World Trade Center Arkansas Celebrates 10 Year Anniversary
T
he World Trade Center Arkansas celebrated its 10 Year Anniversary with a reception on September 21. The Center hosted friends, supporters, diplomats, foreign government officials, educators, businesses and trade leaders. The reception featured remarks by Senator John Boozman. “The World Trade Center Arkansas has played a skillful role in connecting Arkansas businesses with international partners,” said Senator Boozman. “Which has in turn meant greater economic benefits for our state. I’m proud to help show the world what Arkansas has to offer and look forward to its continued success.” A Vision Realized The World Trade Center Arkansas was launched as the vision of Senator Boozman in 2007. The Center occupies a 6000-square-foot, first-class office in the top floor of the World Trade Center Building owned by Hunt Ventures in Pinnacle Hills. It was established as a part of the University of Arkansas with support from Hunt Ventures (formerly Pinnacle Group), the City of Rogers, the Walton Family Charitable Support Foundation, U. S. Department of Commerce, the Rogers-Lowell Area Chamber of Commerce and what was then the Arkansas Department of Economic Development (now the Arkansas Economic Development Commission).

...Continued from Page 1 Senator Boozman recognized that international trade was crucial to Arkansas’s economic development. There was a strong need to establish a center focused on trade development to expand Arkansas manufactured, agricultural and service industry exports. During the past 10 years, Senator Boozman traveled with the Center on trade missions to Peru, Brazil and Panama in addition to statewide road trips to promote international trade in many Arkansas communities. Growing Trade. Increasing Exports. Connecting Business. Trading partners include Mexico and Canada - Arkansas’ most important economic partners – Cuba, Japan, Korea, Argentina, Chile, Belarus, South Africa, India, China, Vietnam, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, Malaysia, Panama and more. The Center has welcomed current and former foreign Presidents and former U.S. Presidents, U.S. Secretaries of State and Treasury as well as Ambassadors, Consul Generals, Trade Ministers and foreign Business Leaders. More recently, the Center organized a large trade mission with Arkansas businesses, agricultural producers and Governor Asa Hutchinson to Cuba in 2015, making Hutchinson the first U.S. Governor to visit the island since normalization and the U.S. Embassy was restored. The Center also takes part in Governor Hutchinson’s international trips to aerospace trade shows, including the Farnborough Air Show and the Paris Air Show. Aerospace and Defense is Arkansas’ largest manufactured export by value. The Center has also been promoting the modernization of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), taking a “do-no-harm” posture, according to Hendrix. Arkansas maintains a trade surplus with Mexico who is the state’s largest importer of rice. “We welcome modernization as it will
“The World Trade Center Arkansas was incredibly productive over the past 10 years. We’ve taken Arkansas businesses and agricultural producers on dozens of trade missions to foreign countries. We’ve helped grow the state’s exports and developed strong commercial diplomacy with many of our trading partners.” – Dan Hendrix, President and CEO World Trade Center Arkansas benefit Arkansas companies by making them more competitive in the global marketplace,” said Dan Hendrix, President and CEO. “By testifying at the United States Trade Representative hearings, we effectively communicated the fact that Arkansas can be used as a model of success for trade with Canada and Mexico. This shows that our state is having a tremendous impact in the global economy.” This year alone, the Center has also opened new relationships with three different countries; partnered with two national organizations; undergone nearly 25 trade and diplomatic missions; attended and presented as trade experts
at eight different state, national and international summits; and traveled throughout the state to engage Arkansas businesses on a nearly weekly basis. There are still multiple trade and diplomatic engagements scheduled for later this year. “We are engaged as the international trade arm of the Arkansas Economic Development Commission,” Hendrix said. “We are an active force for growing bilateral trade between Arkansas and the world.” The mission of the World Trade Center Arkansas is to grow trade and increase Arkansas exports by connecting Arkansas businesses to the world through international trade services.

Visit Rogers Launches New Website VIsitRogersArkansas.com
V
isitors searching for travel information about Rogers and the entire Northwest Arkansas region will discover a new website at the end of their Google search. Visit Rogers, the Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) for Rogers, launched its redesigned VisitRogersArkansas.com on August 30 to better serve the needs of leisure travelers, convention attendees, and a growing outdoor recreation market. The site was designed and is hosted by destination marketing specialists Miles Partnerships, who became marketing partners of Visit Rogers at the beginning of 2017. Unique and Authentic Experiences Visit Rogers Executive Director, J. R. Shaw, said the site is designed to inspire those interested in visiting the region to learn more. “The new
PRIZES
VisitRogersArkansas.com encourages visitors to learn more about the unique and authentic experiences Rogers offers. The web design expertise that Miles brings to the table also provides us the most detailed analytics and insights in the industry that allow us to be better destination marketers.” Collaborative Web Development Randi Rogers, the Miles Account Director heading up the project, says the new website was a team effort. “The new Visit Rogers site was a collaborative effort between the team at Visit Rogers and Miles Partnership, to ensure it was the best representation of all there is to do in Rogers. Our main goal was to allow the character of the destination to shine through, while giving tourism businesses enhanced opportunities to have more
meaningful content to share with interested visitors. The process took about eight months and included a photo shoot around town, a series of local interviews and a lot of content creation. It was one of my favorite projects to work on, as the destination itself provided incredible imagery and the people we met along the way were nothing short of incredible. I hope that sentiment comes through when visitors are utilizing the site to plan their trip!” “We are incredibly excited to be working in the state of Arkansas, and specifically with Visit Rogers”, says Jay Salyers, Senior Vice President of Miles Partnerships. "We believe this new website will continue to drive more economic development to the communities we work in across the state.” Go to VisitRogersArkansas.com and check out the new website.

Meet the Chamber's Newest Staff Members Maddie Ward | SPECIAL EVENTS COORDINATOR
(photo by Sophie Epton Photography) Maddie Ward joined the Chamber in August as the Special Events Coordinator. Maddie grew up in Virginia and graduated from the University of Virginia where she studied Poetry Writing, Sculpture, and Spanish Literature. She leveraged those highly marketable degrees into a job as a farm laborer and assistant hard cider brewer at small, family owned business in central Virginia. She moved to the Northwest Arkansas region this summer after spending four years in Austin, Texas where she worked as an event coordinator for a membership-based nonprofit and ate many, many tacos. Maddie looks forward to meeting members at networking events like Coffee Connection, Business After Hours, and our major annual events like the upcoming Fall Job Fair and the RLACC Sporting Clays Classic.
Justin Freeman | MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS SPECIALIST
Justin Freeman began working at the Chamber in June as the Marketing Communications Specialist. A lifelong Arkansan, he graduated from the University of Central Arkansas in 2014 with a degree in Journalism and held positions with the NWA Naturals and Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette before joining the Chamber. Justin enjoys his role covering events and promoting Northwest Arkansas and area businesses through various channels. When he’s not “working” on social media, Justin is an avid sports fan and supports the Arkansas Razorbacks, Dallas Cowboys, and of course his UCA Bears. He invites you to follow the Chamber on Facebook, Twitter at @RLACC and on LinkedIn.
