WAIHI EAST SCHOOL SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 10/2015

29th April 2015

Kia ora, It is hard to believe May is just around the corner. Where are the days going? Our classes are very settled and it is pleasing to note the low numbers in each room. This makes a significant difference to our learners as teachers are able to spend significant time with individuals and groups. As always, we love having your participation in all school activities. Come on down and check out what your tamariki are up to. A huge thank you to Robin Douglas and the team who represented our School at the ANZAC parade on Saturday. We are very proud of your involvement in this special day of reflection. Thank you to our girls for producing a gorgeous wreath. This was a talking point around the community. Winter sports are all ‘a go’. Students are appreciating the time and effort you are putting into their teams. Thanks for the coaching, supportive comments, transport and enthusiasm. We are all set for a positive season. Nik Laing is getting organized to run reading and maths workshops this term. These are fun and very informative. You don’t need to be a great reader or mathematician to attend – Nik presents tips and tricks to support you in the home setting. How are you finding the school calendar on our website? Not only can you find out about school happenings but also professional learning and development at staff meetings. Next week we are focusing on dyslexia and ways we can support learners in the classroom. Check out our dates and activities! We are all looking forward to our Onesie mufti day this Friday. Our thanks to Greta for this idea. Please dig deep into your wallets– all money raised will go to the Waihi RSA. Nga mihi nui, Emily (ehargreaves@east.school.nz)

KIDS’ ZONE Poppy poppy, what do you tell. Poppy poppy, how did soldiers destroy you. Poppy poppy, where are you? All gone in war. So sad to tell. Poppy poppy, freedom came, but we still remember the pain. Poppy poppy, anything else? No more war for us. By Izzie C, Rm 3, 7yrs Poppies guide the way as the soldiers march, day by day. Many soldiers fall, we will remember them all. Poppies poppies tell us where the soldiers fought and fell. We blow blow blow. We all shoot from the muddy trenches as we grow. ANZAC’s fought with honours and glory. We will always remember and tell their story. ANZAC’s are lest forgotten. By Paul W, Rm 3, 9yrs

The dawn rose up as the poppies bloomed. The cool breeze blew through their delicate storks. The poppies lead the way and see the soldiers day after day. The birds fly high into the dawning sky. Now the guns have long gone poppies are growing in Flanders field. I felt the soldiers light touch when I think about poppies. By Paige C, Rm 3, 8yrs Poppies poppies tell tell tell. Tell us where the soldiers fought in Flanders fields. Poppies poppies tell us from your heart. Poppies tell us where they are in Flanders fields. Please tell us where they are. We will remember them in Flanders fields. Poppies grow grow grow grow bright and strong in the silent sound. We will remember them with you around. By Nicky T, Rm 3, 8yrs
