Conventions Magazine as one of the BEST KEYNOTE SPEAKERS in the nation. Author of the One-Minute Manager, Ken Blanchard, says “Tommy Spaulding is one of the most talented speakers in the country. I can’t recommend anyone more highly for your organization.”

ARE YOU A HEART-LED LEADER? Did you know 18 Inches is the distance from your head to your heart? Such a short distance, yet most leaders never take the journey. Leaders and organizations that lead with their hearts are more successful and achieve better results than those that don’t. In Tommy’s keynote he shows that love and results are not opposites, they are two sides of the same coin. It is not love or results - it is love driven results. If you love what you do, if you love the people you do it with, if you love your culture, if you love your mission, if you love your team, if you love your customers- you will achieve better results. Heart-Led leadership transcends numbers and spreadsheets. It is more sustainable and more rewarding. During this keynote, Tommy teaches us that defining your leadership philosophy is one of the most important steps you can take as a leader, an organization and for your life. Being a Heart-Led leader will change

your life and your organization. New York Times best-selling author Tommy Spaulding, one of America’s greatest storytellers, will share stories and leadership lessons of Heart-Led leaders that inspire all of us to live and lead differently.

L

egislative retirements and rematches are the theme for this year’s Republican primary. Representative Dan Douglas (District 91), and Rebecca Petty (District 94) announced they are not seeking re-election in 2020, opening those seats for multiple Republican challengers. Representative Jana Della Rosa (District 90) will also face multiple challengers, one of them having run against her in 2018.

DISTRICT 90 Rogers Republican State Representative Jana Della Rosa is seeking her fourth term in the House. She is one of the most battle-tested candidates in the General Assembly having survived multiple challengers in past elections. This year will be no different as she has drawn multiple challengers again in the Republican Primary. Kendon Underwood of Cave Springs, who lost to Della Rosa in the 2018 election, and Rogers resident Chris Latimer will be joining the race this year. The winner of this race will also face a General Election opponent in November.

2.

DISTRICT 91 Representative Dan Douglas has been a reliable friend to the Northwest Arkansas business community during his time in the House. The Bentonville Republican announced his retirement from the Legislature and will not be seeking re-election this year. Longtime Benton County resident, Delia Haak, has announced her intention to succeed Douglas. Scott Richardson has also announced for the seat, having already run for the seat and losing to Dan Douglas in 2018. Jorge Becker of Centerton has also announced her intention to run for the seat. The winner of this race will also face a General Election opponent in November.

DISTRICT 94 Republican Representative Rebecca Petty surprised a lot of people when she announced that she will not seek re-election in 2020. Her retirement leaves the primary open for two Rogers Republicans who will be seeking the seat. Adrienne Woods and John Carr are newcomers who will be squaring off in the March 3 primary.

T

he Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce’s Member Engagement Committee was started four years ago to support members and help them get the most out of their membership. In November, the committee welcomed 18 new volunteers and a new chairman. With a total of 23 volunteers, the committee has an enthusiastic goal to visit 400 Chamber members in 2020. Something new this year is a committee mentor leadership role filled by Kerry Jensen who served as chairman for the past two years. Kerry will mentor the volunteers and help with ongoing volunteer training. The committee is supported by sponsors including Keri Earwood Shelter Insurance and Printova Signs & Graphics. “Member volunteers who are passionate about helping others grow their organizations and building our community are the fabric of this committee,” said Servpro’s Brian Devecsery, 2020 Committee Chairman and Ambassador. “We meet with member businesses and nonprofits, explaining how to maximize their Chamber benefits. During these visits, firsthand experiences are shared, and community relationships are built.” The committee launched a new web page this month on RogersLowell.com featuring its volunteers. The page will also share member visits and success stories throughout the year. Tacos 4 Life is sponsoring lunch for the January meeting and will speak to the committee about their catering options and involvement in the community. For more information about the Member Engagement Committee, contact Brian Devecsery at (479) 790-4088 or Marni Rogers at (479) 619-3194.

Member Engagement Committee Introduces New Volunteers, Leadership and Web Page

The new Member Engagement Committee Webpage

The Member Engagement Committee is a voluntary group focused on connecting members with other members to help increase their exposure and customer base, informing members how to maximize investment to foster growth in their business and community, engaging members by visiting staff and showing opportunities that best suits their organization, and supporting members through mentoring and being a trusted business resource.

The vision of the committee is a membership community where all members are informed, connected, engaged, and feel supported. We never want a member to miss an opportunity that could help their organization because they were not informed or miss a referral opportunity because of not being connected.

Rogers Public Schools Committed to Expanding Learning and Career Opportunities

T

here is a tremendous commitment by the Rogers Public Schools Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers to provide relevant and engaging learning experiences within their classrooms. CTE teachers at both the middle and high school levels are preparing students for successful careers by equipping them with both the knowledge and skills that they will need within a broad range of career fields, while also assisting students in developing a career pathway that will help them reach their career goals.

LEARNING BEYOND THE CLASSROOM In addition to the amazing contributions that the CTE teachers bring to their classrooms, they also seek opportunities to provide authentic learning experiences beyond the classroom. Educational research denotes that a significant factor in a student’s decision to pursue a certain career is based on a personal experience with a specific job and/or career field. From job shadowing experiences and career-related field trips in middle school to industry tours, internships, youth apprenticeships and career/ work related learning experiences with local businesses, CTE teachers work diligently to make meaningful connections between the classroom and the career field for each of their students.

INTRODUCING YOUNG LADIES TO CONSTRUCTION-RELATED CAREERS The Fall semester was filled with many opportunities for students in the Rogers Public Schools to participate in career-related events designed to increase awareness of career programs offered in the district, as well as career opportunities available within the local area. One of these programs was the 3rd Annual Girls In

Construction Conference held on November 14 at NWACC (pictured below, right). The goal of the conference was to introduce young ladies to career opportunities in construction-related career fields. Students from each of the middle schools in Rogers were joined by high school students from Bentonville. The conference featured several women currently working in construction-related jobs (within local construction companies) as guest speakers and/ or break-out session presenters at the conference. The women shared information about their career paths that lead them to a career in construction, advice for young women interested in pursuing a career in construction, and stories about the challenges and successes of working in what is often termed a “non-traditional career” for women. Students were also provided an opportunity to visit a construction site, a renovation site and a completed construction site within the local area to view different types of construction phases and projects.

industry expertise to provide students with 21st century skills necessary to create technology for social good. Through a standards-aligned, engaging curriculum, students are introduced to the innovation lifecycle, product prototyping, and industry-relevant entrepreneurial skills. The program ends with a high energy, idea-pitching culmination event. TCS employees serve as role models during the program by mentoring students, providing industry context and real-world connections. goIT has become the largest industry engagement Computer Science education program for students in U.S. and Canada. goIT empowers future innovators to use technology for good. Networking is the Most Inexpensive Way to Promote Your Business

B

y investing your time to meet with other businesspeople and discovering how you can help them and they can help you, you develop relationships that will provide great rewards in the future. This is a free event, held every month from 7:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m., that offers business representatives an opportunity to network with

Business-to-Business (B2B) quarterly events (four luncheons in 2020) enable business representatives to advertise, sell and “speed network” with other businesses all in one networking event. Here’s how it works. Six people are seated at a table and each participant has two minutes to promote his/her products and services. Participants are then rotated to other tables for additional networking. Networkers get the most out of the event by bringing brochures, business cards, product samples and promotional items to hand out or display at their table. Register at RogersLowell.com before January 10 for your B2B VIP status. The registration fee is only $100 which includes four quarterly networking events in 2020 and exhibit space at your choice of two of the events during the year (if you purchase before January 10). You also can purchase exhibit space at the other two events during the year at a discounted rate.

VIPs have special check-in at each event making it fast and convenient. Special name badges identify your business as a VIP and you are introduced and given a chance to speak to the entire networking group at each event.
