The New Railyard Bike Park |

Contributes to NWA’s Transformation into a Cycling Destination

A cyclist tests the new Railyard Bike Park in Downtown Rogers

T

here’s nothing like it anywhere else in Arkansas. The new, dirt jump bike park in Downtown Rogers, funded in part by The Walton Family Foundation and connected to the Lake Atalanta trail system, opens with a Grand

Opening and Ribbon Cutting on November 7. The bike park will be yet another piece of the puzzle in furthering Northwest Arkansas’ transformation into a cycling destination. Located only blocks from the Arkansas-Missouri railroad, the park is called “The Rail-

yard” and features wall rides, whale tales and concrete lips. The park is designed to accommodate riders of all different skill-levels and different types of bicycles. It will be open day and night; the city is also installing lighting and building a pavilion and parking lot. Continued on Page 3...

...Continued from Page 1 Progressive Trail Design (PTD), a Fayettevillebased company was contracted to build the park. “A park like this is a game changer for the community,” said Nathan Woodruff, founder and owner of PTD. His brother, Clayton Woodruff, also of PTD, added, “We tried to create a full scale bike park here for all users, all progressions, from beginners to experts. It serves everything from striders, to full suspension bikes, to dirt jumpers, to BMX. Probably the biggest, most signature piece here is a full-scale rail car that you ride through - it will be on real railroad tracks.” The new bike park is expected to draw people from outside the region, especially for the types of events that can be held at the venue. But it will also provide an opportunity for play for local residents. The Railyard is a great place for kids and teenagers to hang out, doing something healthy outdoors while also offering an adventure and exercise for adults. “Trails and bike infrastructure like this new bike park in Rogers are important not only to our quality of life, but also for economic development in the region,” said Misty Murphy, Regional Trails Coordinator at the Northwest Arkansas Council. The Grand Opening is November 7 at 10:00 a.m. and will be attended by Mayor Hines and other city dignitaries. Andrea Brinton, Director of the Parks Department for the City of Rogers, told the Chamber Voice there will be demo riders, food trucks, short trails rides and other fun activities to celebrate the opening.

2015 Fall Job Fair Attracts Over 700 Job Seekers in Rogers

T

he Northwest Arkansas Job Fairs (held Spring and Fall in Rogers) are the largest and longest running annual job fairs in Arkansas. The 2015 Northwest Arkansas Fall Job Fair on October 7 was presented by WorkSource NTS and Glad Manufacturing and hosted by the Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce at the Frisco Station Mall in Rogers. This year’s fall event attracted over 700 job seekers and featured 53 employers. Steve Cox, Vice-President of Economic Development, said the 700 attendees nearly

doubled the number from the spring event and that the new location at Frisco Station Mall on Walnut St. in Rogers was well received by both job seekers and employers. “This was a nice central location for the job fair, complete with a bus stop out front for easy access,” he said. “The Arkansas Department of Workforce Services also has an office in the mall, so many job seekers were already familiar with the site,” he added. The annual spring and fall job fairs are free and open to job seekers who are encouraged

to bring their resumes to hand out to prospective employers exhibiting at the fair. At the job fairs, job seekers are able to meet one-on-one with local Human Resource professionals at the Job Seekers’ Resource Room staffed with local human resources professionals and representatives from local organizations that know what it takes to get the right job. “When you look around and see all the help wanted signs, you know that companies are hiring. Our goal was to help connect people who need jobs to these opportunities,” said Cox.

What is the Small Business Council? | Call for 2016 Applications

T

he Small Business Council (SBC) of the Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce was formed in 2005. It is made up of volunteers who either own their own business or work for small businesses in the area. The purpose of the Small Business Council (SBC) is to be the voice of the small business community and provide guidance to Chamber staff on the needs of the small business community within Northwest Arkansas. The SBC’s mission statement is: Promoting sustainable

growth for small business through awareness, diversity, and education. The twenty member council meets on the first Thursday of each month to talk about the needs of the small business community, nominate and select a small business of the month and small business of the year, develop business education programming for Chamber University, and discuss and help implement small business programs for the Chamber. Members also help facilitate and run the bi-monthly Member Orien-

tations held at the Chamber offices. This gives the SBC opportunities to get to know new members and help share the vision of the Chamber. Those wishing to serve on the SBC must complete an application and be approved by a combination of Chamber staff and the executive committee of the SBC. The term of service starts in January 2016 and goes through December. If you are interested in learning more about the SBC or would like to serve contact Steve Cox at Steve@RogersLowell.com for an application.

“Promoting sustainable growth for small business through awareness, diversity, and education.”

B2B Networking Breakfast November 18 | Final B2B of 2015

J

oin us for breakfast at the last Business-toBusiness (B2B) networking event of the year on November 18 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Fast Lane Entertainment in Lowell. B2B is one of the Chamber’s most popular networking events and a great opportunity to represent your company, advertise to new prospects and sell your products and services to other businesses. If you’ve never attended before, this is your last chance this year.

Discover Speed Networking

Here’s how it works. Each attendee has two minutes to market their business to other business professionals seated at their table during the round-robin event. Participants will then switch to another table of six people, twice, providing even more opportunities to make new connections. There is an average of 50 to 80 people who register to attend each quarterly event. That’s a lot of speed networking! To get the most out of your networking, bring brochures, business cards, product samples and promotional items to hand out and display at your tables. Ticket prices include meal, featured speaker pre-

sentation, round-robin speed networking, company marketing and a chance to win great door prizes. Register before the event for just $20 for members, or $30 for non-members. Registration at the door on the day of the event is $30 for members or $40 for nonmembers (register early and save). Vendor Exhibit Tables are $40 (which includes a ticket for the event) for members and $160 for non-members and must be purchased prior to the day of the event. Register at RogersLowell.com today and join us for some of the best speed networking in town.

Chamber Partners with Rogers Public Schools

T

he latest regional Employer Retention and Expansion surveys show that over 54 percent of area businesses are experiencing workforce recruitment problems. This is affecting businesses of all shapes and sizes across nearly every industry sector in Northwest Arkansas. In response, The RogersLowell Area Chamber of Commerce has committed to helping address this important issue and is pleased to announce a new partnership with the Rogers Public Schools (RPS) | Career & Technical Education (CTE) Programs. These programs are designed to get students trained in career-ready fields and help area businesses find and hire productive employees.

CTE programs provide students both knowledge and performance skills in a wide range of career fields. Middle School students (6-8th grade) participate in foundational courses such as Career Development, Keyboarding, Consumer Science Investigations and Computer Applications; as well as exploratory courses such as Web Page Design, and Broadcasting. CTE programs of study offered on high school campuses provide students opportunities to gain career readiness and technical skills in more specialized areas, including Business, Marketing, Manufacturing, Machine Tools, Automotive Technology, and Family & Consumer Sciences. High School students (11-12th grade) also have

opportunities to attend courses offered through the Secondary Career Centers, including Certified Nurse’s Assistant, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, and Diesel Mechanics. The goal of Career and Technical Education is to prepare students for both college and career. Through participation in CTE programs of study, students gain both knowledge and technical skills that will help prepare them for college and/or a career following high school graduation. The Chamber will be sharing more information with members about the Career & Technical program, including partnerships with local business and industry, concurrent credit programs, and industry certifications in upcoming issues.
