Head south to the beautiful Roman city of Coimbra and discover the tranquil sanctuary of Fatima. Next, explore the famous sights of Lisbon before travelling to the picturesque town of Sintra, with its panoramic views and the famous Royal Palace.

DAY 8 – Coimbra & Fátima

For those choosing to extend their holiday, our first destination is the ancient city of Coimbra. We have the privilege of a visit to the university, which is situated on a hill overlooking the city. Its Baroque library contains over 200,000 leather-bound, centuries-old volumes. We then drive to Fátima, an important Catholic pilgrimage site and a national shrine. The large and impressive Sanctuary Complex is well worth exploring. Later we arrive in Lisbon. (B) + Included Experiences – Guided tour of Coimbra University & visit to the shrine of Fatima

DAY 9 – Lisbon

After breakfast, we set out on a guided tour to discover Lisbon’s highlights, many of which have attained the status of UNESCO World Heritage Site. We’ll see the Belém tower, the Moorish quarter Afalma, and Jerónimos Monastery. One of the most magnificent buildings in Europe, the Monastery is a symbol of Portuguese wealth and power during the Age of Discovery. This afternoon is free to explore. DAY 10 – Sintra

We drive to the hillside town of Sintra, whose verdant slopes were memorably described by Byron as a ‘glorious Eden’. The narrow streets of the old town wind their way to the main square where you’ll find the National Palace, a wonderful mix of Gothic and Moorish styles. Today this landmark is a museum with grand rooms and priceless art collections. This afternoon you may choose to remain in Sintra and make your own way to the romantic 19th century Pena Palace. DAY 11 – Return home

Transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK. (B)
