INTRODUCTION from the RLC SVP of Marketing Communications

BRAD@rogerslowell.com

Welcome to the August Chamber Voice:

We’re halfway through the year! I think you’ll enjoy this issue of the Chamber Voice magazine. It will help you stay up to date on everything Chamber. Here are some of my favorite stories that highlight how we’re serving business and community together:

Our Cover Story: On July 12 our President and CEO, Raymond Burns, and Rogers Lowell Chamber Staff, attended the press conference announcing and welcoming United Soccer League (USL) Arkansas to Rogers.

• USL Arkansas is committed to developing a 5,000+ seat multipurpose stadium nestled in the heart of the Pinnacle Hills entertainment district.

• What they’re saying: “The Rogers Lowell Chamber is happy to welcome USL Professional Soccer to Rogers and NWA. This rounds out our sports and entertainment amenities and will help us attract world class talent for our world class companies,” said Burns.

Getting back to school: August means it’s time for the school year to start again. We’re getting ready to welcome back our teachers, staff, and students:

• Thanking teachers and staff: On August 10, we’re celebrating our annual Thank-A-Teacher Celebration. This year we’re including ALL staff from teachers and administrators to janitorial staff. When it comes to education it truly takes a village. It’s important we recognize everyone helping our students attain a good education.

• Changing lives: That’s what the Community-Based Scholarship Program is doing. It’s administered through a partnership of the Rogers Lowell Chamber, the Rogers Development Foundation, and the Rogers Public Schools. These scholarships increase access to higher education for graduating high school students and open doors to career opportunities that are otherwise not possible. Read the full story on page 33.

Check out these stories, too:

Learn how Hustle in Heels gave back to women in need with their feminine hygiene drive at Columbus House Brewing. Meet our Ambassador of the Second Quarter. Find out what’s happening in our community in our popular “Focus on Community” feature section. Here are a couple of stories this issue:

• Recognition grows for local coffee shop.

• Ozark Regional announces new & improved services in Rogers.

Dig Deeper: Our staff works hard to curate and tell stories from our community and members. Reading this monthly digital magazine helps you stay connected. We hope you enjoy this issue.

Rogers Welcoming

USL Arkansas to NWA

USL Arkansas (United Soccer League) is bringing men’s and women’s pro teams to Rogers and will build a 5,000-seat stadium. The teams will be the state’s first professional soccer club and are expected to start playing in their respective leagues in 2026. The men’s team is expected to begin playing before the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States, while the women’s team will start after it.

• The site for its state-of-the-art sports venue at the corner of W. Green Acres Rd. & S. 41st St. will be rezoned under the Uptown Commercial Mixed Use (U-COM) and Uptown Entertainment (U-ENT) classifications. This paves the way for construction of a much-anticipated sports facility that received approval for rezoning during the City of Rogers Planning Commission meeting on July 18.

• While the preliminary estimate is about $15 million, a more definitive cost is expected during the design process. The stadium will be a modular facility allowing flexibility based on market needs and may also be used for community events, concerts, graduations, or high school sports.

Chamber Voice OF BUSINESS MAGAZINE 6

Backgrounder: Soccer is the world’s most popular sport with 3.5 billion fans worldwide, and the 2026 World Cup will hold games in North America, including drive markets Dallas, Kansas City and Houston.

• Why it matters: A soccer-centric stadium will turn an international eye onto the NWA metro. Travelers will be visiting Rogers, many for the first time, to attend future USL games.

The big picture: Professional sports teams are keystones of destination development. Here are some of the benefits:

• Economic Development: Through investment, payroll, local revenues and infrastructure improvements.

• Community Development: Through partnerships, youth programs, non-profit outreach, and public awareness.

• Tourism Impact: Through lodging and restaurant revenue that support jobs, draw additional amenities, and create new employment and career opportunities.

By the numbers: Since its inception USL teams and stadiums have resulted in over $6 billion in economic impact.

Each USL team and stadium generate between $50-$200 million in economic impact each year depending on the market.

Bottom line: Professional soccer is a big win for Rogers and Northwest Arkansas, adding to the growing list of reasons to live, work and play in our region.

Downtown Rogers Economic Development

Backgrounder: In 2014 and 2015 the City of Rogers worked with elected officials, community leaders, Downtown Rogers stakeholders and the Rogers Lowell Chamber to create the Downtown Rogers Initiative Plan. This document, combined with a community assessment for the Chamber Vision 2030, provided vision and inspiration to invest and reinvest in the core of our city.

Since that time, the Chamber has used 2016 as a benchmark to track capital improvements on Downtown commercial property including that owned by city government, schools, the Rogers Historical Museum and all other commercial property, including multi-family. The numbers are based on the figures found in the City of Rogers Monthly Building Reports.

Community-Based Scholarship Program Changing Lives

Since 1991 the Rogers Development Foundation, in partnership with Rogers Public Schools and the Chamber, has served as the scholarship administrator for graduating high school seniors through the Community-Based Scholarship Program (CBSP).

Why it matters: Education is one of the powerful pillars of success for our strong and vibrant Rogers-Lowell area community, making our CBSP program an essential key to opening doors to higher education opportunities.

Measuring impact: Since its inception, through the generous support of our donors, CBSP has distributed $8,847,513to 5,252 students in the Rogers Public Schools.

Community-based scholarships impact lives: We’re increasing access to higher education for graduating high school students and opening doors to career opportunities otherwise not possible.

Inspiring future donors: Participation in the scholarship program demonstrates and inspires philanthropy as past student recipients have shown to be more likely themselves to “give back” to the community. By giving a little, our community donors make a big difference in the lives of others.

An investment in our community: Scholarships are a strategic investment that empowers families and communities, returning value for a lifetime.

You can make a difference: Become a scholarship partner by contacting the Scholarship Coordinator with Rogers Public Schools at (479) 636-3910.

Washington Regional’s Emergency Department Earns Lantern Award

The first in the state: to earn this award, Washington Regional’s Emergency Department was also one of only 53 departments to be recognized in the world.

• The department has 37 beds and serves nearly 55,000 patients each year from across the NWA region.

How it works: the Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) awards emergency departments the Lantern Award based on applications they receive that exemplify these values:

• Leadership - Practice/Operations

• Advocacy

• Research

Qualification: Departments must answer both qualitative and quantitative questions to ensure they qualify for the distinction.

What they’re saying: The Emergency Department’s Danita Mullins, RN, said: ‘The Washington Regional emergency department team is honored to receive this award. This achievement shows our team members’ dedication to their patients and to fulfilling Washington Regional’s vision of being the best place for our patients to receive care and the best place for our staff to provide that care.”

How we’re getting NextGen leaders activated & engaged

What we do: RLC fosters up-and-coming leaders to prepare them for challenges and opportunities facing Northwest Arkansas.

• Why it matters: Our programming develops leadership skills and competencies, provides education on local community issues and resources, and gives hands-on experience applying learnings in the real world. The result is a source of diverse leaders for NWA.

• Making an impact: These leaders serve as catalysts for positive change and sustainers of our region’s quality of life.

Chamber Voice OF BUSINESS MAGAZINE 36
Members of the 2023 class of Leadership Benton County Visit the State’s Capitol

How we do it: We’re preparing and activating leaders for the future through three different programs.

• Arvest First Leadership invests in the future of our community by providing an innovative, studentfocused program promoting personal growth and leadership development opportunities.

• Leadership Benton County provides leadership training specific to the regional issues facing the county and serves as the Chamber’s training ground for future leaders.

• NWA Emerging Leaders is offered to dedicated professionals actively engaged in the Northwest Arkansas community. The program develops candidates for public and private boards, commissions and leadership opportunities and gets individuals ready to serve and lead our growing and diverse regional community.

What’s next: We’ve offered these programs for years to encourage young up-and-coming leaders to get involved with the Chamber and our community. This year, we’ve focused on how we make all our programs and initiatives attractive to these next generation of leaders.

• By inviting NextGen with personal communications to engage and participate in our events.

• By widening our NextGen appeal with the development of new programs and adjusting existing ones based upon their feedback.

• By conducting sessions with our NextGen Taskforce. This helps lead and guide the Chamber on upand-coming business and community issues that our younger generations are facing and shows them how we can help be a resource to address solutions.
