R

ogers Experimental House (RXH) is a cooperative platform for creative activity, incubating contributions to the cultural fabric of Northwest Arkansas by collaborating on an array of services, material resources, and learning opportunities for artists, designers, entrepreneurs and the local community. After much anticipation, Rogers Experimental House has announced the location for their creative space, 121 W. Walnut St. on the bricks in Downtown Rogers. For the next eight months, the first floor will be used to pilot a pop-up location supporting various creative activities, projects, and community initiatives. The long-term goal of the Rogers Experimental House is to build a community-accessible resource for people to create, inspire and learn.

Community Creative Studio Opens for Makers of All Kinds

About the Building The historic structure was built in 1912 and for many years supported retail on the ground floor and the Elks Lodge upstairs. Most recently the building was occupied by an architectural and engineering firm but has sat empty for nearly a decade. While others may see an old building, RXH Board President Dayton Castleman sees 6,000 square feet of potential.

...Continued from Page 1 “I came to Northwest Arkansas to help shape the rapidly transforming art and culture landscape, and I noticed how difficult it was to access certain services, tools and specialized studios that I’d taken for granted in larger urban areas with more developed art and creative environments,” Castleman said. “I’d like to see that access grow in our area because it’s an important component of a healthy creative ecosystem. I want to attract artists and entrepreneurs to Rogers, and help make it a hub for people who make things.” The RXH plans to feature various specialized art studios, art classes, co-work spaces, and areas for 3-D printing. They have a partnership planned with GPP Cycling to develop a bicycle repair clinic to teach people how to repair and maintain their bicycles. The organization, a 501 (c) (3) corporation, envisions for the future a permanent location close to Downtown Rogers that includes a commercial kitchen space, computer, art and technology studios and wood and metal shop spaces, to name a few. More about RXH Two of the five RXH board members have experience developing makerspaces in other cities such as Chicago, Philadelphia, and Rome, Georgia. RXH currently has three public art/mural projects in the works that will involve students from Rogers high schools, with one of the murals appearing at the Rogers Activity Center skateboard park. How You Can Help The RXH launched a crowd source funding campaign on Indiegogo.com to raise $12,000 and begin the creative offerings. To maximize the potential of the temporary space, RXH has some immediate financial needs. Members of the community who are willing to partner with RXH and donate time, talent and financial items or services such as art supplies and equipment, work tables, supplies for painting murals, 3-D printing materials, etc. will be recognized by name with a 3-D printed hexagonal tile on an ever-growing mosaic honeycomb donor wall. For more information, contact the Rogers Experimental House by phone at (479) 2028631, follow them on Facebook at facebook. com/rogersxhouse or visit their website at experimentalhouse.com.

Introducing Hustle in Heels: Ladies Lead NWA Program

T

he Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce the new Hustle in Heels: Ladies Lead NWA program. Designed for professional business women in Northwest Arkansas, this new program will offer business and personal networking and programs that are audience driven on topics, discussions, and formats. A committee chaired by Carrie Wilson from Mass Mutual Finacnial Group and made up of members of the Small Business Council, Chamber staff, and member volunteers met in July to review the results of a recent online survey and initiate the first steps in creating this new program. Launching 2018 The full details of the program are still a work in progress. Discussions in the first meeting focused on not just recreating what similar groups are currently doing or have done well in the past, but also bringing new and fresh ideas to life. Committee members are aiming to create an atypical networking and development program that will put new twists on the “tried and true” networking formats. The committee will continue to meet monthly throughout 2017 with the first Hustle in Heels program to launch in the first quarter of 2018.

How to Stay Up-to-Date A kick-off event/launch party is being planned for November to officially announce the new program and release details of the 2018 schedule. Keep an eye out for upcoming Chamber Voice

articles, eNews Monday Memo announcements, and the Chamber’s social media for updates about Hustle in Heels and launch party details. If you have any questions about this new program please contact Steve Cox at steve@rogerslowell.com.

Northwest Arkansas Home to Three Fortune 500 Companies

T

he 2016 Fortune 500 Largest U.S. Corporations list was recently released and Northwest Arkansas again had three companies on the list headquartered here. While many on the list have offices in our area, Walmart Stores, Tyson Foods, Inc., and J.B. Hunt Transport, Inc. have their main corporate offices in our area. Walmart topped the list as the largest U.S. corporation, repeating its ranking from the 2015 list. Tyson Foods is ranked number 82 while J.B. Hunt moved up nine spots from 2015 to number 407 this year.

Northwest Arkansas has benefited greatly by having these world-class companies headquartered here. Raymond Burns, President/CEO of the Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce, said, “It is no coincidence that Northwest Arkansas is growing along with these industry leaders. The corporate leadership these companies provide, the talent they bring in, and the many support businesses in our area continue to make Northwest Arkansas one of the top places to live and work in the country and the world.”

O

Business Partnerships: A Vital Part of Career and Technical Education (CTE) Programs

ver the past three years, the Rogers Public Schools Career & Technical Education (CTE) department has increased its number of business partnerships with local businesses, industries, non-profit and civic organizations. These partnerships have proven to be a vital part of the continued improvement of the district’s career and technical programs and alignment with current and projected workforce demands within both Rogers and the surrounding Northwest Arkansas region. The Rogers Public Schools CTE department is grateful to the businesses, industry and community partners for their participation in the Career & Technical Advisory Councils, classroom and school presentations, career conferences, facility tours, parent and student events, and career fairs. It’s also appreciative of the opportunities for teachers to participate in local business conferences and networking

events sponsored by the Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce. The department would like to extend a special thank you to Central States Manufacturing and Multi-Craft Contractors who participated in the Modern-Day Workplace Training and Teacher Internship program, which was a collaborative endeavor with the Arkansas Economic Development Council (ADEC) and the Arkansas Department of Career Education. The ADEC provided training related to Lean 101 and Six Sigma practices that introduced teachers to strategies used within the modern workplace designed to create an efficient work environment. The CTE department looks forward to the upcoming school year and the continued work with existing partnerships, as well as opportunities to establish new partnerships that will help build capacity within the CTE programs. Partnerships with local business and

industry help develop and offer educational and training programs that focus on the skill sets that align with each respective business/ industry certification requirements and workforce demands.
