Kia ora Koutou,
This week I have had the pleasure of attending the Secondary Schools Principal’s Conference in Queenstown. Thank you to Deputy Principal Mrs Pani McLean for stepping in as Acting Principal. The school was in very safe hands.
It was great to see our students heading off to Wellington for the History & Economics Trip recently. It was a unique opportunity for our students to experience firsthand our parliament at work in the Beehive. They also had a fantastic day visiting Government House and the exhibitions at Te Papa and many more! Thank you to our teachers for organizing this wonderful and highly beneficial trip. Also, a huge thank you to Pub Charity Ltd for their generous funding which enabled our students to travel to Wellington. (further details on page 4).
Our House Group’s competitive challenges were a huge success. Close and exciting games of football, and basketball, to name but a few. Well done to all our students. As always, a big thank you to our Heads of House for putting in the hard work in organizing these events.
I would like to ask for your help. Firstly, can I ask caregivers to remind students that intervals and lunchtimes are there for them to use the toilets if needed. Taking time out of teaching and learning disrupts not only the student leaving, but also others in the room. When we reach NCEA our students have to focus and sit for 3 hours of assessment. It’s important that our students can learn to sit for one hour in classes without the need to head out of the room. I would also like to say that I am aware some students have specific needs to be out of class at a given time, and this focus on staying in class and minimising disruption will not impinge on their ability to have their needs met. Thank you for your continuing support.
We have an extra day to look forward to this weekend. Have a great Monday off and enjoy the break.
Ngā mihi,
Jon Ward, Principal/Tumaki
