Dear Parents/Caregivers __________________________________________________________________________ JUNIOR PRIZEGIVING Today, Friday 7 December, we held our Junior Prizegiving in the DC Price Auditorium. The day was highly successful and enjoyable – always a proud occasion for us to celebrate the academic successes of our Junior students. A special thank you to all staff who organized this event and worked so diligently to make it a success. I am delighted and proud to announce and congratulate our 2018 Top Scholars, Yr 9 Jacob Heighway and Yr 10 Isidora Gonzalez Diaz and all of our prize winners. A list of all recipients are on pages 4 – 15. A great year – very
well done to all our students! Monday and Tuesday are course confirmation days. Students that are required to attend have been contacted by their Deans already. For the rest of our studnets have a safe break! __________________________________________________________________________ BRAVE THINKERS Congratulations to our Year 13 student, Kayla Sargison, successfully completed “The Brave Thinkers” programme held in Palmerston North 8-13 July this year. As a consequence of successfully completing the programme Massey University is offering her a study award. Well done Kayla – a great achievement.
__________________________________________________________________________ PEER SUPPORT Thank you to the Year 12s who completed Peer Support training this week. You will all make fantastic mentors for the new Year 9s next year. Well done and huge thanks from Mrs Hamilton and Mrs Short
As I write this article reflecting on the past year, I am genuinely proud of the efforts and accomplishments of our students. These achievements have been made possible with the support of parents / caregivers and through the dedication of our staff who work tirelessly to provide opportunities for all our young people to grow and learn. As always, your partnership as families, has been invaluable and I am grateful for your continued commitment and support. To all our students – school should prepare you to be resilient and equip you with the grit and determination to succeed and overcome the inevitable knock-backs along the way. It’s easy to feel defeated at times, but view these moments as a challenge. Remember the unhappy people have never failed at anything! A long holiday awaits – don’t waste it. Get out there and experience something new for yourself. Spend quality time with your family, and do something worthwhile. Youth is too precious a thing to waste. Carpe Diem! To our Year 13 students who are embarking on their journeys away from RLHS - no matter whether you get the exam results you were expecting, you are at the start of a journey that is as yet undefined. Grab that precious opportunity with both hands and be bold. Get the little things right; be on time, treat others kindly and work hard. I wish you all success and happiness and, I say this every year, remember once a RLHS student always a RLHS student! Finally, as always, I would like to thank all our hardworking and dedicated staff without whom RLHS would not be as successful as it is.
Wishing you all happy, safe and enjoyable holidays. Thank you.
Yours sincerely
Principal
