CHAMBER OFFICES RELOCATE TO HUNT TOWER AS RENOVATION OF DOWNTOWN OFFICES BEGIN
At the Annual Celebration of Business & Community this year we introduced our Vision/Next initiative, an intentional effort to imagine the next 100 years. This ensures we successfully push forward our community’s vision with our mission-work by remaining necessary and relevant to the next generation of leaders stepping up to serve business and community together. One big result is our new, exciting, and modern brand identity. As part of that rebranding, we have relocated staff temporarily to Hunt Tower in Uptown to start the renovation of our Downtown offices.

New Year, New Brand, and Coming in 2024, New Chamber Offices
Last year, we celebrated 100 years of the Chamber bringing community leaders together to grow business, activate leaders, and build community.
This year, we’ve been introducing exciting new changes and inspiring our organization through Vision/Next to be innovative and uncover new ways of doing things. Our new brand is just one example of the changes in progress. We’re also:
• Transitioning to our new branding (logo and tagline) to position the Chamber better to our NextGen leaders.
• Communicating with brevity by raising the bar on what’s worthy of our readers’ time and sharing only what’s vital and worthy of their attention.
• Closing skills gaps between employers and education with new workforce development initiatives that impact long-term economic development.
• Creating Third Space experiences to redefine downtown as a destination.
• Building and sustaining relationships with our legislators and elected officials to accomplish outcomes benefitting business and community.
• Creating tourism economic impact by increasing revenue for our leisure and hospitality industry.
• Developing new programming/events and outreach that defines a pathway for activating NextGen leaders’ engagement with the Chamber and service to the community.
• Being a center of small business offering resources to help start, run, and grow successful businesses.
• Creating new sources of Chamber funding to sustain our Mission 5 work’s impact.
What’s next: Plans were put in motion to upgrade our building this year and the remodeling has begun.
• While our staff will not be in the Downtown office building, that doesn’t mean our work serving business and community together goes away.
• We will be in our temporary offices at Hunt Tower in
Chamber Voice OF BUSINESS MAGAZINE 6
Uptown until the renovation is completed.
• We are continuing to provide our 5-star programming and customer service to our members and community. Our mission-work continues!
• A tremendous thank you to our members that have offered meeting spaces for programs usually held in our conference rooms during the transition.
• Special Note: Our downtown Tourist Information Center will continue to be open from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday during the Chamber’s office building renovation. Onsite directional signage will help visitors easily locate our welcoming staff for assistance.

RLC’s Board Hosts Congressman Womack for a Legislative Briefing
Backgrounder: Congressman Womack is a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee and the Chairman of the Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee.
• He has served as the Congressman for the Third Congressional District since 2010, and prior to that he was the Mayor for the City of Rogers. He also serves on the Defense and Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Subcommittees.
What happened: On Wednesday, August 16, Congressman Steve Womack met with the RLC Board over lunch to discuss his role in D.C. and where things stand regarding appropriations. The Congressman spent the hour discussing the work he’s been charged with on the Appropriations Committee.
1. As it stands, the Congress has quite a few bills that must pass for the Federal Government to remain funded and prevent a government shutdown.
2. Prior to adjourning, there are 11 appropriations bills that need to be passed off the House floor.
3. Out of the 12, nine bills are ready for the floor, one has passed the House, and two have not come out of committee.
4. Congressman Womack also noted there were provisions in the Fiscal Responsibility Act of 2023 that would trigger a 1% cut to all Federal spending if agreements are not made by the end of December.
Why it matters: Congressman Womack is working hard to ensure fiscal responsibility is taking place and that resolutions are found – especially for our men and woman that serve in the Military. The Congressman also stated that he intends to seek re-election and continue serving the hard-working people of the Third Congressional District.
Special thanks: The Chamber and Northwest Arkansas community are thankful for the opportunity to have a candid conversation with a member of our Federal Delegation, and we couldn’t have done that without the support of CEI Engineering Associates, Inc. and SWEPCO.

Spotlight Series Explores Benefits of Third Spaces
RLC’s Spotlight Series is designed to bring the right people together at the right time to spark innovation, inspire ideas and align our community around common goals.
• Each quarter we feature a different theme to spotlight progress and illuminate issues that are opportunities for growing business, activating high-impact leaders, and building a strong and diverse place to visit, live, invest, work and play.
About the event: This is the third program in 2023 and a good one!
• Guest speaker: Join us as Angela Oxford with the Walmart Foundation speaks on her work creating third spaces within Northwest Arkansas.
• Third spaces: This concept divides life into three main places where we spend our time. The first space is home, second is work, and the third space is our community.
• Why it’s important: Whether that third space is biking on trails, enjoying a park, or reading a book in a coffee shop, having a strong and vibrant third space is a key component of community involvement and creating a sense of place for residents and visitors. A strong third space increases quality of life, improves work/life balance, and helps businesses recruit and retain talent.
About the Speaker: Angela Oxford is the Senior Manager on the Community Resilience Team for the Walmart Foundation. She serves the Northwest Arkansas Region. The
strategic focuses for grant making in the NWA Region include Caring and Connected NWA, investing in food systems that provide healthier foods for all and coordinating regional efforts for economic opportunity with a focus on our regional recycling programs. Formerly, Angela served as the founding director of the Center for Community Engagement of the University of Arkansas for 14 years. She is from Northwest Arkansas, and she is mom to Jack and Ella Fei.
Zoom in: Walmart’s approximately 2.1 million associates live and work in local communities around the world. Strong, vibrant towns and cities that provide convenient access to healthier food, stable jobs, and support in times of disasters are essential to building strong local economies.
• Over the years, Walmart has been intentional about leveraging its strengths, associates, and other resources to build resiliency in communities. Through collaboration and philanthropic funding, Walmart is working to strengthen the charitable meals system, provide emergency relief in the face of disaster, and support more than 10,500 communities its stores, club and facilities serve.
• Come listen to Angela as she shares the vision and mission for creating caring and connected communities in Northwest Arkansas and across the globe.
Dig Deeper: Register now for the event on September 20 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Supply Chain Hall of Fame located at 5111 W. J.B. Hunt Dr. in Uptown Rogers. The registration fee is $25 per person.

NWACC Hires Brewer, their first full-time Athletic Director
Brooke Brewer was named Athletic Director of NorthWest Arkansas Community College NWACC).
• The college has never hired an athletic director, making Brewer the very first.
Why it matters: Brewer is making history by being the first athletic director for NWACC. Not only that, but Brewer is also helping increase women representation in collegiate sports.
What they’re saying: Justin White, NWACC’s Vice President of Student Services, said: ‘Experience is obviously wonderful to have. But the skill that she has shown in other sectors, specifically school district work, we think there’s a nice parallel there. And the energy and the passion that come through and the authenticity, I think, is really appealing in starting a new program. She does have great experience in starting new programs and revitalizing other programs.’ (Northwest Arkansas Democrat Gazette)
Background: NWACC currently only offers one sport, Cross-Country for men and women. In March of this year the school introduced a student fee to help support student
activities on campus.
• By introducing an Athletic Director, the school hopes “to encourage student engagement on campus and in the community by providing access to experiences that enhance the affordable college experience.” (Northwest Arkansas Democrat Gazette)

The numbers don’t lie: Heartland Forward, an organization focused on improving economic performance through research-based solutions, recently did an analysis on the Regional Collaboration between Tulsa & NWA. They found that the “Super Region” has generated $98.5 billion in output.

Teslar Software named One of Top 50 Companies to Work for in Fintech.
How it all started: Teslar Software was founded in 2008 in hopes of increasing the efficacy of bank software.
• A year later, they became members of the Rogers Lowell Chamber and for nearly 15 years now have been serving banks nationwide.
Teslar is a SaaS solution that creates highly efficient banks. Teslar operates on four pillars:
• Streamlined Processes
• Empowering Bankers
• Integration
• Scalable
All The Buzz: On June 5, 2023, American Banker named Teslar Software as one of “Best Places to Work in Fintech.” Getting on this list isn’t easy. Companies must go through a two-step process:
• Companies must first complete an employer questionnaire about policies & benefits.
• Next, the employees of the company must complete a questionnaire reflecting on leadership, work environment, and other core values.
What they’re saying: “Teslar Software is a fintech that prioritizes providing a positive, fulfilling work culture,” said American Banker. “Employees are key to its success, and they feel valued and pushed to reach their full potential.’
The big picture: Teslar Software uses their services to empower financial institutions to better serve their customers.

Employers, Reserve Your Booth Now for the October 4 NWA Fall Job Fair
The scoop: The Chamber hosts its 2023 Northwest Arkansas Fall Job Fair on October 4 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Rogers Activity Center.
Largest and longest running job fair in Arkansas: The Chamber’s Job Fairs (Spring and Fall) are the largest and longest running job fairs in Arkansas and are FREE to job seekers.
• Attendees are encouraged to bring their resumes to hand out to potential employers exhibiting at the fair.
Find the right employees for your business: This is a perfect opportunity for employers to search for the right employees to fulfill their hiring needs for the holidays and get a head start for next year.
• Employers should reserve exhibit booth space now (while space is still available) to ensure access to the hundreds of job seekers expected to attend.
Why we do it: RLC’s Job Fairs are an important part of our Economic Development mission-work to strengthen our area’s workforce by connecting job seekers to employers. This work contributes to a better quality of life throughout Northwest Arkansas.
What they’re saying: ”Even with low unemployment numbers in our region, we still have ‘now hiring’ signs posted across our community,” said Chamber SVP of Economic Development, Steve Cox. “This is an important showcase for viable career pathways for job seekers, both careers that require degrees and those that do not.”

Destination: Rogers The Place to be this Fall
What’s happening: Fall means back to school, signature events, college football, and festivals. On two wheels or off the tee, it all starts with a visit to Rogers in September.
Why it’s important: Visitors and locals support events and local businesses, sustaining our exceptional quality of life and creating economic opportunity for all.
Rev it up: Rogers proudly hosts the 2023 Bikes, Blues, & BBQ Motorcycle Rally September 2023 featuring activities and events in Rogers and throughout Northwest Arkansas.
• Enjoy live music downtown at the Butterfield Stage and at the Rally Off Exit 86; bike demos and vendors at Railyard Park, Pig Trail Harley Davidson, and the Rogers Convention Center; shopping, restaurants, bars; and great barbecue at the Rotary Club Frisco Inferno (the official BBQ Competition of Bikes Blues & BBQ).
Rally with a cause: BBBQ is the rally with a purpose that benefits women, children, and the underserved members of the Northwest Arkansas community. Since the first Bikes, Blues, and BBQ they have donated more than $3 million to local charities.
Tee it up: The region’s premier event returns to Rogers the last week of September for a weeklong celebration of the unique spirit found only in Northwest Arkansas.
• #NWAChampionship Week offers a wide variety of events and activities at affordable prices for the whole community.
Where NWA Shines:
• Large events like the NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G are an honor to host in the very competitive world of professional sports, and Rogers does not take that for granted. These events create immediate economic impact for our community and elevate our profile as a world class destination.
• The tournament increases awareness of Rogers and the region, and positions our destination in a positive, progressive light, possibly shaking some outdated perceptions about Arkansas.
• Returning in 2023, the BITE Experience @ the LPGA brings the BITE NW Arkansas food festival to the #NWA Championship. The culinary experience will be held Friday, September 29Sunday, October 1. The festival will be hosted in a centralized location at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers, featuring golf viewing as well as 30 local restaurants and brand activations.
Something for everyone: The tournament settles into one busy fall season in Rogers and the region, including the NWA Community Showcase in Downtown Rogers, the Rogers Cycling Festival, Razorback football, Format Festival in Bentonville, Bikes, Blues & BBQ and Fall Craft Fairs.

Leadership Benton County now accepting applications
RLC’s Leadership Benton County (LBC) provides leadership training specific to regional issues facing our county and serves as the Chamber’s training ground for future leaders in Benton County. The program is run in partnership with the Greater Bentonville Area Chamber of Commerce.
Why it’s important: Goals of the 11-session program include:
• Identifying and motivating individuals with leadership potential.
• Acquainting participants with community needs, challenges and opportunities to activate their leadership skills and offering a forum for dealing with community issues.
• Challenging future leaders to become involved with local issues and the process of decision-making.
What’s happening: On Tuesday, September 26th the current LBC class will graduate and move to alumni of the program. It is our goal that after they graduate they will have found something in the community they are passionate about and start to sever and give back to Benton County and NWA as a whole.
What’s next: if you are interested in participating in 2024 or know somebody who may be interested in the program, we are currently taking applications. Click here for more information.
