BJĂ–RK: When I was thinking about you, for some reason I remembered an interview I’d read with this one architect. He talked about something he called the “tyranny of the oblivious.â€? He thinks there are two types of creative people — the people who gather ideas, and the people who fall into a state of oblivion and create something out of nothing. He sees himself as a gatherer, and he can’t stand the second group. His theory is that the people who collect ideas feel really threatened by those who create from nothing. That’s what he means by the tyranny of the oblivious. Which group do you think you are in? ALEXANDER: I would be the dreamer.

JENNIFER: When did you start to design clothes? REM: After a few years, I wanted to push the store
forward creatively, so I started making clothes myself. I had never sewn in my life, never made a pattern. I really learned on the job.
JENNIFER: I completely relate to learning as you go. I have interns who know more than me. I don’t know anything about fashion. Imitation of Christ was a project I started just to see how far I could go with it. I never had any training. I went to art school, dropped out, and became an actor. I don’t think of myself as a designer either! REM: Not having any training can be a good thing.
You don’t have preconceived notions about how things should work. That’ s why the ’60s and ’70s were a very precious time for me - I was able to 3$ #- , - %' $ %*$) ' "" ) &' ((*' of being well known.
