Get ready to ride the wave!
On Sat, Aug. 18, at White Eagle Hall in Downtown Jersey City, local musicians and performers will take to the stage to celebrate art and community at the six-hour JC Wave Fest. All proceeds from the JC Wave Fest will help subsidize the many free and affordable art openings, readings, and other arts programming that JCTC will present in its 2018-2019 season.
“One way JCTC serves Jersey City is by giving opportunities to a wide range of artists from our community,” Olga Levina, Artistic Director of CTC says. The six-hour festivalstyle concert will spotlight some of the best musicians performing in Jersey City. Songwriter and keyboardist Shayfer James will be accompanied by drummer Corby Hewson and bassist Donovan Cain will play songs from March of Crows, a song-cycle inspired by Jersey City murals. “There is something really exciting and special about performing songs in this city that exist only because of it and the incredible arts

nlike artists who use easels, Anthony Boone prefers the floor, and paints like a dancer with a partner. With his hands, he drips, swirls and splatters paint while he tilts the canvas and moves around its periphery. With an extensive color palette by his side, Boone works spontaneously, painting abstract and surreal works that seem to move on the canvas After 13 years of group shows, Boone will take center stage in his first solo show, The Art of Movement opening Thurs, Aug. 9th at Base, the gym on Columbus Drive in Downtown, Jersey City. There, Boone will exhibit 10 paintings he created specifically for the show because, he says, they connect with Base’s mission to get the body moving, and movement has always been a part of his process. “Movement is a form of life,” Boone says. “In my artwork, I do a lot of movement, the tilting of canvas, pouring of paint. I’m actually moving while I’m painting. I don’t use a paint brush. I use scrapers, spoons, my hands. I paint like Jackson (Pollock).
