Goals are crucial to me in everyday life and my career. My current short-term goals in my career are mainly based around torch control. I am working towards being able to re-tip prongs and set larger stones. Achieving these goals will help me to reach my longterm goals. My long-term goals is to complete a piece of jewelry from start to finish. I want to be able to take a wax mold to metal then the metal to the final piece with all fine details completed by me.

Q21 What participation in extracurricular/community activities are you involve and briefly discuss the importance of these experiences. Outside of working in the jewelry industry I own a farm at home. Any time I am not on the bench I am cleaning stalls, bottle feeding babies, upkeep of vaccines, moving fence and so much more. My family has had a farm since I was born. This is not the kind of farm where we raise animals for food, the 17 goats, 7 chickens, 7 pigs, 4 cows, 3 dogs 2 donkeys, and 2 mini ponies are strictly part of our pet farm. The importance of working on the farm are the virtues I have gained. Working with animals that do not technically speak the same language as I do require completes patience and understanding of the animal. I have learned a different kind of love while helping a goat give birth as well as excitement. Having a pet farm rather than a “farm is food” farm I have learned how to take care of something even if there is not benefit for my side and that is what I find most important.

Q22 From a financial standpoint, what impact would this scholarship have on your continued education? If I am awarded this scholarship, my career path will be impacted in many ways. I will have the confidence of those that awarded this scholarship. I will also have more confidence in myself to reach my goals. Knowing that someone believes in me enough to select me over all the other worthy candidates will help empower me to do the best I can. Success is crucial in my dream to be a standalone bench jeweler. Ambition is important too but having the means to pursue my dream is essential. A more finically privileged person may not comprehend the help of scholarships and financial awards to secure educational success, but I do. I have always had to take care of any education cost on my own. Being awarded this scholarship will give me the push that my career needs to meet my long term goals

Connie,

My name is Mark Darter and I am the Vice President at Krekeler Jewelers, Inc. in O’Fallon, MO. One of my employees, Lexie Warren has applied for a scholarship through the RJO Foundation for which we are a 100 club member. Lexie is a very bright young lady who is excelling at the bench. In just about a year and a half she has become a very important part of my shop and store team. She is already performing at a high level with chain repair and ring sizing, is currently learning prong and channel rebuilds, and she has been integral in our social media and website development as well. She will be attending New Approach School for the second time this summer in order to take the Stone Setting Comprehensive course to further her importance to our business. We would love to see her be able to take advantage of some scholarship money to help with the cost of this.

Sincerely, Mark J. Darter Vice President Krekeler Jewelers, Inc.

Q21 What participation in extracurricular/community activities are you involve and briefly discuss the importance of these experiences. I am a member of the DC Everest Optimist Club. Optimist club creates fundraisers throughout the year to award scholarships to students and youth in the local community. I believe these experiences are very important to show care and community involvement. I also think it is important to give back to the community since the community and people within it are the reason we maintain a successful business. It is also important for the future generations to see others participating in community activities and see how they can benefit and help others.

Q22 From a financial standpoint, what impact would this scholarship have on your continued education? Financially, a scholarship for the gem identification class would expedite the timeframe in which I am able to complete my gemologist graduate program and therefore bring forth the timeframe in which I can better service our jewelry stores and organization as a whole.

Ms. Curtis continually seeks out new learning opportunities to assist her in becoming the best jewelry professional she can be. Her drive for continuous improvement includes her attention to learning more about all of the jewelry products and services that the industry has to offer. Her active engagement in training her entire staff and participating in multiple levels of self education and those provided to her by her company and RJO. Rewarding Ms. Curtis with a scholarship will not only help to fuel her own educations, but it will help to ensure the ongoing mentorship of those associates who report to her at Wickersham Jewelry.

Respectfully,

Nick Nick Failla President, Collected Concepts (586) 354-3600

Q21 What participation in extracurricular/community activities are you involve and briefly discuss the importance of these experiences. In the past, I have participated in "Future Leaders of Jones County", which is a program that teaches leadership and teamwork building skills to young adults. In this program, I had the opportunity to meet with our mayor, governor and other business owners. In the future, I hope to join "Leadership Jones County" to continue to build leadership skills and establish relationships with business owners in our town.

Q22 From a financial standpoint, what impact would this scholarship have on your continued education? If I were to receive this scholarship, I would have the opportunity to finish up my GIA courses and receive my Graduate Gemologist diploma. This diploma would help me move forward in the industry, not only in the store I am currently employed in. I believe this scholarship would not only open up the opportunity for me to receive my Graduate Gemologist diploma but to also take sales trainings and attend seminars without having to stress financially.

March 29, 2022 To Whom It May Concern, This letter is a strong recommendation for Katelyn Yates, who is applying for the RJO Foundation Scholarship Program. I have been Katelyn’s manager for two years while she has trained and worked as a Sales Associate at my store, Hill’s In-House Jewelers. I believe that she deserves this scholarship as it will help her pursue her dream of obtaining her GIA Graduate Gemologist diploma. When Katelyn first began working for me, I had just returned from one of the GIA Lab Classes. She was instantly fascinated with learning more about what GIA had to offer her in the future. Since that time in March 2020, she has been working towards beginning her courses and has finally reached the courage to begin. Katelyn is one of the most brilliant sales associates in our organization. Recently, we have discussed her training for our open management position. Katelyn has drive and takes initiative in everything she does for Hill’s. She always gives 100% of her attention and devotes herself to her work. Katelyn is already a tremendous asset for the jewelry industry on a local platform as she already has a strong passion and dedication for the industry. I believe that if she has a higher degree she will be able to excel in the industry and truly be an asset to anyone she meets. As a hardworking individual, Katelyn does not shy away from a challenge. She has the determination to learn and do anything she puts her mind towards. Katelyn is the type of employee that you brag about to other business owners and wish you could clone. To sum it up, I believe Katelyn is a deserving candidate for the RJO Foundation Scholarship Program - it will be money well-spent and only great things will come from it. Please feel free to contact me if you need any further information regarding Katelyn’s suitability for the program. Sincerely, Cortney D. Hill Owner Hill’s In-House Jewelers 1104 Sawmill Road Laurel, MS 39440 (601) 649-7735 cortney@hillsinhousejewelers.com

Q21 What participation in extracurricular/community activities are you involve and briefly discuss the importance of these experiences. I am involved with a local non-profit soccer club organization. I have been a coach at different levels of competition over the years. I have been on the board for the past 6 years, 4 of which I was the vice president and president. I have volunteered at the local theatre, which is another non-profit organization. I feel it is best to support local organizations and to give back to the community that have helped me over the years. I want to teach my children that you have to work hard in life to get what you want, but also volunteer back to your community that has helped them in ways they don't quite understand. Those things might include the taxes paid by the residents, or random donors that have paid students admissions for a sport event.

Q22 From a financial standpoint, what impact would this scholarship have on your continued education? From a financial standpoint, a scholarship would have a big impact on my current situation. I am eager to complete the GIA courses in a timely manner, but I am also raising a family. I have 2 younger children that we are raising and continuously planning for their college. Everything comes at a cost, but my number one priority is to make sure my kids get a quality education.

Page 4: Short Answer Essay Questions Q20 Briefly explain your long- and short-term goals in regards to your career in the retail jewelry industry. As a young girl,I loved gems and stones and luckily for me I grew up in a family-owned jewelry store that my grandparents opened and my Mom took over. I was able to see first hand the smiles of customers when they purchased new jewelry or restored their family heirlooms. I remember the excitement I felt playing with all of the pretty jewelry we had in the store. Short term, I plan to become a Graduate Gemologist by 2023, as well as network with people while I am at GIA school to help in all different aspects of becoming the third generation business owner in my family. Long term, I want to appraise, design, and either continue our family business or open a store of my own.

Q21 What participation in extracurricular/community activities are you involve and briefly discuss the importance of these experiences. I enjoy birding, hiking, camping, crossfit, and kayaking; they’ve added an outdoor element to my life and I’ve met so many people through these activities which has helped me working in a retail environment as I greatly enjoy working with a wide variety of people. Physical fitness is good for the mind, body and soul and something I greatly enjoy when I am not working or studying.

Q22 From a financial standpoint, what impact would this scholarship have on your continued education? The scholarship would be a tremendous financial relief to myself and my family. I went to West Virginia University and paid for my Bachelor's degree. I am now paying for GIA school and having found my passion I am overjoyed with my decision to pursue being a Graduate Gemologist. Without the scholarship, the financial burden of GIA school will likely set me behind my goals of opening another family store upon my graduation. I greatly appreciate your consideration and am so excited to pursue my passion.
