fixture in the Downtown Jersey City art scene, painter Peter S. Bill creates colorful abstracts of straight and curving lines that seem to turn into hot neon lights. Bill’s new solo show, SPLASH OF COLOUR opens Fri, Jan. 11, and runs through Sun, Jan 20 at 313 Gallery on Third Street in Downtown Jersey City. On Sun, Jan. 13, Bill will host an Opening Reception along with a ‘Meet the Artist’ segment from 3-7 pm. SPLASH OF COLOUR consists of 30 paintings of varying size that Bill describes as “thoughts”.

“ They’re random thoughts,” Bill says. “You do one and you have a thought for another one. They’re ideas. Designs in color.” It’s a progression, Bill says, and a different usage of color than his previous works. “Before, it was a graduation from one-to-six or one-to-eight of the same basoc tpme.”

Bill says. “Now I’m doing a multitude of different colors because colors are where it’s at. Enough of this depression. Living in the age of Trump, it’s basically gloom and doom. I’m trying to break away from that.” Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Bill has lived in Jersey City since 1992. He co-owned

Culturally, maybe a tradition has been passed down. A refugee reconnecting with their homeland through food.

We think it’s a topic that can potentially connect everybody.” FOODIES is only presenting four performances, so seating is limited with just 24 seats available per show, Wahl says. The restaurant’s Chef Mory Thomas will be in charge of the light tasting menu, which will change every night of the show.

Basmajian says because the restaurant is small, the audience will sit at a circular table and the actors will play and interact outside the circle. Wahl hopes one day to find a permanent space for Speranza Theatre Company, which performs in venues throughout Jersey City. “Without having our own theater space, we’ve become really great at collaborating,” Wahl says. “It was in our mission from the very beginning. Our aim is to create thoughtprovoking collaborative theater.” If you go Wed-Sat, Jan 16-19 @ 7:30 pm FOODIES Square 1 Community Eatery 283 St Paul’s Ave, JC Tix: Brownpapertickets. com Tix: $40, includes refreshments

n Wednesday evenings, artist JeanAntoine Norbert of the Jersey City Drawing Club leads artists and models in a drawing session at Mana Contemporary art museum. The 3-hour open workshop allows amateur and professional artists to draw together and network. Starting Mon,, Jan 14, and running through Fri., Jan. 18, Norbert will conduct a Portrait Drawing Beginner Workshop at 107 Bowers Gallery & Artspace in Jersey City. Gallery owner and director Kristin J.
