Downtown Rogers Initiative Takes Off
D
owntown Rogers has been buzzing with business activity over the past few years, but in 2015 things have started to really take off including the Downtown Rogers Initiative which began last year as a collaborative effort between the Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Rogers, along with other groups and leaders in the community. In the city Where Possible Lives, there is a lot happening. The new
Downtown Master Plan is rolling out, buildings are being renovated, homes and apartments are being built, parks and trails are under construction, and overall business is booming. Already in 2015 there have been several new businesses opening doors in Downtown including Parkside Public, Rush Running, and GPP Cycling. From its brick streets to Lake Atalanta and beyond there is an new energy around Downtown Rogers, one that has not been felt in a long time.
In The News
Downtown Rogers made regional news in July when it was announced that the Historic Lane Hotel had been purchased by members of the Walton Family. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1988 and has been vacant since 2003. Paul Gatling, who originally broke the story for the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal, reported that the 42,000 square-foot hotel was purchased for $1.6 million. No official plans have been announced Continued on Page 3...

...Continued from Page 1 for the building, but Rogers’ residents are excited about the possibilities. It isn’t just the Historic Lane Hotel that is set to get a facelift in Downtown. Several other buildings are either undergoing or preparing for renovations. John Mack with JKJ Architects is renovating the old Dixieland Shoe building and Opera House on the corner of Walnut and 1st Streets. The Design Center and Harris Baking buildings have also been purchased this year by area investors who are interested in investing in the future of Downtown. The restaurant scene is also experiencing a boom in Downtown. In the last year, two new restaurants have opened, Levi’s Gastrolounge and Lowbar and Parkside Public to massive public approval. With business growth like this, residential growth is expected to follow. There are several homes around the Downtown area that are either under construction or renovation. Rogers Mayor Greg Hines has said in the past that he is committed to Downtown and has literally put his money where his mouth is as his family is building a home in Downtown. It isn’t just homes that are being built, but new apartments as well. First Western Bank is renovating a building on 1st St. to house four new apartments designed by John Mack. First Western Bank Chairman/CEO John T. Hampton said, “We are extremely excited about the great things that are happening and are going to happen here and these apartments are one way we can be involved in bringing more people to live, work and play in Downtown Rogers.”
Improving Quality of Life
Business and housing growth continue to do well, and public projects are also taking place in and around Downtown to improve the quality of life for citizens. Tips for Success | Exhibiting at Expos and Trade Shows
T
he 2015 NWA Business Expo is right around the corner on August 11 at the John Q. Hammons Convention Center in Rogers from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm. There will be businesses of all sizes from across the region showcasing their goods and services and we hope you join us. When asked, most business people will tell you that the primary purpose of participating in a business expo or trade show is to generate more business leads and sales. Having taken part in running several business expos and participating in many of them myself here at the Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber, let me share three key tips that I’ve personally seen work well to help you maximize your expo and trade show experience and results.
Don’t Just Sit in Your Exhibit Booth
The first tip is network, network, and more networking. Your potential customers are not just the people attending the expo and walking by your booth. Your next great sales lead could be a business that is three booths down or across the hall. Don’t just sit in your booth and let people come to you. Be social, explore the expo floor and talk to the other exhibitors. As with any event, there are ebbs
and flows to foot traffic. Take advantage of those up on them. Wayne Gretzky once said, “You miss slower traffic times and talk to the other businesses. 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.” While that is true for sports, it is also true for business. If Show a Genuine Interest in People you don’t follow up on the leads and contacts you The second tip is to be approachable. During have gained, there is a 100 percent chance you the time you are at your exhibit booth you should will miss out on those opportunities. take the chance to interact with everyone walking If you have not already purchased your by. Follow Up to Build Relationships
The third tip is follow through. Just because you don’t make a sale the day of the expo or trade show does not mean it was a bad day. People aren’t there to make immediate purchase decisions for the most part, but rather to see what options are out there and build relationships. Take the business cards you have gathered and follow

Rogers Little Theater Is Now Arkansas Public Theatre
July 30 | 2015 – The Rogers Little Theater Boards of Directors and Producers announced in June a rebranding initiative that includes changing the name of the organization to Arkansas Public Theatre at the historic Victory Theater in Downtown Rogers. The Creative Management Committee, Board of Directors and Board of Producers decided it was time Rogers Little Theater chose a moniker that truly speaks to the inclusiveness and strength in a well-populated landscape of nonprofits - the importance of a community theater’s transformative role in the lives of those who share in its experience. In a nod to the past and beautiful location in which Arkansas Public Theatre resides the APT identity will include – At the Victory. APT is honored to have the continued support of our community, the City of Rogers and Mayor Greg Hines as it continues to grow and expand its audience and donor base. That support allows APT to continue to bring the arts to all ages. Now going into its 30th year, APT is Arkansas’ Public Theater, producing classic, cutting edge, and fresh from Broadway plays, musicals and special events at the historic Victory Theater in Downtown Rogers. Over 20,000 audience members have attended productions during the past two seasons. With a large subscription base and funding support from some of the area’s most prominent businesses, foundations and community groups, Arkansas Public Theatre continues to be a vibrant part of the region. Arkansas Public Theatre is a 501(c)(3) taxexempt organization.
Beaver Water District Releases Annual H2O Report
July | 2015 – Beaver Water District’s annual H2O Report provides information about the quality of your drinking water and the water quality in Beaver Lake. For more than half a century, Beaver Water District has pumped water from Beaver Lake and then cleaned, purified and sold that water at economical prices (currently the wholesale price of $1.26 per thousand gallons) to Fayetteville, Springdale, Rogers and Bentonville. These cities then resell the water to their customers. While Beaver Lake’s raw water quality varies throughout the year, the drinking water that is pumped to your home must be of consistent quality at all times. For a copy of the report visit BWDH2O.org.
Walton Arts Center’s Main Building Closes for Construction
