PROJECT STATEMENT:

SITE LOCATION:

The Purpose of this project is to design a temporary housing and skill classes for the formerly incarcerated men to re-enter society. A goal was to create spaces open to the public to allow interactions between the formerly incarcerated and their neighbors.

The site for the facility is located in Charlotte, North Carolina in an old mill factory, Louise Cotton Mill. The site is one of only three intact cotton mills that survive in the city from the late ninetieth century.

PROJECT BRIEF: Root is a primary care clinic in Chicago, Illinois. The clinic is on the 14th floor of the building, which is located near 875 North Michigan Avenue (formerly known as the John Hancock Center). The primary care clinic focuses on preventative care creates a calm and comfortable environment for every visitor.

Chicago is known as the ”Windy City”, but also holds the nickname as the ”City of Garden”. Root pays respect to Chicago’s plentiful parks, while mixing both city and nature together. Providing biophilia will reduce patients overall stress of everyday city life and visits to the clinic. An inviting atmosphere with spa-like feel and amenities seen in hospitality.
