On behalf of the UWF community and the Office of Family Programs, we are pleased that you are a part of the Argo Family. UWF is a unique and diverse community, which prides itself on providing beneficial programs and resources while establishing strong relationships not just with students, but also with parents and family members. As your student adjusts to university life, we know that as parents and family members you too will experience new challenges and milestones with your student. To this end we are committed to your family experiencing a smooth transition from year to year within the University of West Florida by ensuring the following: •
Incoming freshman students, transfer students and their families are exposed to numerous resources and services available to them prior to the beginning of classes. Such events and resources include: Explore UWF, New Student and Family Orientation, and Argo Arrival events.

On-campus students will catch the spirit of the Argo Community during Freshman Move-in when current UWF students and staff readily and excitedly help students move into their new residence halls.

In addition, students living off campus — commuter students — will also have the chance to come together and enjoy food, fun and games just before freshman Convocation.

Parents and family members are kept informed through open channels of communication with the university such as: the Family University of West Florida

The Argo Family Connection: E-Family Newsletter is a monthly electronic newsletter that is sent out to all UWF parents and family members that activate their membership into the dues-free Family Association. This newsletter will keep families informed about what is happening on campus, highlight university departments and parent related transitional resources. The Office of Family Programs will also send emails throughout the year with important university news such as closings due to inclement weather; safety alerts or notices, updates and or upcoming events related to parents and families.
Connecting you to the rest of the Argo Family The UWF Parent and Family Association is an organization that provides information and support to family members of current UWF students. The Association offers families a special connection with one another and encourages participation in the UWF community. Membership is free and includes numerous opportunities for UWF parents and family members to get involved. •
As a member of the Argo Family, you will receive a personal invitation to join in on our traditional event, Family Weekend.

UWF parent and family members also get an opportunity to volunteer and assist with this event, in addition to working with the UWF Parent and Family Advisory Council. •

The inaugural University of West Florida Parent and Family Advisory Council of 2014–2016 was established on October 18, 2014 during the annual fall Family Weekend. The UWF PFAC is a voluntary group of parents of UWF students that advocate for the needs of UWF parents, families and students. Advisory Council Members assist with planning, implementing, advising, and supporting parent and family related programs initiated by the UWF Office of Family Programs. There are currently 11 Members representing you across the country. They want to engage you, and advocate for your interests through the Office of Family Programs. If you are interested in learning more about the UWF Parent and Family Advisory Council please contact the Office of Family Programs at family@uwf.edu. New Member Applications for 2015–2017 PFAC will open in the fall semester.

Student Support Services Academic Advising uwf.edu/advising The First Year Advising Center assists new freshman and first time in college students in selecting majors and courses that satisfy the University of West Florida’s General Studies curriculum as well as their major requirements. As an entering freshman, students will see an academic advisor during orientation who will assist them in registering for their first semester courses. After orientation, students will be assigned an academic advisor with whom they will meet every semester until they transition to one of the Colleges at UWF to complete their coursework in their selected major.

Overall, 71% of UWF students receive some type of financial aid. 77% of our undergraduate students receive aid. The Financial Aid Office has processed over $99 million in financial aid during the last academic year.

The Financial Aid Office works with students to award federal, state, and institutional funds to help pay for college expenses. All students are encouraged to apply annually for financial aid. Detailed information and the application process are available on the UWF Financial Aid website. Applying early each year is encouraged. The Financial Aid Office works very closely with Financial Services that is comprised of Student Accounts and the Cashier’s Office. It is important to know that the Financial Aid Office is the office that awards financial aid. Student Accounts is the office that disburses aid to students and is the office students should direct questions to regarding fee payment, disbursement, their Higher One account, refunds, and Florida Prepaid.

All students are encouraged to apply annually for financial aid. Detailed information and the application process are available on the UWF Financial Aid website. 14
Cashier’s Office Tuition and related fees, housing and mandatory meal plans may be paid online using your checking or savings account through MyUWF. An echeck payment results in an electronic debit of your bank account. There is no additional fee assessed by the University for an echeck payment. If your payment is returned as unpaid by your bank for any reason, your student account will be assessed a returned item fee. Credit cards and debit cards may also be used to make payments online through MyUWF. The University works with an external vendor, CashNet, to process payments. The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In order to provide the convenience of an online payment portal, a convenience fee of 2.75% will be charged. This fee will be added to the total payment and is nonrefundable. The convenience fee of 2.75% will be displayed prior to completion of the transaction. The completion of the transaction acknowledges acceptance of these payment terms. A parent portal will be available for online payments through CashNet. Student authorization is required. Payments by cash, check, money order or traveler’s checks only may be made in person at the Cashier’s office for tuition and fees, housing, and mandatory meal plans. UWF does not mail statements. Account Balance information and due dates are available on the student’s MyUWF account. A $100 non-refundable late fee will be assessed for late payments. Voluntary meal plans and parking permits will be available for purchase through MyUWF. Please refer to Parking Services and the Nautilus Card office for more information.

Florida Prepaid is automatically billed unless your student notifies the Cashier’s Office in writing. Florida Prepaid plans do not pay all mandatory fees. The amount paid depends on the type of plan purchased.
Student Account Information Bookstore deferments up to $800 are available for students with excess financial aid. Eligible students will be notified by email. The Tuition Loan Payment Plan and Short Term Loans are available through your student’s MyUWF. All degree seeking students receive an inactive Higher One card upon registration. Refunds, including financial aid refunds, are sent to Higher One. Students log in to uwfdebitcard.com and choose to have their funds sent via ACH to an existing bank account or activate the Higher One Debit Master Card. More information can be found at uwfdebitcard.com.
Nautilus Card uwf.edu/idcard
to make purchases at the UWF Bookstore, Dining Services, the Commons Info Desk, Postal Services, Printing Kiosks, the Health & Wellness Center and various vending machines, laundry facilities and copy machines. Students may also use the card to pay fees or fines at the Cashier’s Office. Deposits may be made at the Cashier’s Office, via the student’s MyUWF account or at one of the automatic deposit machines (ADMs) conveniently located around campus. Excess financial aid funds may be placed on the Nautilus Card after all tuition and fees have been paid. Account information may be viewed online via the student’s MyUWF account. •
Argo Bucks – Flexible dollars that come with a meal or block plan. Argo Bucks are accepted like cash in all dining locations and expire at the end of each semester. If your student’s Argo Bucks run low, you may add additional dollars to their Nautilus Card declining balance account.

UWF ID – A unique identification number assigned by the University to every student. The 9 larger digits on the front of your student’s Nautilus Card.
The Nautilus Card is your student’s official identification card and serves as a library card, access card, meal plan card and a declining balance card. Funds may be deposited to the Nautilus Card and used

Athletics GoArgos.com UWF Intercollegiate Athletics is a member of the Gulf South Conference and NCAA Division II. The Argonauts are winners of 7 national championships, 75 GSC championships, 11 GSC Women’s AllSports Trophies, 5 GSC Men’s All-Sports Trophies and 6 GSC Commissioner’s Trophies. UWF student-athletes compete in 14 collegiate sports. The men’s teams compete in baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer and tennis; while the women’s teams compete in basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, swimming and diving, tennis and volleyball.

Dean of Students uwf.edu/deanofstudents The Dean of Students Office supports both the academic mission of the University of West Florida and the Division of Student Affairs by providing programs, services, resources, and advocacy for the needs and interests of all UWF students. The professional and support staff of the DSO provide educational opportunities for students to develop appropriate community behaviors and personal values while providing support to students and families with personal or University concerns. The staff will also assist students and families in navigating the administrative process of the University.

Department of Student Transition Programs uwf.edu/transitionprograms The Department of Student Transition Programs is home to New Student and Family Orientation, Argo Camp (extended orientation), Argo Link Commuter (freshman commuter engagement program) and the Office of Family Programs. The department strives to ease the transition for students and their families in, through and out of UWF. •
Argo Camp is a supplementary, but optional extended orientation program geared towards our incoming freshman class. We offer a three-day, two-night experience where students will be given the opportunity to establish lifelong friendships and build social networks with their peers, currentlyenrolled UWF students, and professional faculty and staff.

New Student and Family Orientation is an opportunity for incoming students and their families to learn more about UWF. Students will have the chance to meet UWF faculty and staff as well as other UWF student leaders. During NSFO, students will have the chance to meet with their Academic Advisor, register for classes, and take care of any business they may need to wrap up related to their enrollment. Orientation is a vital part to a student’s transition into campus life.

Office of Case Management Services uwf.edu/offices/dean-of-students/casemanagement-services Case Management Services is designed to respond to student issues and concerns both inside the classroom and beyond. Each student’s case differs and can range from a simple email to instructors to inform them of a student’s illness to interventions that are far more severe. The goal of case management is to help retain the student by providing relevant guidance on various issues.

To respond to the changing role of case management in higher education, the University of West Florida has put in place a means to effectively address concerns and a process by which problems can be solved or addressed. The case management director serves as a centralized point of response and contact for students and the campus community. •

Argo Pantry – The purpose of the Argo Pantry is to provide healthy food assistance to currently enrolled UWF students who are in need of emergency assistance. Our mission is to establish and sustain a campus food pantry that will fulfill the basic requirements of students who are in need. Personal care items are also available. Ombudsperson – The role of the ombudsperson is to serve as a resource and designated neutral party for those who may have a college-related concern or grievance. The ombudsperson
does not impose solutions, but does identify options and strategies for resolution.

Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities uwf.edu/osrr OSRR has the primary functions of administration of the Student Code of Conduct and Academic Misconduct. When a student is alleged to have violated the Student Code of Conduct and is found responsible for having done so, penalties are imposed. Penalties can range from a warning to probation (academic or disciplinary) all the way to suspension from the University.

The University Commons & Student Involvement Department, or what their staff likes to refer to as the “University Living Room,” is a relaxed atmosphere with a constant level of activity. Their facilities, programs, and events are designed to encourage students to become engaged in campus life at UWF. The Commons Service Desk is a one-stop location for tickets to campus events, access to special offers for UWF students, games and other equipment rentals perfect for that break between classes. The Commons features pool tables, table tennis, a gaming area, public-use piano, and more! It is the perfect place for students to meet other students when they first come to campus!

Fraternity & Sorority Life uwf.edu/fsl Membership in a fraternity or sorority is one of the most significant experiences for a college student. Being a member of a fraternal organization at UWF means being part of an involved, motivated, passionate and caring community. It means brotherhood or sisterhood, scholarship, philanthropy and service, leadership and so much more. FSL is comprised of 18 great fraternities and sororities.

Career Services uwf.edu/career Career Services is focused on providing students with the tools they need to obtain career-related knowledge and experience while in school. Career advisors assist students with major/career exploration, resume and cover letter writing, interviewing skills, job shadowing, internships, job search strategies and much more. Experiential learning programs, a unit within Career Services, helps connect students with service and other experiential learning opportunities in the community. Jason Quest, the Career Services online database, is an excellent resource for students as it houses part-time jobs, full-time jobs, volunteer opportunities, career events and more which can be accessed through the student’s MyUWF account.
Counseling and Psychological Services uwf.edu/counselingservices Counseling & Psychological Services offers counseling and therapy to help students address ways in which they can more effectively manage, cope and grow with the stress associated with school and life. The primary goal of counseling is to help students develop the personal awareness and skills necessary to overcome problems and to develop in ways that will allow them to take advantage of the educational University of West Florida
opportunities at the university. CAPS offers: individual therapy, couples therapy, group therapy, biofeedback, and psychoeducational workshops. The department of Psychiatric Services is also housed within the CAPS office.
Health Center uwf.edu/healthcenter UWF Student Health Services provides basic primary care to all currently enrolled students on an appointment-only basis. The student health fee covers the cost of the visit while laboratory testing, vaccines, and certain procedures are offered at low negotiated rates. The Primary Care Clinic is staffed by a physician, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, a friendly support staff and a medical director.

Housing and Residence Life uwf.edu/housing The Department of Housing and Residence Life provides safe, welcoming and affordable on campus living for students. Returning students serve as Resident Assistants to build community and assist residents in creating a positive and academically supportive environment. Housing options for first-time students include: the Southside Communities, Argo, Martin, Pace and Heritage Hall. Southside is home to several themed communities, such as: Global Living, ROTC, Outdoor Experience, Argos Give Back, Argie Spirit, and Fine and Performing Arts. Martin Hall houses first-year students in the Delphi first-year experience living-learning community. Students who are a part of the Honors Program reside in Pace Hall.

Housing is available to students during their entire college career at UWF. After the first year, students can take advantage of living in Heritage Hall, Presidents Hall and the University Village Apartments. Presidents Hall is home to Oracle, our second-year experience living-learning community. Returning residents will have priority to choose where they want to live in the years following. Living on campus is a great addition to your student’s college experience.
Recreation and Sports Services uwf.edu/recreation Recreation and Sports Services offers programming in Aquatics, Facility Operations, Fitness/Wellness, Intramural Sports, Outdoor Adventures, and Sport Clubs. They manage the area known as University Park. Recreation also oversees a 108,000 square foot Health, Leisure and Sports Facility that includes a 10,000 square-foot multilevel Fitness Center, an
indoor track, basketball, volleyball and badminton courts, group fitness studios, and a 36-foot high climbing wall. Services offered include massage therapy, personal training, fitness assessments, group fitness classes, open recreation and a variety of informational sessions throughout the year. The Aquatic Center houses an Olympic-sized heated pool, whirlpool, and dry sauna. Outdoor facilities include tennis courts, an 18-hole disc golf course, a sand volleyball court and several basketball and racquetball courts. Outdoor Adventures coordinates various canoeing, camping, and climbing road trips throughout the semester. Intramural Sports offers students the chance to participate in an assortment of competitive sports from flag football to soccer.
Nature Preserve uwf.edu/recreation/Facilities/ TrailMaps.cfm UWF’s main campus is located on 1600 acres of nature preserve which is home to a variety of diverse and challenging trails often enjoyed by running, walking, hiking, cycling, geo-cache and equestrian enthusiasts. A half-mile boardwalk, known as the Edward Ball Nature Preserve Trail, is also located on the main campus and is home to mammals, birds, fish and reptiles, including an occasional American alligator.

Free academic support services and tutorial assistance in all subject areas offered at UWF. ACE is located in building 52, room 151.
Flexible dollars that come with each meal plan. They expire at the end of each semester and are accepted like cash in all dining locations. If your student's Argo Bucks run low, you may add additional dollars to their Nautilus Card "Food Account."

Argo Alert A messaging system the University of West Florida utilizes to inform faculty, staff and students when a situation of imminent danger arises and requires a call for action. Argo Alerts can be received via text message or e-mail. When an Argo Alert is sent, please take immediate action in obtaining safety and shelter.
Argo Camp An optional three-day, two-night retreat for incoming freshmen, which takes place the week before classes begin in August. Argo Camp provides guidance and helps campers navigate the social and emotional changes that will occur in their transition to UWF.
Argo Galley Argo Arrival An annual tradition that serves as the official kick-off of the academic school year. Argo Arrival fosters school spirit for both new and returning students with week-long events, activities, fun and food!

Argo Link-Commuter
CAB
A program for commuter freshmen, that is designed to encourage involvement on campus. First-time in college commuter students will be invited to attend Argo Link events, as well as, oncampus events. Not only will commuter students receive give-away prizes for their participation and attendance, but they will have the opportunity to connect with faculty, staff and other commuter students involved on campus.
The Campus Activity Board is a student-run organization dedicated to programming the best in entertainment for students, faculty and staff.
Argo PALs Peer Assistant Leaders work with the Delphi Living-Learning Community in Martin Hall and help first-year students adjust academically to UWF.
Argo Pulse The lifeline for involvement at UWF. This website, located at argopulse.uwf.edu, provides access to students to keep updated on the most current information on student involvement and student organizations.
Argonaut (or Argo) Inspired by Greek mythology, the legendary Jason and the Argonauts embarked on a long, perilous voyage to capture and bring home a golden fleece. This voyage symbolizes the journey of excellence embarked upon by each and every one of our students — to capture and bring home their college education.
Auditorium A general purpose facility located in the University Commons that is suitable for a variety of activities including comedians and other performances, luncheons, banquets, exhibits and receptions.

Cannon Greens We call the big, beautiful lawn areas at the center of campus "The Cannon Greens." Look for campus events to be held here throughout the year, including Exam Jam (before "finals week") where students can enjoy food and music. Look for outdoor movies throughout the year as well.
Central Time Zone Well, we figure you already knew there was such a thing, but we are sure you didn't know we were in it.
College Survival Skills College Survival Skills is a three credit hour course offered for first-time in college students to give them insight into different programs and opportunities UWF has to offer and to help ease their transition into University life.
Colonial Archaeological Trail A trail that traces key elements of Pensacola history. You'll find the starting marker in the Plaza Ferdinand VII in Historic Pensacola Village.
CFPA The Center for Fine and Performing Arts is home to the Art, Music and Theatre Departments.

Delphi The first-year experience living-learning community located in Martin Hall is designed to create a strong link between students’ lives in the residence hall and their learning experiences in the classroom.
Drop/Add Week The first week of the semester, during which students can drop and add classes without penalty.
Building 79, ITS Computer Lab Formerly known as the SAIL Lab, the Building 79, ITS Computer Lab is located in Building 79/171 and is a general purpose computer lab for students that houses approximately 100 computers as well as printing and copying capabilities.
Japan House A symbol of the University’s commitment to international education and friendship among people from all over the world. Established in 2004, the Japan House is located at the main entrance to campus and is the premier center for Japanese culture and education in the Northwest Florida region.
eLearning UWF’s online courses are made available through eLearning. eLearning is widely used by UWF instructors to hold fully online courses and to supplement traditional courses with online content.
MathStat Lab Free tutorial assistance in several mathematics and statistics courses provided by the Department of Mathematics and Statistics and located in building 4, room 302.
Exam Jam Hosted by the Campus Activity Board and held before "finals week," this event offers free food, activities and the change to relax.

A public use space in the University Commons that is available for special events, activities or everyday use.
