School Budget Cuts By Shansharay Tucker The school budget cuts were about to remove the Balboa Park system including our Sixth Grade Camp trip. Then the new and upcoming students next year won’t be able to have all the fun activities we have now. The students will miss out on a lot of activities, they will layoff teachers. And we don’t want that to happen. So I feel the good thing is now over.

B-5 Speaks Out About Budget Cuts by Shansharay Tucker Mrs. William’s Class B-5 wrote letters to the school board: 5th Grade student, Destiny Frost spoke upon her little sister. Her sister is in the third grade and is looking forward to going to the Friendship garden and feels that the budget cuts will end all good field trips. 5th grade student, Tony Lewis spoke regarding the fact that he doesn’t want the budget to be cut down. 5th grade students, Jocelyn Palefox stated that she wants her sister to be able to go on field trips also. 5th grader, Casey Jones spoke upon his bother and how he also wants his brother to be able to attend those field trips too. 5th grader, Marcos wishes to keep all the programs open for other children to learn multiple things. The main thing is the I got from these letters is that kids want their brothers are sisters to go on these fun field trips and feel the same way, but with more meaning.

(: Lunchtime with the Tigers:)

I’m hungry, feed me!

Lunch Time! By Nayeli Nova

Monday Taco pocket, pizza, & turkey hot dogs Tuesday Bean cheese burrito, mini turkey sub, & chicken Patty Wednesday Chicken & cheese Burrito, fish sticks, & macaroni & cheese Thursday - Chicken nuggets, Grilled cheese sandwich, spaghetti & meatballs Friday Pizza bagel, cheese burger, & beef teriyaki w/t rice & salad bar

Johnson lunches may not be the best, but they are provided and that’s what counts. Many students bring their own lunches, but why??? They say that the food is fake and is nasty. That may be true, but what if they’re parents got fired they wouldn’t be able to bring a lunch now would they? The typical lunch menu for the week would be on the right as you can see. But are they healthy hmm, I wonder? That is a good question. One of my younger pupils says yes, yes they are. I think so to. Finally they are FREE!

What we think is…. By Nayeli Nova The students at this school say stuff. For example most of my pupils say things like they are disgusting & nasty. My personal opinion is they are neutral. Who know why? Some say they are ok like some of the adults. But they get different lunches but they have to pay for them. So, still their lunches are better. Chicken quesadilla, soup, sandwiches. This is what the teachers would have for lunch. We think we should get some of the old foods we used to get. For example: smiley faces French fries, sloppy Joes, turkey with gravy and mashed potatoes. We want all the good stuff back the really good stuff. Even the kindergarteners even have better lunches than us! It’s time for a change. Hopefully real soon!

Quote from Starresha Young: Here at Johnson STEM we expect the best from our students. Good Behavior, Be Respectful, and Responsible.

More Recess!! By Nayeli Nova

Children having a good time exercising outside. Running.

For some math is their favorite subject. Others it’s science. But the majority says it’s RECESS. Recess is a time to exercise and to have some fresh air. Research says that the number of adult obese females is 32 million. Adult obese male is 26 million. Can you believe that! We only get 30 minutes of exercise every day!! To me that’s not enough. We should have an hour in total. We need to make sure that the obesity problem doesn’t happen at our school. People, the numbers are rising. We need to think fast!!

What We The Student Body Think. By Nayeli Nova

We as a student body think we need more recess after a hard morning of learning. Also after coming in from recess we do MORE work then we go to lunch to run some energy off we desperately. We only get 30 minuets in a total we should have at least 1 hour. Every Single day more and more people cross the line of OBESITY and they also become OVERWEIGHT!! We are the generation of the future! If we don’t do something now what will happen when we grow up? Even some of my teachers agree. ☺ Did you know that some school celebrates NATIONAL RECESS WEEK! I do believe it’s when kids have EXTRA RECESS. I think that would be something good to experience.

Fun Facts By Nayeli Nova

We should be able to ride our bikes to school it’s a fun and healthy way to get some exercise! It also helps save gas! It’s good for the environment. Also we should have P.E. more often. We only get it once a week!. P.E. is a fun place to be. We should have more of it. Also we should have the Olympics more than once a year. I was sore for a week but it was fun. Also very easy. By just that simple action we could reduce obesity. Think fast. More recess! It’s now or never.

Basketball How famous is basketball?

Basketball is a very famous sport. Basketball players make over 5 million dollars. Lots of kids look up to basketball players like Kobe Bryant or Lebron JAMES. Lots of kids would like to be a basketball player.

Basketball History Basketball was invented in December 1891 by the Canadian dergyman. Back then in the 1800s they didn’t have hoops; they used wooden peach baskets affixed to walls. The national basketball league was formed in 1898 to protect them from exploitation and a less rough game. In 1949 two subsequent professional leagues, formed in 1937 in America.
