beth Charron-Rowberry had 6,778 (10 per cent) when we went to press. A total of 254 of 255 polls were

reporting. Green Party candidate Nancy Pancheshan had 839 votes. Christian Heritage Party (CHP) candidate Jeremy Palko had 180 votes while independent candidate Andrew George had 168 votes. Voter turnout was 64.1 per cent, not including electors who registered on election day, according to Election Canada’s website.
