Back legs begin growing and the tadpole turns tan and brown. Front legs soon appear and the tail gets shorter as the frog becomes greener.
The adult frog has no tail at all and is now different shades of green and yellow with a white belly. What do you think frogs like to eat?

Did You Hear That?
Dogs can hear sounds that are too faint for us to hear, and also can hear noises at a much higher frequency than we can.
Scientists have discovered that dogs can smell the presence of autism in children.
Show & Tell
Dogs have about 100 different facial expressions, most of them made with the ears.
The Nose Knows
Ancient Egyptians believed worshiped cats were sacred animals.
A dog’s nose has about 4 times as many scent cells as a cat’s and 14 times more than a human’s. That’s why dogs are often used to track down illegal drugs and missing persons.
CommuniCATion is Key
You should talk to your cat often. Cats love to hear the sound of their own name and your voice.
Feline Feelers
A cat uses its whiskers as feelers to determine if a space is too small to squeeze through.
Speaking Our Language
A cat will almost never meow at another cat. Cats use this sound for humans.
Food Beneath Its Wings
ASK MOOCHIE
To survive, every bird must eat at least half its own weight in food each day.
Moochie, Q: Dear Why does my dog love to ride in the car?
Adam
(Fairfield)
Adam, A: Hi The reason your beloved canine companion loves
to take a ride with you and your family is simple: They feel they’re hunting. It’s almost as if you’ve taken a ride on a roller coaster. The sensations you feel are the same that a dog feels...it’s also a sense of weightlessness your dog feels. Us cats prefer to hunt naturally on our own, so most of us prefer not to ride in cars.

Make Your Own Awesome Kite! Materials: e e e e
blank sheet of paper (8.5 x 11) spool of thread hole punch crayons or markers
STEP 4: Cut a 3 ft length of thread and tie each end through the holes on each side. Carefully find the middle of the thread and use a simple over-hand knot to tie a loop in the center. Try to be exact!
STEP 1: Turn paper sideways and fold both sides to the middle.
STEP 2: Punch a hole close to the edge in the center of the middle section, at the bottom. Punch a hole on the left and right sides, near the edge, 3-4 inches from the top of the paper.
STEP 5: Take 6-8 feet of the curling ribbon and fold it in half. Tie an overhand knot near the fold to make a loop. Push the loop through the hole in the bottom of the kite, then insert the ends of the ribbon through the loop. Pull all the way through until the loop cinches tight.
STEP 3: Use crayons or markers to decorate your kite any way you like. Funny faces, cool designs, it’s up to you! YOUR KITE IS DONE! Tie the end of the thread from the spool to the thread loop on the kite. Find a place with a steady, gentle breeze or run a little bit to make it fly. Watch the trees! LIFE is Fun! The Dentist Appointment
by Denise Kuzela
“I have to go to Dr. Jenson's after class," Charlie said in a sad voice.

harlie wasn’t too happy about what he had to do after school.
It was time for his check-up at the dentist office. He hated going to the dentist.
Dr. Jenson’s office. He stared at the clock nervously. “Charlie, is something wrong,” his best friend Helen asked.
“I have to go to Dr. Jenson’s after class,” The only things he enjoyed were reading he said in a sad voice. and playing with the toys in the waiting “It’ll be ok, Charlie. Have you been room. “If you have, your visit will be no problem,” Helen said reassuringly. She understood
what Charlie was worried about. Helen had to visit the dentist a month earlier.
“I sure hope you’re right, Helen.” The bell rang and class begun. Class was enjoyable, but it wasn’t a class Charlie was too excited about. He had difficulty learning a new language. English sometimes was hard enough, and he felt it was unnecessary to learn Spanish, too. However, his teacher Ms. Hernandez was a fun teacher, so despite his difficulty, he still had fun. It also made him take his mind off the dentist visit. “Hóla, los estudiantes,” said Ms. Hernandez. “Hóla, Señora Hernandez,” replied the class. “Today I brought a snack for everyone. Has anyone ever had an empañada?
It’s a pie folded in half and filled with any type of fruit filling you’d like. Who’s hungry?” she asked. The class cheered. Only on Friday’s did Ms. Hernandez bring snacks in for the class. It made Charlie forget all about the dentist. Unfortunately forty minutes later, the bell rang signaling the end of class. Charlie packed up his books and went to the area in the front of the school were the parents picked up their children. His mom met him by the front doors and he gave her a huge hug. “Hi, mom.” “Hi, honey. How was school?” his mom asked. “It was fine. We had em-pa-na-das in Spanish class. They’re folded up fruit pies.”

“Charlie, you may go back now to chair number 2.”
His mom laughed. She knew a little about Spanish from meeting with Ms. Hernandez during a student-teacher conference. “I believe you mean empa-nya-da. But those sound great! Did you brush your teeth afterwards?” “Yea, ma. I wish I didn’t have the dentist appointment today.” “You always have great trips to Dr. Jenson’s, Charlie. I don’t understand why you get so worried. “ “I guess so. I don’t like them poking around my mouth, though.” “I understand, Charlie, but we all have to go through it. If anything was wrong, they could catch it in time and fix it before it gets worse. That’s what all doctors do, and that’s why 22

we always have to make sure we visit them regularly.” Charlie shrugged and followed his mom back to the car.
The ride to the doctor’s office was silent as Charlie contemplated his fate. He imagined the worst – his teeth would have to be pulled out, he had a cavity or two, the dental assistant would be rough with his gums. They went into the building and signed their name and Charlie picked up a book to read while waiting for his name to be called, but before he had a chance to flip to the first page, Margie the Secretary said to him, “Charlie, you may go back now to chair number 2.”
