RECTANGLEJAUNE New branding: black + yellow contrast, gutsy and dynamic...
Chiclets, powerful branding since 1906!
powerful Branding UHU, the yellow pages, Post-It notes, Kodak, Nikon, National Geographic, Batman, yellow cabs… all chose the yellow color to stand out from the crowd in the dense media jungle.
>words by Adriana Lebbos
Color is everywhere! Although it wasn’t too long ago that we lived in the era of black and white television and film, color has always and will continue to play an important role in our lives. But yellow is something else. Commonly associated with the sun, yellow is bright, striking; it is the color of sunshine, sunflowers, and all else related to the sun. It is a color associated with joy, happiness, intellect and boundless energy. “Some painters transform the sun into a yellow spot; others transform a yellow spot into the sun,” said Pablo Picasso. Bright, pure yellow is an attention getter, which is the reason taxicabs are painted this color. The telephone directory was traditionally annually printed on yellow paper and thus became known as the "yellow pages".
Yellow even got to publishing. Newspaper articles thought to be sensationalized in order to sell more papers are commonly known as Yellow journalism. Ever notice that most warning signs are often a combination of yellow against a black background? The yellow and black combination produces the best contrast compared to any other color. Often chosen to promote children’s products and leisure or entertainment items, yellow evokes a pleasant and cheery disposition in people. Because of yellow’s talent for attracting one’s attention, it is often used to highlight the important elements in your design. We never miss a Nikon cam wrapped around one’s neck, do we? On a more romantic note, try to guess the song titles with yellow in them! ‘Tie a yellow ribbon’, for instance, was long associated with loyalty as the soldier coming back from the war fields writes to his beloved asking her to tie a yellow ribbon on the tree if she wanted him back. Luckily for him, she wrapped all the trees in the neighborhood with yellow ribbons!
Nikon: I am creative power...

The Beatles consisted of John Lennon (rhythm guitar, vocals), Paul McCartney (bass guitar, vocals), George Harrison (lead guitar, vocals) and Ringo Starr (drums, vocals).
They announced that "all you need is love", and there's "something" to be said about being that bold! We've taken a page from the Fab Four, but their "yellow submarine" has nothing on RJ's latest amazing collection. So, "let it be" and, I mean, come on, "hey Jude", let it all hang out and tell your significant other "I wanna hold your hand" and I want RJ this Spring season.
Four decades after their break-up, not a single year passes without an international hit song inspired directly or indirectly from The Beatles. Their musical heritage is still one of the most influential in today's modern pop.
Formed in Liverpool in 1960, and one of the most commercially successful bands in the history of popular music,
..and their influence on Modern Pop: from Yellow Submarine to Yellow Lemon Tree. >words by Ziad Matni, into Beatlemania since 1978...

What's in a chair? Pure lines, organic ones, Louis XV, Bauhaus, pop art... Witness of its times and trend-seater... We worked with delectation on matching the seat to the seated in our special chair review.
The Louis Ghost, 2002
ELEGANCE AND IRONY... A comfortable armchair in Louis XV style, it is the quintessence of revisited baroque. Designed in polycarbonate by Philippe Stark, it is shock and weather resistant despite its evanescent look.

MINIMALIST INDUSTRIAL Fabulous, original and eyecatching are just a few words to describe the beautiful design of the Stacking Stool One by Konstantin Grcic. With anodized aluminum legs and a die-cast aluminum seat, he has constructed a form that's statuesque, elegant and hard to forget.

PLAYFUL AND FUNCTIONAL New materials doing more with less, fascinated Charles & Ray Eames. They adapted manufacturing techniques developed during World War II to mass-produce this enduring design in side and armchair versions. An absolute hit since the fifties!

…Look at the stars, look how they shine for you, And everything you do, yeah they were all yellow, I came along, I wrote a song for you And all the things you do and it was called yellow… “My man gave me roses once. I put them in water and they made a very nice tea…” For most of you out there, romance is either overrated or a thing of the past, but, deep down, aren’t we all still romantic in some way? I know that text messaging took over serenades, but hey! Don’t we all still daydream about flowers from a mystery admirer? Us chicks are as happy with one rose as we are with a dozen (although, let’s face it, a dozen looks a hell of a lot more impressive if you’re delivering to the office where she works). Of course, romance isn’t just a ‘guy thing’ … girls can do it too. It doesn’t have to be expensive or full of grand gestures. A sticky note secretly slipped inside the purse saying ‘I love you’… ‘good morning sunshine’ texted really early on a rainy morning… So where has the romance gone? And no. I am not talking about some fairy tale happily ever after romanceI’m talking about the real romance. The “I promise to love you even though you hate my dog” kind of romance.
Are we really living in such a cynical world that we are already planning the cheating and the divorce before we even start dating? How sad. I for one do not want to live in that world. I’m still one for growing old together. For building a life together. I love the old couples who appear during the interludes in “When Harry Met Sally.” (Yes, I am aware this is a movie...) Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not writing this article to bash on guys and accuse them all of having a lack of romantic expression. I’m sure there are still plenty of men who go above and beyond to sweep a girl off her feet like those hopeless romantic movies where they live happily ever after. Serendipity, Amelie, Pride & Prejudice, August Rush, Sweet Home Alabama to name only a few, all had happy endings. Forrest Gump had a bittersweet happy ending I would say. Jenny died but left us with hope. If life really were like a box of chocolates, I wish mine would all be filled with truffles and finished with mushy caramel topping. I’m not alone in this, am I? A.L.
