5) A self-correction occurs when a child has made and error and corrects it. This selfcorrection is usually evidence that a child is cross-checking one set of cue against another. 6) A repetition is recorded with a line below the repeated segment of text but is NOT scored as an error. Repetitions may be demonstrations that a child is sorting out a point of some confusion, either because something did not make sense or was a difficult word or to gain fluency and meaning. 7) In a child hesitates for longer that 5 seconds because he or she has made an error and does not know how to correct it, or if the child stops and makes no attempts, he or she is told the word.
