Benton County Chambers Delegation visiting in the Old Senate Chamber

The Bekaert Issue Congressman Steve Womack hosted the group at a meeting of his colleagues held in the House Appropriations Committee room located in the Rayburn Congressional Office Building. At issue was an International Trade Commission (ITC) Anti-dumping and Countervailing Duties Investigation that is currently underway. This meeting of Congressional members and their staffs was the continuation of an earlier meeting in May, which was organized by the Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce for the Arkansas federal delegation. That event was held at the Embassy Suites and was hosted by Bekaert, a Belgian company, which has a major facility located in Rogers. The ITC anti-dumping and countervailing duties investigation involves carbon and alloy steel imports from certain countries and their significant impact on Bekaert and several international companies with facilities in Arkansas. Because of the Commission’s recent rulings, planned expansions worth $86 million are currently on hold at the Bekaert facilities, located in both Rogers and Van Buren. Bekaert customers, located in Texarkana, and competitors, located in Conway and Pine Bluff, are also affected by the recent ITC rulings. In the meeting, Congressmen and their staffers, representing 37 Congressional districts across 18 states containing affected companies, were on hand to hear presentations by representatives from Bekaert and from the U.S.

Tire Manufacturers Association. It is estimated that the industry has an overall economic impact of more than $3.2 billion and represents over 16,000 jobs in Arkansas. A total of $148 billion in economic impact and 737,000 jobs in the United States could be affected by the ITC ruling on this issue. Congressman Womack has taken the lead on this issue and has pledged to gather the support of his colleagues to study this ITC ruling and recommend changes that will lessen its impact in their districts. For more information on the International Trade Commission anti-dumping and countervailing duties investigation, please go to the Chamber’s blog at ImpactPossible.com/Voice. To learn more about the economic impact of this industry on Arkansas and the United States, go to https://www.ustires.org/powering-us-economy. NWA Family Dinner and Night Tour of the Capitol Congressman Womack, Senator Boozman, and members of their staffs joined the group for an informal dinner at Hill Country BBQ. After dinner, Congressman Womack and Senator Boozman hosted a night tour of the U.S. Capitol Building. They escorted the group to the Senate and House floors, and the group took photographs from the “Speaker’s Balcony,” which provides one of the most stunning nighttime views of the Washington Monument and our nation’s Capital City. Many thanks to the Congressman and Senator for taking so

much time to make everyone feel at home in Washington, D.C. I-49 Funding Update Nelson Peacock, with the Northwest Arkansas Council, attended the Benton County Chambers Fly-in and held meetings with Senator Boozman (R-AR.), Senator Roy Blunt (R-MO.), Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO.), Congressman Billy Long (R-MO), and Congressman Steve Womack (R-AR.). They have all agreed to sign on to a bipartisan letter of support for the grant application of the Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Commission (NWRPC) for $32 million to complete the Missouri section of the MissouriArkansas Connector. The Council will be working with the NWRPC to enlist local support for the application as well. The Council is also joining with consultants in Missouri to work with state officials and MODOT to support the project, given that MODOT’s current priorities are area projects in St. Louis and Kansas City. Thank You to Sponsors and Announcement of Next Year’s Trip Thank you to AT&T, Bekaert Corporation, McKee Foods, Tyson Foods, Walmart, and XNA for sponsoring this year’s trip. Mark your calendars for next year’s Washington, D.C. Fly-in, which will take place on September 19 and 20, 2018. If you are interested in attending the 2018 trip, please contact Jon Moran at jon@rogerslowell.com.

Member Engagement Committee | Volunteer Group a Valuable Asset to Chamber

he Member Engagement Committee, formed in 2016, is the one of the newest committees at the Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce. The Member Engagement Committee is a voluntary group working with the Chamber to help visit members, educate them on benefits and encourage participation in Chamber events and programs. Building Member Relationships It is important for the Chamber to maintain strong relationships with members and to keep them involved. The Chamber has more than 2,100 members with approximately 3,800 employee representatives. Volunteers that help the Chamber support its members are crucial to maintaining strong relationships. “I have seen the impact that the Member Engagement Committee has made because of the hundreds of member visits we have done in the past two years,” Chair Heather Slinkard said. “The Committee has learned so much about new members and their businesses or nonprofits which helps make the Chamber a greater resource to the community. If you enjoy volunteering a few hours each month, meeting with a fun committee over lunch, and meeting new people, consider joining the Committee.” Marni Rogers, Member Relations Manager for the Chamber, said that “the Committee is visiting with members to better understand their needs and encourage them to utilize benefits that best suit them and their business.” The Committee has visited a total of 234 member businesses and made a total of 83 phone calls to members since its inception. Chamber Says Thank You The Committee was treated to lunch in August, sponsored by Newk’s Eatery (see photo), to show how grateful the Chamber is for their personal efforts and to say “thank you” for all they do for the community. For more information on how to get involved, contact either Heather Slinkard at (479) 616-0621 or Marni Rogers at (479) 619-3194.

Inaugural Sporting Clays Classic

Hits the Mark T

he Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce’s first-ever Sporting Clays Classic, presented by Cabela’s, was held at Gunsmoke Sporting Clays in Garfield on October 13. More than 100 shooters showed up to “golf with a shotgun” and network with other business professionals on the range. They were provided a continental breakfast, lunch, snacks, ammo, goodie bags and beverages. The event featured a variety of shooting stations, with each station presenting a different challenge for shooters. Some clay pigeons were launched high into the air, some parallel to the

machine, and some even bounced across the ground to test the shooters’ aim. “This was a great event. The opportunity to build fellowship with your colleagues and other businesses in the area while having fun shooting clay pigeons is phenomenal,” Beall Barclay Financial Advisor Dale Brunk said. “We had a blast and we will definitely come back again next year. The venue was great and the setup was challenging yet easy enough for beginners to succeed.” First-place team members received a Custom Engraved Collector Daisy BB Gun and $100 Cabela's gift cards. Second-place and third-place teams received Cabela’s gift cards and members of the last-

place team received a pink Daisy BB Gun. The winner of the morning flight was Rose Antique Mall & Flea Market. Preformed Line Products won the afternoon flight. “Gunsmoke Sporting Clays is a beautiful place with great views, it’s really a perfect setting for this,” First National Bank of NWA’s Jason Hedden said. “The event was really fun the way it was set up, and for non-seasoned shooters it was not impossible to shoot.” Proceeds from the event go toward economic development efforts of the Chamber. Special Thanks to ABC Supply for providing tents, tables and chairs.

Donating door prizes for chamber events is an effective strategy to gain awareness of your business as well as showcase your products & services. If you’re interested in contributing a door prize to any of these events contact Maddie Ward at Maddie@RogersLowell.com.

Register Now for Your 2018 B2B VIP Status | Only $100 Purchase Your B2B VIP Before January 24 VIP status includes a delicious buffet meal and networking at all four B2B events. VIPs get exhibit space at two B2B events of their choice and the opportunity for discounted B2B exhibit space at the other two B2B events. This special B2B VIP offer expires January 24. What is Speed Networking? At B2B Networking events six business representatives are seated at a table. Each

participant at the table has two minutes to promote his/her products and services. Participants are then rotated to two other tables. So you potentially get to speed network with 18 participants during the round robin rotations. That’s a lot of speed networking. Be sure to bring plenty of business cards, brochures, product samples and promotional items to hand out and display at your tables. 2018 B2B Luncheon and Breakfast Schedule This year features two B2B Networking

events scheduled at breakfast (8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.) and two at lunch (11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.) at the NWACC Shewmaker Center for Workforce Technology in Bentonville.
