Kia ora Koutou, This week we have been focused on ensuring students are tracking towards the outcomes they need to have a successful year academically. We are issuing tracking reports next week that give an indication of how students are going. These are a snapshot of where they currently sit. If you have any questions just give us a call. Te Arawa Secondary schools Kapahaka regionals are this Tuesday 2 June. Our Kapa Haka team have been putting in extra hours for a long time now, giving up their weekends and practicing hard. Last night at JPC, our students attended Epro8, which is a Science and Engineering Interschool Competition. We won 1st Place which is a fantastic result. SPORT ___________________________________________________________________________ BOYS HOCKEY 1st XI What a night we had with many nail biting moments. The boys came up against WHHS and started the game well. Slowly the opposition started finding their feet and put us on more defensive play, with brilliant saves by Matthew Gray. We had a hat trick of goals scored by Jayden Fraser (POD), but the opposition kept matching us and then in the last 4 mins they inched ahead. The boys showed their grit and determination by holding their composure which allowed for a brilliant equalising goal by Tama Te Whau. Final Score 4-4 2nd XI The 2nd XI Boys had their first home game of the year against Rotorua Boys High 3rd XI. Our boys started the match well and controlled possession and territory well in the first quarter, getting into the Boys High circle, but couldn’t manage to get on the scoresheet. Following a good start, we let Boy’s High into the game with goals in the 2nd and 3rd Quarter giving them a 2-0 lead with only the 4th Quarter to plays. The boys then showed what they are capable of with 2 goals to Keanen Dyson bringing the scores level. Some final flurries in the dying minutes however weren’t quite enough to get the victory. Player of the Day was Keanen Dyson, who worked hard and showed good positional play in the circle to score both of our goals.
___________________________________________________________________________ GIRLS 2ND XI HOCKEY TEAM On Tuesday 25 May our Hockey 2nd XI team had their third win of the season with a dynamic game vs Te Koutu. The girls were very clever and resilient when the goalie gear and coach were late to arrive, so they organised themselves and played the first three quarters without a goalie. They are playing like a great team and often making goals from being in the right position (on post!). Score was 3-0. Player of the game was Nakoda Davidson. The girls came away with wins in the first two games of the season as well. 4

NEWS FROM OUR TEACHERS ___________________________________________________________________________ OUR AMAZING PINK RIBBON BREAKFAST We are pretty overwhelmed with the community support for our Pink Ribbon Morning Tea. We had a wonderful event with staff and Year 13 students gathering in the cooking room to enjoy some kai. The whole school got behind this event with a Mufti Day and the array of pink outfits was enjoyed by all. From a small goal of $500 we raised $3400. A cause close to our hearts that we have made a difference for. Well done and thank you to everyone for your involvement.
