Hudson County Community College Begins Construction of New 11-Story Center for Student Success

Hudson County Community College (HCCC) pioneered the urban campus concept by integrating learning environments, cultural spaces, public areas, and workplaces within Jersey City’s Journal Square, the heart of Hudson County, New Jersey. In establishing the Journal Square Campus, the College became an essential part of the neighborhood that engages and serves the County’s residents and businesses where they live, and has been the catalyst for the area’s development.

On June 18th theCollege hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the HCCC Center for Student Success at 2 Enos Place in Jersey City, New Jersey,

. HCCC Vice President for External Affairs, Strategic Directions and Senior Counsel to the President, Dr. Nicholas Chiaravalloti served as master of ceremonies.

HCCC President Dr. Christopher Reber and Trustee Pamela Gardner welcomed United States Congressman Rob Menendez; Hudson County Executive Craig Guy, Commissioners Anthony Romano and William O’Dea;

HCCC Student Government Association

President Nina Maria Resurreccion; Hudson County Building and Construction Trades Council President Patrick Kelleher and labor leaders; and HCCC Trustees, students, cabinet members, faculty and staff.

Dr. Reber said that growing a campus embedded in one of the nation’s most densely populated areas poses unique challenges and

that the College was keenly aware of its overarching need to serve as a good steward of the neighborhood. To

Seventeen New Firefighters Take the Oath of Office in Bayonne;Two

Sisters Join the Fire Department

On June 13, seventeen new Bayonne firefighters were sworn in at a graduation and awards ceremony in the Bayonne City Council Chambers. City Clerk Madelene Medina administered the oath

of office to the new firefighters before a crowd of more than 200 people. For the first time in Bayonne history, two sisters, Lacey Gillen and Payton Micewicz, were sworn in as firefighters. At the same ceremony,

the Fire Department honored former Chief Gregory Rogers and presented valor awards to Captain Matthew Kemple and Firefighter Erik Lyman. State Assemblyman Will Sampson IV, Council Member AtLarge Loyad Booker,

and Second Ward Council Member Jacqueline Weimmer offered congratulations and best wishes to the new firefighters and their families.

The new class of firefighters was named in honor of former Fire Chief Gregory Rogers.

Bayonne Gets its Own Monoply Game

Bayonne Council MemberAt-Large Loyad Booker proudly shows his copy of BayonneOpoly, the popular board game has come out with editions for municipalites around the country featuring local information.

The new class of firefighters was named in honor of former Fire Chief Gregory Rogers. At the ceremony, Rogers described firefighting as “the best profession in the world.” He served in the Fire Department from 1980 to 2016. Rogers said that the job still gave him “that same thrill” after thirty-five years. Rogers encouraged the new recruits to participate in all events and to stay in shape for the rest of their careers. Chief Weaver said that Chief Rogers led the department during Hurricane Sandy, when firefighters responded to 1,100 calls for service. Under Chief Rogers’ leadership, the Bayonne Fire Department obtained $10 million in grants. During his tenure, the department enlisted its first female firefighter.

Art House Productions (Executive Artistic Director Meredith Burns and Gallery Director Andrea McKenna) are thrilled to present the Summer Edition of The Affordable Art Show! In keeping with Art House’s mission to make art accessible to all, this summer’s show is specially curated for all tastes and all budgets. The show includes 120 works of art by 66 artists that will be exhibited in the South Lobby area of the CRRNJ Terminal. All works priced between $30 and $500 will be for sale at the Terminal: 1 Audrey Zapp Drive, Liberty State Park, Jersey City, NJ 07305. Art House Gallery exhibitions are always free and open to the public. Parking is free for up to two hours in Lot 9 across from the Terminal.

Former Hudson County resident and author Jon D’Amore will be back in his native New Jersey to do a reading of his bestselling book, Me and George.

D’Amore originaly from Union City and later Secaucus has penned quite a few books in the past few years.

The Author has written six books in all, beginning with his Memoir “The Boss Alwasy Sits in the Back” which took him 18 months to complete and according to an article that appeared in NJ.COM The book, set primarily in Union City and Bayonne, follows a family of mobsters from

the early 50’s into the 90’s. It is based loosely on D’Amore’s family and experiences with the New Jersey mob through his father and godfather.

The next performance of Bayonne Summer Sounds by the Bay takes place on Wednesday, July 10th with The Ultimate Elvis Performance with Richie Santa! In the last 12 years, Richie has performed over 900 shows as an Elvis Tribute Artist focusing

on the Vegas concert years. The Love and respect Richie has for Elvis is evident in all his performances!

July 17 – WinslowEagles Tribute Band: Winslow Tribute Band

celebrates the iconic American Band, The Eagles. This powerhouse ensemble recreates the live performance of The Eagles and the signature sound that made them one of the most successful artists in the 70’s. A passion for detail, Winslow ‘s multi-lead vocalists authentically capture the soaring 5-part harmonies, precise instrumentation, and stage showmanship as they perform The Eagles music catalog.

The concert will take place at the amphitheater on the lower level of DiDomenico-16th Street Park. The concert site is located below the foot of West 16th Street, between Avenue A and Newark Bay.
