UP ON THE ROOF
Hoboken’s MST takes Hit Show Off-Broadway The Net Will Appear, Dec. 5-30, 59E59 Theater, NYC By Sally Deering All the action in Erin Mallon’s play, The Net Will Appear takes place on the rooftops of the homes of a lonely kid and her even lonelier neighbor. The two-person play features veteran actor Richard Masur as curmudgeon Bernard, and Dasha Dakkuri and Eve Johnson, who share the role of Rory, the spunky – and very wise – youngster who helps Bernard beat the glooms. The play which premiered at Mile Square Theatre (MST) in Hoboken in 2017 opens Dec. 5 and runs through Dec. 30 at 59 E 59 Theater in Manhattan. Tickets are on now on sale. The Net Will Appear centers around the unlikely friendship between Rory, a rambunctious 9-year-old, girl, and her 70-something neighbor, Bernard, who prefers quiet time on his roof until Rory comes along and breaks through his solitude. She eventually earns his friendship, and the two help each other survive some life challenges in order to move on. The play is touching and funny and seems to strike a deep chord with its audiences. MST Artistic Director Chris O’Connor says The Net Will Appear was a huge success when it premiered in Hoboken last August.
Dasha Dakkuri and Richard Masur in rehearsal for the Off-Broadway premiere of The Net Will Appear.
“Our production of The Net Will Appear was by far our most successful show ever,” O’Connor says. “People came back to see this wonderful play twoand-three times. We are thrilled to move the show to an OffBroadway venue and to bring it to a New York audience. The play depicts a unique friendship; two characters, wildly different, who find each other from atop their suburban rooftops and forge a beautiful friendship. We are also thrilled that Richard Masur is returning to play the role of Bernard opposite two talented young actresses; Dasha Dakkuri and Eve Johnson. Audiences are in for a real treat.” Masur (Bernard) has a career that spans 45 years with hit TV shows like The Hot L Baltimore, One Day at a Time and Rhoda, and more recently, Transparent, Girls, Younger, the Good Wife, Orange is the New Black and Chicago

Jersey City Native Ron Semple Releases New Book
Ron Semple’s new novel, “Her Morning Shadow”, was published on Friday, November 30, simultaneously in the United States and in the United Kingdom by Top Hat Books, an imprint of John Hunt Publishing. Semple is a fifth generation Jersey City native. A longtime newspaperman, he rose from cub reporter to publisher at a half-dozen daily newspapers including the old Hudson Dispatch and the Jersey Journal. He now lives in Advance, NC. “Her Morning Shadow” is a stand-alone historical novel but loyal readers will enjoy following the further adventures of some the memorable characters they met in “Black Tom: Terror on the Hudson.” That book won the J. Owen Grundy History Award offered by the Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy. Here’s what one early reader had to say about “Her Morning Shadow: “Buckle down for a wild
