DECONSTRUCTION RECONSTRUCTION SCIENCE METAL STONE These are just some of the words that begin to describe my wearable art. From early on, I was interested in taking things apart. Sitting at my father’s workbench I would deconstruct almost anything. Then, looking at the parts, I could see that something else entirely was possible to construct using those very same pieces. After many years using this method of breaking apart and reassembling jewelry, I felt the need to take my method further. Studying Metalwork and the Science behind oxidation and patination, I embarked on designing using only raw materials. I found my passion and my process. New York City is my inspiration. Construction sites, cables, pipes, architecture – the whole of The City inspires me and pushes me to create one-of-a-kind pieces. My attitude towards life is decidedly non-conformist. My Art is the same. I believe you should live and wear your Jewelry Out Loud® Artist Jill Herlands works her brand under the moniker MetalurJ.
