Bridge Arts Festival: Sept 8, 11 am-6:30 pm Art, Music, Dance, Food Trucks, and Animodules (huh?)

By Sally Deering The section of Bayonne before you get to the Bayonne Bridge is a village of coffee shops, restaurants and art, yoga and dance studios that comprise many of the storefronts between 1st and 8th Streets, aka Bergen Point. President of the Bergen Point Merchant Association, Christopher Mack, his wife Cheryl

Park into a community happening that will take place at the park’s performance pergola and on the grassy area between the two ball fields. Located right on the waterfront, the performance pergola has the backdrop of the Bayonne Bridge, one of the reasons for the festival. “Bayonne is more than just a bridge, it’s a vibrant arts community,” Cheryl Mack says. “Bergen Point, the southern-most neighborhood in Bayonne, has come alive in the last three-to-five years. There’s a dance studio, yoga studio, bookstore, coffee shop, a couple of restaurants, and our gallery, the Bridge Arts Gallery. We’re all part of the Bergen Point Merchants Association. We want to help promote Bayonne and Bergen Point as a destination for food, coffee, books, dance, art. It’s definitely a village. It has a village feel.” The Bridge Arts

Festival will feature an Artists Market, Food Truck Row, a Crafty Fox craft corner for the kids, and so much more.

Singer Alicia Olatuja

For entertainment, Brooklyn’s Los Hacheros will perform songs from the Golden Age of Latin music. Conundrum, a social music group led by trumpeter Germain Brito, guitarist Isaac Sanchez and drummer Charles Tyler will perform; and soloist Alicia Olatuja will sing. The Anthony Fuscaldo Trio will perform jazz; the Dance with Me Dance Studio dancers will perform, along with the Jersey City Ballroom Dancers, the Surati Dance Troupe, and TapLife. ART BOHO

More than 50 Artists to Show at Bayonne Community Museum New Faces, Old Friends, Show Opens Sept 14

By Sally Deering There’s no doubt that Bayonne – or Boho as its artists refer to it – continues to transform itself from a quiet little suburban peninsula to a thriving arts community. Artist Patricia Mulligan- Zbylut and her husband Bill Zbylut are both artists and Bayonne residents, and with Mulligan as curator, they will be participating in the upcoming Together in Art show along with 50 other artists from the Metropolitan area. Together in Art opens Fri, Sept. 14 with an Opening Reception from 6-to-9 pm, and it runs Sat, Sept. 15 from 1-to-6 pm, and Sun, Sept. 16 from 1-to-4 pm. The exhibition will feature some new faces along with seasoned members of the Art Circle of Bayonne and the Hudson Artists of New Jersey. Admission is free. The show will feature a wide range of mediums including oil, photography, mixedmedia, sculpture, glass, wood-carving, handmade jewelry, pencil, and charcoal. There will be 8 tables of 3D art, sculpture and jewelry, Mulligan-Zbylut says, and some abstract and humorous works, too. “I wanted a real mix of styles and medias, and luckily we got it,” Mulligan –Zbylut says.
